Centre to consider Goa's demand for 24x7 ‘Drink from Tap' water supply project
New Delhi: Goa's demand for special assistance of ₹652.61 crore for providing 24x7 Drink from Tap (DfT) water supply project will be considered, central government officials said following a meeting between Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday.
Further, based on the demands made by Sawant and Goa's urban development minister Vishwajit Rane, Khattar asked MoHUA (ministry of housing and urban affairs) officials to make necessary policy changes in the tourist states to provide enhanced central government support under AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) 2.0 and SBM-U (Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban) 2.0 to better serve the significantly high volume of tourists.
Odisha's Puri, another tourism-dominated city, became the first in the country to provide 24x7 DfT in July 2021. Following this, the state government expanded the project in other urban centres.
In a government release, it was said that the Goa CM had also sought special financial assistance of ₹326.30 crore minimum for Water Source Augmentation, Infrastructure Development, Rehabilitation of Existing Network, pilot Drink-from-Tap projects including smart metering, IoT and SCADA-based monitoring systems to the State under AMRUT 2.0.
During their meeting, Khattar also advised the State to complete all pending work related to water supply (new/service tap connections and new/service sewer connections) under AMRUT; revision of action plan, expedite tendering work for toilets (community toilets, public toilets, aspirational toilets, urinals), Solid Waste Management, STP/co-treatment facilities under SBM, the government release added. The union minister also urged the CM to inform and educate citizens about PMAY-U (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban) 2.0 to get benefits of affordable housing; profile Street Vendors under PM SVANidhi (a microcredit facility for street vendors), clear eligible loan applications and increase women participation.

Engg exports rise 60% in a decade
New Delhi: India's engineering goods exports have surged by 60 per cent since 2014, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday. Highlighting the success of the 'Make in India' initiative, the Union Minister credited the steady rise in engineering exports to the government's focused efforts over the last decade. 'India on the rise! Since 2014, under @NarendraModi Govt., engineering goods' exports have surged by 60 per cent, reflecting robust 'Make in India' success,' Goyal posted on social media platform X. This rise in engineering exports comes at a time when India's broader industrial performance is also showing steady improvement. As per the earlier Ministry of Statistics data, industrial production in April 2025 grew by 2.7 per cent year-on-year (YoY). The manufacturing sector, a key pillar of India's economic growth, registered a 3.4 per cent rise in April, improving from 3 per cent growth in March. Sectors like basic metals, motor vehicles, and machinery were among the top contributors to this growth. The manufacture of machinery and equipment alone grew by 17 per cent, pointing to strong demand in both domestic and export markets. The production of capital goods -- equipment used in industrial and infrastructure projects -- saw a sharp 20.3 per cent rise. This not only signals higher investment activity but also supports long-term job creation and income growth. Consumer demand has also remained strong, with the output of durable goods such as electronics and appliances increasing by 6.4 per cent.

Mumbai, June 20 (UNI) Cooperation is the soul of India's way of life, said Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah in Mumbai on Friday. He was speaking at the 'Sahakar Se Samriddhi' National Symposium organized at Hotel Fairmont today. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil, Agriculture Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate and several others were present. Shah said that UN has declared 2025 as the 'International Year of Cooperatives'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a historic step by establishing a separate Ministry of Cooperatives in the country. Now the aim is to establish two lakh new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in the country, he said. He further said that information about cooperative societies in every village across the country has been collected through a digital database, and Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka have made remarkable achievements in the cooperative sector. PACS societies will now not be limited to agriculture alone but will operate in 22 new service sectors. These include Jan Aushadhi Kendras, gas distribution, petrol pumps, railway ticketing services, taxi services. In the 'National Taxi' initiative, the taxi drivers will be the owners of the vehicle and their profits will be deposited directly in their bank accounts, he said. This initiatives will create new employment opportunities for women and youth, and will boost the rural economy. The country is moving towards a new era of cooperation said Shah. Speaking on occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Maharashtra has successfully implemented various schemes in rural areas through PACS and FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations). These schemes have given a boost to employment generation and have provided a market chain to farmers. Maharashtra has fulfilled the objectives of the central government more efficiently, Fadnavis said. Shah: Govt intervention helped stop farmers' suicides in Maha
Mumbai: The govt's intervention by way of consistent investment in ensuring there will be no droughts has helped to stop farmer suicides in Maharashtra, Union home and cooperatives minister Amit Shah said on Friday. Shah was in Mumbai to address a national seminar on International Cooperatives Year, 2025, as well as inaugurate the headquarters of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. "When I started out in politics, farmers committing suicide in Maharashtra was a national discussion. Several commissions were set up, reports published, govts changed... The first Mahayuti govt implemented Jal Yukta Shivar Yojana and then the second was the Eknath Shinde govt and now the third govt.
