Jahra records the highest temperature in Kuwait at 52°C

KUWAIT CITY, June 16: The Meteorological Department recorded the highest temperature in Kuwait on Monday, reaching 52 degrees Celsius in Jahra. Other areas also experienced extreme heat, with temperatures hitting 51 degrees Celsius in Rabiya, Abdali, and Kuwait International Airport, and 50 degrees Celsius in Nuwaiseeb. Dharar Al-Ali, Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, explained that the country is currently under the influence of an extended Indian seasonal low-pressure system, bringing a very hot air mass. As a result, Kuwait will experience very hot weather during the daytime and hot to very hot conditions at night today and tomorrow. Al-Ali noted that northwesterly winds, ranging from light to moderate speeds, will affect the country. These winds are expected to strengthen at times, raising the likelihood of dust storms starting Monday morning and continuing through Wednesday. Dust activity is predicted to peak from Thursday and last until Saturday. 'The northwesterly winds will intensify, becoming moderate to active in speed by Tuesday, causing dusty conditions especially in open areas,' Al-Ali said. On Wednesday and Thursday, wind speeds could reach between 22 and 65 kilometers per hour, accompanied by dusty weather across most parts of Kuwait. Sea wave heights are also expected to rise above seven feet during this period. Al-Ali added that temperatures will gradually drop starting Tuesday by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius compared to Monday, due to increased wind activity and dust presence. The forecasted maximum temperatures for Tuesday range between 46 and 48 degrees Celsius.
