E-invoice rethink is hailed

Kota Kinabalu: The Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) hails the government's rethink on e-invoicing requirements and hopes that its call for the government's rethink on stamping of employment contracts will resolve the issue. The Inland Revenue Board's (LHDN) has just announced that taxpayers with an annual income or sales below RM500,000 are exempted from the implementation of the e-Invoice system.
Advertisement This was what Samenta has fought for in the interests of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia, initially just getting a RM150,000 exemption. Supported by its Sabah head Dato' George Lim, Samenta president Datuk William Ng said the stamping issue goes beyond legal interpretation but it is about operational feasibility. They said the sudden shift from a passive regime to active enforcement, coupled with retrospective audits and penalties, is perceived as punitive rather than developmental. Penalties for non-compliance: Individuals: Up to RM50,000 fine and three years' jail for the first offence Companies: Up to RM100,000 fine for first offence Repeat offenders face doubled penalties While some sellers have raised concerns about implementation challenges, others have lauded the move as dignifying the national language and promoting Malaysian identity in the digital marketplace. Woman says boss demanded live location during leave

SME meet draws over 400 participants

Kota Kinabalu: Over 400 participants from across Malaysia, including SME owners, industry leaders, and professionals, attended the SME Sabah 2025 Conference, here, on Friday. The full-day event, themed 'Mastering Sustainability & Empowering the Change', was officiated by State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe. SME Sabah President Dr Deledda Tan said the conference aimed to equip businesses with practical strategies while strengthening their role in the State's economic growth. 'We want participants to walk away recharged, equipped with actionable insights and meaningful connections,' she said. Dr Deledda also announced that SME Sabah is now a certified HRD Corporation training provider, giving members access to structured development programmes. The event is recognised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), with attendees eligible for 6.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours.
