6 farmers killed in lightning strikes in Adilabad dist

Hyderabad: Even as farmers and agricultural labourers were busy in the fields with the onset of the sowing season, a series of lightning strikes on Thursday claimed six lives and injured 10 others across Adilabad district.
In a major incident at Pipri village in Gadiguda mandal, 14 farmers had taken shelter under a makeshift hut when it began to rain. Lightning struck the hut, killing four persons on the spot. The deceased were identified as P Madhavrao (45), Sanjana (22), M Bhimbai (40), and S Rambai (45). The 10 others who sustained injuries were initially rushed to a local govt hospital and later shifted to RIMS, Adilabad. The tragic incident plunged the village into grief.
Two more lightning-related fatalities were reported in separate incidents in Bela mandal. Nandini (30) was struck while working in an agricultural field in Sangidi village, while Sunitha (35) died in a similar incident in Sonkas village. Both the deceased were farmers.
In another lightning incident in Kummari thanda in Utnoor mandal, three members of a family—B Dhanraj (27), Nirmala (36), and T Krishnabai (30)—sustained burn injuries while taking shelter in a cattle shed during the rain.

Adilabad town also experienced heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding on several roads. According to official data, Narnoor mandal received 42.8 mm of rainfall from 6.30 am to 7 pm on Thursday. Chaprala in Bela mandal recorded 32.5 mm, and Heerapur in Indervelly mandal saw 31.5 mm.
District authorities have issued an advisory urging farmers and labourers to avoid taking shelter under trees, electricity poles, or under any other structures during storms.
