The hero Color Wow spray that turned hair into 'liquid glass' at this year's Met Gala

Daily Mirror06-05-2025

For this year's Met Gala red carpet, celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton used Color Wow's cult favourite spray to create Kim Kardashian's ultra-sleek and glass-like hair
The fashion might be the stand out of the Met Gala's red carpet each year, but the hair and beauty are the quiet unsung heroes which tie the celeb's looks together. This year was all about sleek and glossy 'dos, with Kim Kardashian in particular opting for glass-like hair to reflect her glossy all-black outfit.
For her look, Kim's go-to hair stylist Chris Appleton used Color Wow's cult favourite Dream Coat Supernatural Spray to prep her hair for the event, which not only kept it sleek and shiny, but helped prevent frizz from appearing throughout the night. The humidity-fighting spray is usually priced at £27, but you can currently nab your own bottle for £20.25 in LookFantastic's sale.
To create Kim's look – which was finished off with a patent leather hat – Chris started by applying the Dream Coat Supernatural Spray all over her hair, with the spray requiring a liberal amount of spraying to get the desired effect. To activate the frizz-fighting treatment you need to use heat and tension, with Chris using Shark Beauty's FlexFusion to style Kim's hair, with the multi-styler also currently on sale, down from £369.99 to £332.
The combination of tension and heat helps to seal your strands, creating that enviable glass-like finish whilst also stopping frizz and flyaways from popping up. For Kim's classic blow dried curls, Chris first used the FlexFusion's concentrator attachment to rough dry her hair, before swapping to the wet or dry fusion brush attachment to smooth everything out and create the mirror-like shine.
Finally, he used the 1.25' auto-wrap curler attachments to shape Kim's hair, creating defined, natural-looking curls. The Dream Coat Supernatural Spray also acts as a heat protectant, so you don't need to worry about heat damage whilst using your styling tools.
To help keep the finished style in place, Chris applied Color Wow's Texas Hold 'Em Big Hold Hairspray, £29.50, before adding a final spritz of Color Wow's Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray (also now on sale down from £28 to £21 at Sephora) to double up the gloss and give it a long-lasting finish.
Usually gloss-boosting products only last until your next hair wash, but the Dream Coat Supernatural Spray typically lasts up to three or four washes, meaning your hair will continue to look shiny and healthy even without excessive styling each time.
Some shoppers have found it slightly tricky to use at home, with one reviewer saying: 'I don't get it! I appreciate that 1000's of people have claimed this stuff is a game changer but I have tried this multiple times and I see no difference and feel no difference in my hair at all! For context I have highlighted thick wavy shoulder length hair I blow dry it 3/4 times a week and this does nothing for shine, minimising frizz or any of the things people have said they felt! I don't get it!'
However another explained: 'I think this could be quite hard for some to use as you have to dry your hair in a really specific way with it but if you can get the hang of it, this product is incredible. It leaves my hair feeling and looking smooth and sleek for multiple washes and I get compliments asking if I've had my hair done. If you struggle with frizz, try this!!'
Another agreed: 'Great product but have to hack how to use it for it to truly work - takes a lot of product but once you have the hang of it is great.'
Others raved about it, saying they'll never stop using it and it's made a dramatic difference to their hair, earning it almost 2,500 five star reviews at LookFantastic.

JoJo Siwa gives major update with Chris Hughes romance and talks wedding plans

JoJo Siwa has revealed that she is open to discussions about marriage after the relationship between her and Chris Hughes was finally confirmed after their CBB exit JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes' romance since leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house has been the main subject of discussion when it comes to reality TV relationships. And while at first they were keen to remain tight-lipped over their budding romance, it seems now the former Dance Moms star, 22, has opened up about the possibility of marriage. Singer JoJo has gushed that things are "going great" with Chris who she describes as her "favourite person in the world." ‌ And when grilled on marriage plans, JoJo said she had "so many thoughts" when it came to one day walking down the aisle with Chris. ‌ Before joining the Celebrity Big Brother house, JoJo publicly identified as a lesbian and was in a relationship with non-binary dancer Kath Ebbs, but has since revealed she identifies more with calling herself queer. When asked about the unfair scrutiny surrounding her sexuality, JoJo told TMZ:"The thing is, love is a beautiful rainbow and I think that the LGBTQIA+ community needs to remember that love is love and think the hate from within the community is something I've learned a lot from and I think that a lot of people get to grow from and I'm on of those people. "I think that again I can give you an example of love is love, you can be happy..." JoJo flew back to her home in America after spending time with Chris at his pad in the UK, where the couple finally confirmed their relationship. Last week, JoJo sent fans into a spiral after she announced she was postponing her US tour which was due to commence on July 10. ‌ The announcement was shared on the website and informed fans that the dates had been postponed and those who had bought tickets were to be refunded. Fans were then questioning if she was planning on a more permanent stay in the UK as the announcement teased that there would be more shows in Europe. ‌ This came just days after it was reported the star had been dropped by her record label Columbia. The website now reads: "I've got some news that breaks my heart to share... my US tour has to be postponed. I promise I'll be back before you know it to perform for all the beautiful people in the US!... Announcements will be coming soon, including some Europe shows!:)" It added: "Thank you so much for your understanding and support. I can't wait to see you all soon! To my Dream Guest VIPs, my team will be reaching out to you individually to plan something special. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase." ‌ Since being reportedly dropped by her label, JoJo was determined to continue with her music career and released her latest song Bulletproof on her own. According to The Sun, JoJo and Chris have also been in talks with ITV bosses surrounding the possibility of launching their own reality TV show. And things appear to be moving fast as it is being set to air on ITV2 later this year. A source told the publication: "It's still in the early stages but ITV really think they'd be amazing TV with their own show. Fans around the world are obsessed with their relationship and there are so many TikTok accounts devoted to their love story." They added: "Chris and JoJo are keen too, and while there is no deal signed yet, the talks have been really promising."

I told my date my sexual preferences and was immediately ghosted

I met Chris* on Facebook. He appeared in the 'people you may know section' and I sent a friend request. My first impression was that he was handsome, clean-cut, and had a cheeky smile. I'd been liking his posts here and there, then watching his stories too. We eventually progressed to talking via Facebook messenger and the banter was instant. He was flirtatious but never too much, and charming in a way that felt unpracticed. One day, I wrote a post saying that I would be going to the States for Pride, alongside a sexy photo, and straight away, Chris sent me a DM: 'Do I finally get to meet you?' He was coincidentally going to the same Pride. I replied: 'If you play your cards right!' I didn't think too much about him, as I knew there would be a lot of guys around. But when there, I found that I had a few nights where I wasn't hanging out with my friends. We ending up making dinner plans and I remember feeling excited in that teenage, stomach-flipping way that makes you overthink your outfit but still walk in pretending you didn't. He looked even better in person — soft-spoken but confident, and a subtle smile that made you feel like the only person in the room. We danced, drank, and talked lots – about politics, families, queer identity, bad dating stories, good ones, and the weird line between ambition and burnout. After going to a club, we walked aimlessly through the warm, and very humid streets. It was so romantic. We sat on a bench. Chris leaned in and we kissed. That's how the night ended — not in a bed, but on a bench, with the kind of kiss that makes you forget where you are. Back in my hotel room, I couldn't sleep. I replayed the whole evening in my head — the way he listened, the way he smelled, the way he said my name like he already knew me. I don't know what possessed me, but I sent him a photo. Not too explicit, but suggestive enough. I guess I wanted to keep the momentum going. I was still high off the date. Chris replied instantly with a fire emoji, then, 'You're seriously hot.' Then I decided to step up the flirtation. I sent him a picture of me in a jockstrap from behind showing my glutes. It was one of my favourite snaps to send. He replied, 'Why on earth have you sent me a photo of your ass?' And then came his question: 'So you top, right?' I hesitated, then replied honestly: 'I'm a bottom.' I waited for his response. Nothing. So, How Did It Go? is a weekly series that will make you cringe with second-hand embarrassment or ooze with jealousy as people share their worst and best date stories. Want to spill the beans about your own awkward encounter or love story? Contact Ten minutes went by. Thirty. An hour. I tapped his profile — still active. Still posting memes the next morning. Still watching my stories. But he never texted back. At first, I thought maybe something happened. Then I realised: I'd been ghosted — not for what I did, or didn't do, but for what I wasn't. Chris had just assumed I was a top. And when he found out I wasn't, he must have lost interest. This wasn't the first time it's happened either. People assume I top. And I get it. I lift. I'm broad-shouldered. I post gym selfies sometimes. And I'm Black. So there's a whole extra layer there — this cultural baggage, this hypersexualised, hypermasculine fantasy that gets projected onto me constantly. On apps, in DMs, even in the way people talk to me in real life. There's this assumption that I'm dominant, aggressive, always in control. I used to go along with it, thinking maybe that's what I should be. But the truth is, I feel most alive — most me — when I bottom. It took a while to unlearn the shame. To realise that sex isn't a performance, and masculinity isn't a position. I started opening up more — not just about what I liked, but about what I needed. Probably about three years after I met Chris, I started exploring being versatile. But not to please anyone else – to know myself better. To own my desires instead of tailoring them to someone else's expectations. Life now is… fuller. I've dated people who see me as a whole person, not just a category. And I've had to block a few people who still send 'you're too hot to bottom' messages like it's a compliment. Looking back, I don't hate Chris. I think he showed me something — some people just aren't made for you. We may be a match now that I top too, but choosing to ghost me rather than just have a conversation is not on. It's cowardly. More Trending Perhaps it was even a blessing in disguise that we never made it to the bedroom. Today, I can now say that I am 100% versatile – and I feel that I get the best of both worlds. For this reason, I am living my best and most authentic full life. And I want someone who appreciates every aspect of me – including a picture from behind in a jockstrap.
