'Rakshas Raj in Bihar': Tejashwi Yadav slams NDA government after gunfire outside his Patna residence
PATNA: Two motorcycle-borne criminals opened fire at a youth near the high-security Polo Road, adjacent to the official residence of Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in the state capital on Thursday.
The victim, Rahul Kumar, fortunately escaped unhurt as the bullets missed their target. However, the miscreants managed to snatch Rs 450 from his pocket.
Polo Road is a high-security zone that houses the residences of ministers, MLAs and senior bureaucrats. The Raj Bhawan and the chief minister's residence are also a stone's throw away from the site of the incident. The daylight firing has raised serious concerns over the law and order situation in Patna.
The incident occurred just hours before young IPS officer Kartikey Sharma took charge as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna. Sharma replaced Avakash Kumar, who was removed from the post allegedly for his failure to control crime in the capital. Prior to this posting, Sharma was the SP of Purnea.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav seized the opportunity to launch a scathing attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA government. Recalling the incident, Tejashwi said, 'There is complete lawlessness. It's a reign of criminals. There is no sign of governance left, and the Chief Minister has lost all authority.'

Bihar elections: Congress ramps up reservation pitch ahead of PM Modi's visit; alleges NDA has ‘given up' on 65% quota push
File photo: Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Bihar to launch key development projects ahead of assembly elections, the Congress on Friday sharpened its attack on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, alleging that it has 'all but given up' on the proposed 65 per cent reservation for SCs, STs, OBCs and EBCs. The policy, rooted in findings from the caste survey conducted under the erstwhile INDIA-bloc, is currently under judicial review. Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, proposed a three-pronged legislative approach to safeguard the reservation framework. 'The double-engine Govt in Bihar has all but given up,' Ramesh claimed. 'But there are three ways out that the INC has been demanding for long that will make the 65 per cent reservations a reality,' he added. Ramesh outlined the party's proposals. First, making the Bihar reservation law part of the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, as was done in 1994 by the Narasimha Rao government to protect Tamil Nadu's 69 per cent quota. Second, he called for a constitutional amendment to bypass the Supreme Court-imposed 50 per cent ceiling on reservations. Third, he pushed for the implementation of Article 15(5), which allows for reservation in private educational institutions, a provision upheld by the apex court but left unimplemented for over a decade. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Confidence packed. Wrinkles left behind. Philips Garment Steamers Book Now Undo 'This has been unimplemented in the past 11 years after the Supreme Court upheld the Constitutional amendment introduced by Dr Manmohan Singh's government in 2006,' Ramesh pointed out. He further said the Congress would 'most definitely' raise these 'issues of fundamental importance to social justice and empowerment' during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 21. The remarks come as PM Modi is in Siwan, Bihar, where he is set to inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects, including the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line worth over Rs 400 crore and a new train service. His visit also includes stops in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, with a mass yoga event scheduled in Bhubaneswar to mark International Yoga Day. The Congress has increasingly tied its reservation pitch to the broader caste-based census framework, demanding immediate legislative action. The move signals the party's intent to double down on social justice narratives ahead of the state polls due in October. Congress leaders have also linked their call for implementing Article 15(5) to the broader agenda of extending affirmative action into the private sector for marginalised communities.

Tejashwi Yadav fires 12 sharp questions ahead of PM Modi's visit to Bihar
Just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's scheduled visit to Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav fired off 12-pointed questions, challenging the Prime Minister to answer them during his speech, according to the official statement. The sharp political attack, posted on Friday early morning, aimed to highlight what Yadav called the failures of the BJP-led governments at both the state and central levels. In a strongly worded open letter addressed directly to the Prime Minister, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that PM Modi has repeatedly made false promises to the people of Bihar and demanded accountability on issues ranging from poverty and unemployment to corruption and law and order. Continuing his attack, Yadav asked if PM Modi would again repeat the "showy foundation laying, inauguration and commencement" of schemes that have been announced multiple times since 2014. He also questioned why Bihar remains at the bottom in terms of poverty, unemployment, per capita income, investment, literacy, and industrial growth despite a 20-year rule by a "double engine government," as per the release. Highlighting regional development, Yadav drew attention to contributions made by RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. "Will you tell the people of Saran division that Shri Lalu Prasad ji had established JP University and three big railway factories along with numerous development works in this division?" he asked, noting that engines from Marhaura are now being exported. Targeting law and order, the RJD leader questioned whether the PM would address recent firing incidents outside the CM's residence and Raj Bhavan. He wrote, "Will you muster the courage to condemn... or will you conveniently ignore the failure of the 20 years of government and blame the opposition?" as per the release. He asked Prime Minister Modi if he would acknowledge more than 20 scams allegedly worth over Rs 2 lakh crore that occurred during the tenure of the current government. "Note that earlier you have already counted 20 scams of Nitish Kumar ji from your own mouth," Yadav reminded. Meanwhile, PM Modi will embark on a two-day visit, beginning with Bihar and Odisha today and then Andhra Pradesh. Today, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects at Siwan, a major boost to infrastructure and socio-economic development in Bihar.
