Fans were stunned, and a player was shaken, by a jolting moment at Monday's game. What began as a routine night of baseball changed in a hurry. The New York Yankees played the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, May 26, 2025.
But in the eighth something unexpected occurred, something that hushed the crowd.
Logan O'Hoppe
leaves game after scary bat incident
Yankees rookie Jorbit Vivas is in the box to lead off the top of the eighth inning. He's a left-handed hitter. Behind him crouched Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe, as usual. Vivas made contact with the pitch and swung his bat all the way through—but on the follow-through, his bat hit O'Hoppe right in the head.
The impact knocked off O'Hoppe's catcher's mask.
He looked stunned but stayed in the game for the rest of the inning.
Before the ninth began, though, the Angels made a call. They took O'Hoppe out of the game to get him checked for a possible head injury.
Angels manager Ron Washington later told reporters that Logan O'Hoppe said he felt fine, but the team didn't want to take any chances. According to MLB.com, they are keeping a close watch on him and his condition.

Team to monitor O'Hoppe's health; Vivas still adjusting to MLB life
Logan O'Hoppe, who was born Feb.
9, 2000, in New York, joined the Angels in 2022. He's been a very good player for the team. For now, the team says he's 'day-to-day' and will determine at some base point before the next game if he is cleared to play in it.
Jorbit Vivas is still new to the league. He joined the Yankees in late 2023. He made his big league debut on May 2, 2025, after an injury to Jazz Chisholm Jr. Since then, Vivas has been working hard to find his rhythm.
He hit his first home run just a few days ago, on May 22, against the Rangers.
That same night, the Yankees beat the Angels 5-1. Ryan Yarbrough pitched six strong innings, and Anthony Volpe delivered a big three-run double.
For now, everyone is waiting to see if Logan O'Hoppe will return for Tuesday's game. His safety comes first.

Josh Hazlewood reacts to Mitchell Johnson's explosive 'IPL' rant over Australia's WTC loss: 'We know what's going on'

Australia speedster Josh Hazlewood finally responded to Mitchell Johnson's scathing assessment of his performance in the World Test Championship (WTC), which the side lost against South Africa at Lord's Cricket Ground. A day after Australia's defeat in the summit clash, Johnson slammed Hazlewood, questioning him over prioritising the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) over the national team. (Action Images via Reuters) Hazlewood, who was suffering a shoulder niggle, returned from Australia to India for the IPL 2025 playoffs. He helped RCB win the tournament for the first time. In the 18th edition of the competition, the tall pacer returned with a total of 22 wickets. However, he had a disappointing outing in the WTC final as he returned with just two wickets. Following this performance, Mitchell Johnson launched a critical attack on the pacer, saying his return to the IPL raised quite a few "eyebrows." 'We've seen concerns about Hazlewood's fitness in recent years, and his decision to prioritise returning to the delayed Indian Premier League over his national team preparations raised eyebrows,' Johnson wrote in his column in The West Australian. Hazlewood responds Ahead of the first Test between Australia and the West Indies, Josh Hazlewood has now reacted to these comments, explaining his decision to return to the IPL and how it served as proper preparation for the WTC final. Also Read: Mitchell Johnson rips Josh Hazlewood for IPL call, demands action after WTC loss "I haven't seen any of that, to be honest. We know what's going on inside our rooms. It seemed far and away the best place to get ready for any type of cricket that was coming up. The weather was definitely a factor as well. Just getting over there and playing intense competition like that, it's hard to replicate in training," he told the Sydney Morning Herald. "Sydney, it was raining, and I had literally nowhere to bowl. I got to Brisbane for three or four days, and it was very wet. We were lucky to get on. I just thought the best place to bowl was India. We were still in the competition, we were going to play the semis, and I was going to be there for 10 days. I think it was comfortably the best option," he added. The first Test between Australia and the West Indies will begin on June 25. The match will be played in Barbados. The visitors will be without both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. Steve Smith injured his finger while attempting to take a catch in the WTC final, while Labuschagne has been dropped owing to his poor performances with the bat.

Punjab Kings dropped THIS player after just 1 match I IPL 2025, smashes 17 sixes, wins game in 52 deliveries blitz in MLC 2025

Preity Zinta paid Rs 3 crore but still, the player could not even get a single match in IPL 2025 with Punjab Kings. The same batter now has caused some noise in Major League Cricket 2025. Mitchell Owen, though signed on an investment of Rs 3 crores as a direct substitute of Glenn Maxwell, was provided only one chance to make it big in IPL 2025 by the Punjab Kings. He played his first match against Rajasthan Royals, where he got a chance to bat at number three, only to be dismissed on a duck. His one failure in that came through being removed off the playing XI of the remaining part of the season. The move by Punjab Kings to bench Owen who played only one match has also been questioned and particularly given his recent output. The franchise did not provide the young talent with the much requisite confidence and game minutes that he needed to settle and adjust a move that now seems to have played against them, since Owen is thriving elsewhere. The current season of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 in the USA has been going on a tear to Mitchell Owen. With Washington Freedom, he scored 89 runs off 52 balls in a run-fest thriller against Texas Super Kings, where his side won the chase to defeat the opponents by two balls. A mere day before his match-winning 89, Owen had already helped Washington Freedom win another game with a scorching 60-run innings against MI New York. His consecutive match winning performances in just a span of 24 hours have made him one of the bright players of the tournament. Having scored 245 runs, Owen is also placed second on the list of highest run-getters in MLC 2025, only short of Finn Allen. The 17 sixes he hit in the tournament have revealed his aggressive batting to be one of the most dangerous this season. He has gone under the radar and had limited usage by the Punjab Kings but he is currently silencing people and curbing his value on a international level. His exploits are reminder that at times all that a player requires is faith and a stretch of one chance after another
