Aaron Pierre gains James Bond buzz after breakout performance in Netflix's Rebel Ridge

Express Tribune2 days ago

Speculation around the next James Bond continues to grow, and British actor Aaron Pierre has emerged as a compelling candidate. Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently reported that Pierre is among those being considered for the iconic role. Fans and critics alike point to his performance in Netflix's 2024 action thriller Rebel Ridge as a strong argument in his favor.
Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, Rebel Ridge follows Terry Richmond, a former marine who travels to Shelby Springs to help his cousin. Once there, he becomes entangled in a violent conflict with corrupt local police. Pierre's portrayal of Richmond earned acclaim for its balance of intensity, physicality, and charisma—traits long associated with the Bond character.
In a review by Dexerto, Pierre's performance was described as 'a star-is-born moment'—'hulking, intimidating, but coolly charismatic.' The Guardian praised it as 'a real movie star arrival,' while Variety highlighted his 'restraint and precision,' calling his character both 'sympathetic' and powerful. Even The Observer, despite reservations about the film, noted that Pierre deserves his own action franchise.
Pierre is also set to star as John Stewart in the upcoming DC series Lanterns, marking his entry into the superhero genre. But fans are now wondering whether his next big role could be as James Bond. With charm, intelligence, and effortless screen presence, Rebel Ridge proves that Pierre has all the right ingredients to take on the legendary 007 role.

Rod Stewart criticizes Israel's Gaza offensive and ends friendship with Trump over Israel arms support

In a recent interview with Radio Times, British music icon Rod Stewart condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military actions in Gaza, stating that they amount to efforts to 'annihilate' the Palestinian people. 'What Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews,' Stewart said. 'It's annihilation, and that's all he wants to do — get rid of them all. I don't know how they sleep at night.' His comments come amid heightened international scrutiny of Israel's operations in the Gaza Strip, as well as continued debate surrounding arms sales and foreign policy in the United States. Stewart's remarks also signal a rupture in his longtime friendship with former U.S. President Donald Trump. The 80-year-old singer explained that Trump's unwavering support for Israel has caused a personal rift. 'No, I can't anymore,' Stewart said of maintaining their relationship. 'As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis — and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop?' Stewart and Trump had been neighbors for years in Palm Beach, Florida, frequently attending social events together. 'We're both on the beach. I used to go to his Christmas parties,' Stewart recalled. 'He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that. But he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well… Since he became president, he became another guy. Somebody I didn't know.' As political tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, Stewart's remarks add a high-profile celebrity voice to the growing global debate over the humanitarian cost of the conflict and U.S. policy in the region.

Mindhunter could return as a film trilogy

Fans of Netflix's cult-favourite crime series Mindhunter may have reason to hope once more. Holt McCallany, who portrayed FBI agent Bill Tench in the show, recently revealed that conversations have taken place about reviving the series but not as a traditional show. Speaking to Comic Book Resources, McCallany shared that director and executive producer David Fincher has discussed the possibility of turning Mindhunter into a trilogy of feature-length films. 'I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago,' McCallany said. 'He told me there's a chance it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance. I know there are writers who are working, but David has to be happy with the scripts.' Originally premiering in 2017, Mindhunter gained critical acclaim for its dark, psychological storytelling and meticulous period detail. Set in the late 1970s, the series followed FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (McCallany), along with psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), as they developed criminal profiling techniques by interviewing notorious serial killers. Season 2 aired in 2020, but the series was put on indefinite hold in 2023 due to Fincher's other commitments. McCallany expressed both gratitude for the original series and cautious optimism for its potential return. 'I felt very fortunate and privileged to have gotten to do that show at all,' he said. 'I would love it if it were to return. Like I said, he gave me a little bit of hope - but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align.' While nothing is confirmed yet, the update offers fans a glimmer of hope that Mindhunter's gripping story might still continue - just in a different format.
