Ricky Ponting not searching for excuses after PBKS' loss, vows to win IPL next year

Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Ricky Ponting refrained from giving any excuses following their loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). RCB beat PBKS by six runs to claim their maiden title and end their 18-year-long trophy a target of 191 runs, Punjab were restricted to 184/7 in their allotted 20 overs. As PBKS failed to win the elusive title, Ricky Ponting reflected on the team's loss and said that he wouldn't be making any excuses. He acknowledged that the team lost momentum at a crucial time and couldn't capitalise after the are no excuses — not from me, not from the team. In fact, Shashank said after the match that it was the best wicket he'd batted on all season. So, it wasn't the pitch. We just lost momentum at a critical time — probably during the last couple of overs of the powerplay. That stretch from overs 6 to 10 really hurt us. We lost key wickets and momentum,' said Ponting in the post-match press conference. Ponting praised Krunal Pandya for his game-changing spell which shifted the momentum towards RCB. Pandya was adjudged Player of the Match for registering remarkable figures of 2/17 in four overs. The PBKS head coach also hoped to win the IPL next season.'Krunal Pandya bowled exceptionally well, which meant the game started slipping away around the 11th to 13th over. The hole became too big, and despite some quality bowling at the end, we came up just a little short. Even getting that close is something to be proud of. Other teams might have been bowled out or lost by 30-35 runs. I'm not even sure if we lost by 6 or 7 runs. Winning the IPL is not easy. Teams like Chennai and Mumbai have won multiple times, but it's a tough tournament to win. I hope in 12 months the Punjab Kings can be the ones celebrating an IPL title,' he Singh was the lone warrior for PBKS, with his unbeaten innings of 61* (30) with the help of three fours and six sixes. His knock brought the team perilously close to the target but they eventually fell six runs short and lost in the IPL final for the second updated on IPL 2025 with India Today!
