Michael Waltrip Joins Ownership Group of AF1's Nashville Kats
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip has joined the ownership group of the Nashville Kats, a founding franchise of the Arena Football 1 league.
The Kats announced Waltrip joining the group Friday, along with his craft beer company, Michael Waltrip Brewing. The ownership group already includes former NFL coach Jon Gruden, with Jeff Fisher, a former coach of the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans, majority owner.
'We now have three living legends attached to the Nashville Kats – Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden and Michael Waltrip – all with the ultimate goal to win championships and raise the AF1 to its ultimate potential along with any team associated with the AF1,' said Bobby DeVoursney, the Kats' CEO and managing partner.
Waltrip's brewery is now the team's official craft beer. The team also plans a Waltrip Winners Circle fan zone for the upcoming season.
The Kats play the Southwest Kansas Storm on Sunday in Clarksville in the AF1 semifinals.

Both managers were ejected in the top of the ninth after they ran onto the field and bumped into each other during a vociferous argument that almost got even more physical before their players and assistant coaches intervened. Shildt believed Dodgers reliever Jack Little intentionally hit Fernando Tatís Jr. in the right hand with a pitch, igniting the latest bench-clearing incident between local rivals with several years of bad-tempered history. 'Circumstances were really challenging this past series, and at the end of the day I don't regret standing up for a guy that I love in Tati and a team that I love and a city that I love,' Shildt said. 'In that regard I have no regrets how it got to that point. Again we can all have our comments and thoughts and theories. But as far as my actions, it's not something you want to do every night or needs to be done hopefully ever again. But appropriate actions for the circumstances were taken, and I don't regret it at all.' Shildt and Roberts will serve their suspensions Friday. For one day only: The Brad Blizzard available at Dairy Queen. The snack story of the Stanley Cup playoffs – did Brad Marchand eat a Blizzard between periods of a playoff game or not? – reached its celebratory peak Friday. A Dairy Queen in Sunrise, Florida, where the Panthers play their home games, renamed the treat for the day in honor of the now two-time Stanley Cup winner. The Brad Blizzard was one of his favorites: the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor, though on Friday the primary ingredient wasn't called chocolate chips but rather 'chocolate chirps' – a nod to the verbal jabs that hockey players give one another on the ice. 'I love seeing the excitement from everyone,' Marchand said while working at the DQ for a little while, actually making the treats and handing them out to customers both inside the store and at the drive-thru window. 'These are moments that you love to appreciate.'
