Lerner on the Lawn returns
ELKHART — The free Lerner on the Lawn concert series is back this summer at Central Green with new energy and flare, Lerner Theatre officials said.
It will also be on a different day of the week from the downtown ArtWalk this year.
This is the fourth year The Lerner has hosted the free monthly concert series.
The first Lerner on the Lawn will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 28, featuring EatDrinkBeHappy, a music project from Nashville-based songwriter and artist John Allan Miller.
'If you can imagine the kind of music that you'd like to hang out on the lake and listen to on a boat, maybe a yacht, I don't know, and come together with your friends, maybe have a little drink, and just relax,' said Jenna Brouillette, marketing and communications manager. 'And really enjoy the summer feeling that comes with the warm weather and the clear skies. That's the kind of event that we're looking forward to.'
Like in previous years, the Lerner on the Lawn event will have food trucks along High Street, Brouillette said. The events will be sponsored by the city and the Elkhart County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. The events will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Lerner Theatre and will be free to the public.
In years past, the ArtWalk has occurred alongside the Lerner on the Lawn events, but this year the events will be separate.
'ArtWalk is being a little bit reimagined,' Brouillette said. 'It's being taken on by Elkhart Parks and Recreation, which we are super excited for them to continue Elkhart ArtWalk on Wednesdays this year.'
ArtWalk will be held the last Wednesday each month through September starting June 25. By separating the events, Brouillette said, people have more opportunities to head downtown to see, eat and play.
The vision was to bring ArtWalk back down to Main Street and showcase the businesses in downtown, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jamison Czarnecki said.
'The goal is to take it back to its roots to where it was when it was first created,' Czarnecki said. 'Put it in around Main Street and then try to put as many artists as we can on Main Street, in and out the businesses, diversify the types of art that are out there that we're showcasing, and then have music throughout Main Street. It should be a fun event.'
ArtWalk will also feature a large kids zone on the plaza led by the Tolson Center, Czarnecki said. The hope is to continue to make downtown vibrant with something to do for everyone, he said.

There's now more clarity surrounding Bill Belichick's infamous April CBS interview in which Jordon Hudson made an extremely awkward cameo. WRAL News, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based outlet, obtained emails from UNC through a public records request that answered some of the lingering questions about Hudson's role in the UNC head coach's interview and her influence in their relationship. The interview was arranged for Belichick to promote his new book, 'The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football,' but things took a turn after the 73-year-old was asked how he and his 24-year-old girlfriend met, as Hudson interrupted and shut down the question. 'Jordon was present at the CBS interview because David Kass, the Simon & Schuster publicist, was not there,' Belichick wrote in an email elaborating on Hudson's role at the interview and within the book. 'I included Jordon in the book acknowledgments because she was a creative contributor to the book, including having the idea for formatting the 4 special pages in the book.' With all eyes on the relationship and the program for quite some time, Belichick's messages read, 'I don't want to make a wrong move here,' after the interview, as he and the university devised and later released a statement on April 30 to clear the air.

'In Nashville, you know I've been divorced for a little over a year now. It's a small town, and we're all friends, and we all work together, and the music industry is very tiny there," Morris, 35, said of Hurd, 38. Though the exes are "really friendly," she said it's "weird" because their friends had to "pick sides." "Just in terms of respect for each other," she said. "I saw a really close friend of my ex's at a bar a couple months ago, and I was with my best friend. We all used to hang out together for a decade or more and then it's like, 'Damn, it's just going to be kind of weird.' Maybe it's just going to be weird for the first few years." Morris and Hurd — who share 5-year-old son Hayes — met in 2013 when they wrote "Last Turn Home" for Tim McGraw, but their romance didn't blossom until a few years later. They married in March 2018. Morris filed for divorce in October 2023, and the exes reached a settlement agreement three months later. They finalized their divorce in January 2024. On Therapuss, Morris said that as she got older, she realized people who aren't "energetically aligned" started to "fade away" from her life. "I have these people who have been my ride or dies but I feel like COVID changed a lot of people, when I had my son I could feel people fall away," she continued. "I think when you have kids sometimes... I think as a new mother it's already such a lonely time and you're very isolated plus it was COVID. But I certainly made friends who are moms through the process." Morris' comments come after she made an appearance on the Dear Chelsea podcast and revealed she and Hurd were able to move past a lot of their problems to put their son first. "We're over a year out now ... we get along now and have moved past a lot of it," Morris said. "We're neighbors, and I'm just so fortunate that we have put our son above each other's s---, and it's better for the two of us if we're getting along." "I'm lucky that we love each other so much still," she said. "We have the highest respect, but also there is that devastation that two people [who] love each other that much can't make it work in the real world. It's always going to be multifaceted."
