James Gunn confirms new Wonder Woman film is in the works

A new Wonder Woman movie is in the works.
James Gunn, the CEO of DC Studios, has confirmed that a new Wonder Woman film is already in development, explaining that the project is "slow moving, but it's moving".
James, 58, told Entertainment Weekly: "We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."
Gal Gadot previously starred as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in a number of DC movies, including Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Wonder Woman 1984.
However, plans to make a third standalone Wonder Woman movie with Gal as the lead actress were scrapped after James took on his current role.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director has not yet cast the role of Wonder Woman for the upcoming movie, but he acknowledged that Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are crucial to the DC brand.
James explained: "I wouldn't say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us.
"Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we're dealing with the other two."
Earlier this year, James claimed that "people are looking for heroes right now".
The filmmaker wrote and directed the new Superman movie, and James is feeling optimistic about the David Corenswet-led film.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at a DC press event, he explained: "I think he's the right Superman because he is a character that stands for something that is solid, stands for basic human morals, basic human integrity, basic belief in protecting others and protecting the weak being good to people and being honest.
"People are looking for heroes right now. They are looking for values of goodness, looking for people who are good and decent human beings. And Superman is that."
James and Warner Bros plan to throw their full weight behind the promotional campaign for the upcoming film.
The director said: "DZ [David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery] loves what we're doing, loves the movie, and has really rallied the entire company behind Superman for this summer.
"You've seen what can happen when Warner Bros. Discover gets together behind a Barbie or a Beetlejuice or a Wonka or Kong. And that's how its being treated right now for Superman. Everything that DZ has promised us two years ago when we got the job, it's all been a reality."
James and Peter Safran became the co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios back in 2022.
And the duo remain committed to bringing popular comic book characters to life in the coming months and years.
James shared: "We don't want these characters to die out.
"We want to bring new stories and new life, we want to introduce these characters to new generations. And I think we are doing that, slowly but surely."

The upcoming sequel had been delayed and rumours about the film's development troubles began to circulate online, though Gunn, 58, has now stressed The Batman: Part II is still in the works and he is expecting director Matt Reeves, 59, to hand in a screenplay later in June. I'm totally excited about it. So we can't wait to read the scripts, but we haven't read it yet, if that's your question.' The DC head added 'people should get off Matt's nut' and stop hassling him for updates about The Batman: Part II. Gunn said: 'People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. 'He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.' The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker added he was 'irritated' by the constant bombardment of questions about the movie online. He said: 'I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. 'And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.' The Batman: Part II was initially due to hit cinemas in 2026, though was pushed back a year to October 2027 to give Reeves more time to finish the story. Although no plot details about the film are known, it has been confirmed Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman, Colin Farrell's The Penguin, Andy Serkis's Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright's Gotham police officer James 'Jim' Gordon would all be returning for the sequel. While work on The Batman: Part II continues, it was recently announced the Caped Crusader would be getting his own villain spin-off movie through Clayface. The picture will star White Lines actor Tom Rhys Harries in the titular role, while Speak No Evil filmmaker James Watkins directs from a script written by Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan. Gunn explained Clayface - which will hit screens in September 2026 - would be set in the mainline DC Universe (DCU) opposed to the Elseworlds universe, like The Batman, which is separate to the DCU. Gunn said of bringing Clayface into the DCU: 'Well, I think it was just we needed DCU content. Mike Flanagan is somebody who I've been friendly with for a long time, and he wrote me about Clayface. 'He texted me about it really early on in my DC journey. Just being honest, I did not think that was something that was going to happen, but he came in and he pitched the idea and I was like, 'Oh s***! That's cool.' 'It's a body horror movie. It's a horror movie that, like any cool body horror movie, just happens to be in the DCU. 'And then he wrote the script, and the script was fantastic. We did not plan to do Clayface. That was really something he brought to us.'

Let there be rock: AC/DC tipped to play Perth on Power Up world tour in December

Ten years after they last shook Perth, Australian rock legends AC/DC are due to hit town for at least one stadium date later this year. The band's previous visit was in November 2015, when Angus Young and co. performed two massive gigs at Domain Stadium in Subiaco as part of their Rock or Bust world tour. It's understood that AC/DC will play at least one concert on their global trek on latest chart-topping album, 2020's Power Up, at Optus Stadium in December, with a second show dependent on ticket sales. The visit is expected to be confirmed next week. Starring guitar god Young and long-serving UK singer Brian Johnson, AC/DC has been on the road for more than a year. The rest of the current touring line-up features Stevie Young, who replaced his late uncle Malcolm on guitar in 2014, plus the American rhythm section of bassist Chris Chaney and drummer Matt Laug. The Power Up tour kicked off in Germany on May 17 2024 and saw the rock icons responsible for classics such as Back in Black, Thunderstruck and Let There Be Rock perform throughout Europe. AC/DC completed 12 North American dates in late May are poised to begin another run of European stadium shows, kicking off in Prague on June 26. The band's last scheduled concert is in Edinburgh on August 21. AC/DC sold more than 520,000 tickets on the 11-date Australasian leg of the Rock or Bust tour, while they flogged 750,000 seats during the record-breaking Black Ice visit in 2009. Melbourne-based Van Egmond Group, part of TEG Group since 2020, promoted both of those tours and is expected to bring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Down Under again. Their 17th studio album, Power Up became AC/DC's sixth to top the ARIA Albums chart when it was released in 2020. AC/DC and the Bee Gees are the only groups inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ARIA Hall of Fame. The Aussie rock gods are not the only big name tipped to play Optus Stadium, with a high profile pop act pencilled in for February. Fans of Beyonce will hope the US superstar hits Perth on her Cowboy Carter stadium tour, which began in Los Angeles in late April and is currently in France before another run of North American shows. Global touring giant Live Nation is promoting Beyonce's tour. TEG Group, Live Nation and Optus Stadium operators VenuesLive have been contacted for comment.
