Steelers' Will Howard thankful for Aaron Rodgers mentorship: 'He's been so awesome to me'
Aaron Rodgers may have been brought in to lead the Steelers' offense — but his wisdom and role as a mentor for rookie QB Will Howard has gone a long way in such a short amount of time.
On insider Brian Batko's Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Howard spoke highly of Rodgers' mentorship and the knowledge he's passing along (courtesy of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette):
"He's been so awesome to me so far," Howard said. "I mean, obviously we've only gotten to be together for about three days, but I got a really good feeling about him and about this whole QB room. I think we already, in this past week, meshed really well — hit it off. I think we got a good vibe, good group, and Aaron's been just so willing to help me. He's like, 'Literally, as much or as little as you want me to help you, I'll be there.' He's already given me tips, little things here and there — even in the meeting room, on the field, in my drops, different little things. Obviously, I can't do the things that he can do mechanically, so I don't want to replicate that too much because that's pretty unique. But, for the most part, everything I can learn from that guy is invaluable."
When Howard was first drafted, it seemed as if Steelers legendary QB Ben Roethlisberger was taking the Ohio State Buckeye under his wing — but who could say no to learning from two future Hall of Fame QBs?

Ottawa Redblacks weather conditions, down Calgary Stampeders for first win of CFL season
Redblacks 20, Stampeders 12 The Ottawa Redblacks did what they had to for their first win of the Canadian Football League season Saturday. On a windy, rainy and cold afternoon at McMahon Stadium, the Redblacks used a strong running game, a stout defence and the kicking boot of Lewis Ward to hand the Calgary Stampeders their first loss of the season. In the 20-12 victory that improved the Redblacks record to 1-2 and moved them from last in the East Division into second place, Dustin Crum surely improved his standing from third-string quarterback to the primary backup behind the injured Dru Brown by not turning the ball over and picking up the W. Crum, who completed just nine of 22 passes because the conditions gave normally sure-handed receivers slippery fingers, ran 11 times for 64 yards. And, while William Stanback had his best game as a Redblack with nine carries for 82 yards, stealing the spotlight was his platoon partner in the backfield. Canadian running back Daniel Adeboboye scored the game's only touchdown with 5:02 left, when he pulled in a nine-yard pass from Crum. Right before that, Adeboboye made the biggest offensive play of the day when he took a handoff and burst up the middle for a 52-yard gain. Adeboboye finished the game with 10 carries for 96 yards. The Redblacks' defence was credited with five turnovers, including a late fourth-quarter interception by safety Charlie Ringland, and stopped the Vernon Adams Jr.-directed Calgary offence for the third time on a third-down play to seal the outcome. Ward was 4-for-5 on field goal attempts with scoring boots of 34, 22, 26 and 33 yards before a late 48-yard attempt hit the left upright and stayed out. The Redblacks also cleaned up a trouble spot by taking just four penalties for 26 yards. They held a 6-2 first-half lead that could have been mistaken for the score of a Senators-Flames National Hockey League game. On Ottawa's first possession, Crum ran three times for 30 yards during a 10-play, 52-yard drive that ended with a Ward field goal from the 34. When Calgary's Rene Paredes was wide with a 43-yard field-goal attempt later in the first quarter, Devonte Dedmon returned the ball to Ottawa's 12-yard line, but the Redblacks' Robert Priester was called for an illegal block, and the ball was brought back to the one. Two plays later, Crum was sacked in the end zone by Jaylon Hutchings. It was the third time in two games that a Priester penalty preceded points by the opposition. In last week's loss to Montreal, he was flagged for horse-collar tackles before an Alouettes touchdown and a field goal. Ottawa took a 3-2 lead over Calgary late into the first half because of three turnovers forced by the defence. Along with a fumble recovery by defensive back Amari Henderson, the Redblacks 'stopped' Calgary when Clark Barnes dropped an Adams end-zone pass and again when defensive back Adrian Frye snuffed out an attempt by short-yardage QB P.J. Walker. It was another big play in a road game for Frye, who had two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the season opener. From that goal-line stand, the Redblacks ran a 12-play drive powered by Stanback to set up Ward's 22-yard field goal. Stanback, who entered the game with 16 carries for 55 yards on the season, ran the ball seven times for 76 yards on that series alone. Ward's second field goal was made possible because Eugene Lewis, who last week had his consecutive games with a touchdown catch streak ended one short of the CFL record, dropped a Crum end-zone pass that hit him in the numbers.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola open to coaching in South America in future – ‘Why not?'
Pep Guardiola says he is open to managing in South America one day after experiencing the passion of their fans and teams in the opening week of the FIFA Club World Cup. The Manchester City manager praised the performances of the Brazilian and Argentinian team, as well as the colour their travelling supporters have brought to the competition. Advertisement Guardiola has spent his entire managerial career in Europe but he has been linked with the Brazil national team role in the past. With the Spaniard into his tenth season at Manchester City he spoke highly of the football culture when asked whether the experience has made him consider managing in South America in the future. 'Why not?' said Guardiola, who signed a new contract in November keeping him at City until the summer of 2027. 'Many many good things in all history that happen in football, many, many good things come from South America. Especially Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, I would say all the countries, many, many good things. The greatest players come from there, and after most of them come to Europe because the opportunities are economically prestigious. 'I love when you're in this tournament and you play South American teams with Europe, another continent. How they challenge, how they compete, how you see. 'I admire how they defend, Boca Juniors how every single goal is like, wow, the end of the world. You know, it's different styles, different ways. It's really, really good. 'I like that every game is tough, really, really tough. Except one or two, all the games are tight, and people say, 'Ah, surprise, European team lose'. Oh, yeah, welcome to the real world, right? Welcome to the world my friends. You look like you are just moving your belly, and you are not watching what happens, because they are good.' Bayern Munich's 2-1 win over Boca Juniors on Saturday was the first defeat of the tournament for South America. The favourites coming into it were all European sides but Guardiola says he is not as surprised by some of the results. 'For the South American teams, the competition may be the maximum. For European teams, it is [just] a World Cup,' he said. Advertisement 'I was lucky to play as a manager in this competition four times and we won four times. What would happen in Brazil is they would have a carnival for one week, dancing and celebrating but it is cultural for the continent and countries. 'Now we are here, I want to do the best, I want to enjoy the moment here because you are here one time every four years and I want to do well and I want to arrive in the latter stages.' Guardiola confirmed he will change all his outfield players against UAE side Al Ain but reiterated that he wants a smaller squad by the end of the window. 'No news, good news,' Guardiola said in response to a question about reports linking Ilkay Gundogan with a move to Galatasaray. 'So I don't know anything, I didn't speak with him, and if he will not be part, he would not be here. But at the same time, we have – right now – a long squad, too many players, so we cannot go with 26, 27 players this season because there would be more without playing, and step by step maybe a few players are going to move. But right now, Ilkay is absolutely part of my mind and the team.' He previously threatened to quit if he was carrying too many players this upcoming season but he was more diplomatic on the subject this time. 'I would love to have the players that we have now all season. I would love it,' he said. 'I don't have any complaints about the players, how they behave. The problem is they will be unhappy during the season. They will be sad, they will be disappointed. I don't want that. 'For me it's not a problem. I have more selection (but) I don't like to be six, seven players, just in case injuries, being at home. So I do it that way. I do that for them. 'So that's why we have to see what happens. We still have a long time, I would say, until the transfer window will be closed. W''ll see what happens step by step.' Ilkay Gundogan is one of the players who have been linked with a move away despite only returning to the club last summer following a year at Barcelona.

Diontae Johnson supports ex-Steelers teammate, predicts Kenny Pickett to start for Browns
Kenny Pickett and Diontae Johnson have reunited on the Browns — and the ex-Steelers wideout believes his former QB will get the starting nod in Cleveland. On an episode of the Sports and Suits podcast, Johnson subtly explained that Pickett has been getting the Browns' starting QB reps: "I think [the Browns] are gonna roll with Kenny [Pickett] right now," Johnson said. "I've been seeing Kenny, right now, with the ones — and then Joe [Flacco] will come in. I think they're probably gonna roll with [Pickett], just like to see — coming off the season he was with Philly and having a Super Bowl." Johnson then addressed concerns over Pickett's hand size, claiming that the former Steelers QB "can spin it" even with gloves on. The Pickett-to-Johnson connection in Pittsburgh lasted just two years — as the Steelers traded Kenny "Two Gloves" to the Eagles, and Johnson to the Panthers in March of 2024. The two former Steelers teammates will look to play a major role in Cleveland's offense in 2025 — and they'll both get their first opportunity at a revenge game when the Browns head to Pittsburgh in Week 6 this upcoming season.
