Giants' Nabers Should Be Ready For Training Camp After Sitting Out Spring Practices With Toe Issue
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers should be available to practice for the start of training camp next month after sitting out during the spring with a toe issue. Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Nabers was doing good and he had no concerns that the injury would affect his availability. 'Every person's at a different part in–call it rehab if you will or prehab,' Daboll said, 'and we just did what we thought was best for Malik to try to get him as healthy as we can.'
Daboll said last month during organized team activities that the Giants were simply being cautious with Nabers, who has had an issue with the toe since his college days at LSU. Daboll also said then that Nabers didn't need any procedures on his toe during the offseason. Nabers didn't practice in the sessions open to reporters during OTAs and minicamp but participated in some of the team's walkthrough periods. 'He's had some issues, like I said in the past in college with it,' Daboll said. 'And again, that was the plan that we came up with for him and for our football team.'
Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the draft last year, caught an NFL rookie-record 109 passes last season while setting the franchise mark for most receptions in a season. Nabers also tied former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. for the NFL record for fewest games needed for 100 career catches, reaching the milestone in just 14 games.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas also didn't practice throughout the spring while he works his way back from surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury to his right foot that sidelined him the final 11 games. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence didn't practice in team drills but participated in individual drills during OTAs and minicamp. Third-round defensive tackle Darius Alexander and fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo also didn't practice fully in minicamp because of undisclosed injuries. 'They're progressing,' Daboll said. 'They'll do everything they can do to get ready and hopefully they'll be ready to go.'

Semi-retired Lexi Thompson shot a 2-under 70 in the second round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship on Friday to put herself in position to contend over the weekend for her first major title in more than a decade. After an even-par round Thursday, Thompson was bogey-free in the second round until her final hole. Along with the warming temperatures, and caddies being able to remove their bibs while on the course, was the ever-present Texas wind that picked up throughout the day. None of 156 players played without a bogey in the first round, when the average score over 75. The 30-year-old Thompson, who has said last year was her final one playing a full schedule, is in her seventh tournament this season, including all three majors so far. Her only major victory was at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2014, though her 13 top-five finishes in majors since 2013 is the most by any player. Thompson missed the cut at the US Women's Open three weeks ago, but last week was in contention in the final round before tying for fourth at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Her shots to save par Friday were maybe more important than the three birdies – the longest an 11-footer, with a 6½-footer and nearly 4-footer as well. Thompson was only 70 yards from the pin after her tee shot at the 10th, but hit her approach into the bunker and was still 43 feet away after knocking it out of there before a curling right-to-left putt. At the par-5 14th, her 5-foot putt did a 360-degree roll around the lip before falling into the cup. When her approach at No. 18 landed in a bunker right of the flag, Thompson looked upward and then blasted 15 feet past the hole, unable to save par one last time. Only 15 of 156 players broke par Thursday. Thompson had one of the 10 under-par rounds in the early wave of 77 players Friday, the best being Charley Hull's 69 after opening with a 78.

Benfica knock out Auckland in Club World Cup romp
ORLANDO: Benfica romped to a 6-0 win over Auckland City on Friday in a Club World Cup match in Orlando which suffered a long weather delay, with Angel Di Maria netting two penalties. With the Portuguese side leading by a goal at half-time the match was suspended because of a storm, eventually resuming two hours later. Auckland of New Zealand, the only Oceania Football Confederation representatives at the tournament, were thrashed 10-0 by Bayern Munich in their Group C opener and this defeat means they are eliminated. Despite their eventual collapse, Auckland battled hard in the first half and almost made it to the break unscathed. Auckland goalkeeper Nathan Garrow made several good saves to keep Benfica at bay and the Portuguese side grew frustrated. Benfica took the lead deep into first half stoppage time when Gianluca Prestianni was clumsily felled in the area by Haris Zeb. Di Maria, who converted a spot-kick in the opening 2-2 draw against Boca Juniors, sent Garrow the wrong way. At half-time the match became the fourth in the last four days at the tournament to be impacted by a suspension for adverse conditions, with a storm arriving at the Inter&CO Stadium. When play eventually resumed, Benfica came back out strongly. Vangelis Pavlidis bundled his way through and smashed home to double Bruno Lage's team's lead in the 53rd minute, with Renato Sanches netting the third 10 minutes later from outside the box with a deflected effort. Luxembourg midfielder Leandro Barreiro bagged a brace to expand Benfica's lead, tucking home at the back post from Pavlidis' cross for the fourth before netting from close range. Michael Waltrip Joins Ownership Group of AF1's Nashville Kats
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip has joined the ownership group of the Nashville Kats, a founding franchise of the Arena Football 1 league. The Kats announced Waltrip joining the group Friday, along with his craft beer company, Michael Waltrip Brewing. The ownership group already includes former NFL coach Jon Gruden, with Jeff Fisher, a former coach of the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans, majority owner. 'We now have three living legends attached to the Nashville Kats – Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden and Michael Waltrip – all with the ultimate goal to win championships and raise the AF1 to its ultimate potential along with any team associated with the AF1,' said Bobby DeVoursney, the Kats' CEO and managing partner. Waltrip's brewery is now the team's official craft beer. The team also plans a Waltrip Winners Circle fan zone for the upcoming season. The Kats play the Southwest Kansas Storm on Sunday in Clarksville in the AF1 semifinals.
