Ford Recalls 5 Different Models in 1 Day for 4 Separate Issues, Covering 285,000 Trucks & SUVs

Ford can't seem to stop issuing recalls, and May 9 was a particularly unlucky day for hundreds of thousands of Ford owners, as the Dearborn-based automaker issued four separate recalls for different issues. These recalls cover four models across the carmaker's pickup truck and SUV lineup, and are all focused on individual issues — but some of those issues are more serious than others.
The largest recall of the bunch pertains to 273,789 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator units from the 2022–2024 model years. These burly SUVs are prone to a loss of brake function due to leaking brake fluid, Ford explained in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Only 1% of the hundreds of thousands of units included in the recall are suspected to exhibit the issue, but those that do will likely experience longer than expected brake pedal travel or even a rapid loss of brake fluid. Naturally, this decreased braking ability increases the risk of a crash.
Ford says that the front brake line may have been bent during the engine installation process, causing varying degrees of fluid leakage, and that customers may receive a red brake warning light indicator prior to experiencing increased pedal travel. Either way, Ford says there have been no injuries or accidents related to this issue, though 45 warranty reports have been received. The remedy to such a drastic problem is surprisingly easy, with a front brake line inspection and replacement provided at no charge.
Next in line is Ford's bucking Bronco. A total of 2002 Bronco units from 2024 are being recalled over a minor issue with the child safety locks, according to filings with NHTSA. Ford says that the left side rear door may be opened from the inside even when the child safety lock is on, which obviously poses a problem for our notoriously curious toddler friends. The issue stems from a door flushness tolerance gap, which shifted the location of the left-hand rear door latch. Dealer technicians will first inspect the child safety locks and then potentially replace the rear door latch. Thankfully, Ford has not received any reports of injury from this problem.
But that's not all for the Bronco. Both the Bronco and Ranger pickup trucks were included in another recall for loose or missing driver's seat bolts. Only 46 units are being recalled, but it remains a worthwhile recall because, well, keeping your driver's seat in place is essential in the event of a crash. Also, the lack of bolts violates a portion of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, which automatically prompts a recall. It shouldn't be hard to guess what the remedy for this issue is, either, as Ford says dealers will simply check for four bolts before tightening or adding bolts.
Finally, a small crop of 2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks was recalled for loose fasteners on the lower intermediate shaft. A total of 9181 pickups were included in the recall, which stemmed from a manufacturing error where the lower intermediate shaft wasn't properly torqued to the steering gear and could potentially allow the shaft to come loose or even detach. Ford says that F-150 owners may hear a rattling noise from the steering wheel and experience excessive steering play prior to the most serious consequences of detachment. Again, the remedy is relatively easy, as dealer technicians will inspect the intermediate shaft fasteners and then tighten or replace the appropriate fasteners for no charge.
Save for the brake fluid issue, none of these recalls are too expansive, but they do represent a continuation of the consistent flow of recalls coming out of Dearborn. It seems Ford has honed its ability to limit the scope of these recalls thanks to production line monitoring systems, as exemplified by the 46-unit recall of Bronco and Ranger models — but the impact on customers remains no matter how small the group.

They were highly dependent on internal combustion engines and were either slow or reluctant to embrace EVs. A combination of tax credit rollbacks, emissions standards delays and the removal of the Biden Administration and its call for a 50% share for EVs in the new car market in 2030 is a boost for ICE. Manufacturers will also be busily raising production of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and extended range electric vehicles*. Consultants Roland Berger put it this way in a recent report. 'Delayed adoption of BEVs (EVs) will have cascading effects on the entire automotive value chain, prolonging profitability challenges for electrification-focused players and extending the window of opportunity for ICE-focused legacy players,' the report said. Analysts have been scrambling to slash their forecasts for U.S. EV sales in 2030. Investment bank UBS says EVs will only reach 24% of the new car market or 2.7 million vehicles. Four months ago UBS was predicting 32%. U.S. EV market share is currently around 10%. BloombergNEF now predicts 27%, down from almost 48%. Investment researcher Jefferies is even lower at about 20% along with Roland Berger. Roland Berger was projecting around 40% under Biden's watch. 'Actions taken by the Trump administration to loosen light vehicle emissions standards have effectively halved our forecast for U.S. electric vehicle adoption by 2030 – We now only expect about 20% BEV sales by 2030,' said Brandon Boyle, Senior Partner and Americas Automotive lead at Roland Berger. This compares starkly with Europe's ambitions. The European Union has decreed EV sales shall reach about 80% of new vehicle sales by 2030 on the way to 100% by 2035. MCQ Market says it is a FinTech firm making high-value assets accessible and investable. 'I wouldn't call it a comeback for ICE, but it's not going away overnight either. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are still very much part of the transition-especially for consumers who aren't quite ready for a full battery-electric experience. Expect those to play a meaningful but gradually shrinking role through the decade,' Hopkins said. Bernstein Research analyst Daniel Roeska said at some point EV demand will accelerate again. Maybe after the 2028 election or after 2030. 'It (the expectation) won't be 50% for a long while,' Roeska said in an interview. '(General Motors, Ford and Stellantis) agreed that U.S. electrification will take a lot longer. Even if the target picture of high EV share in the U.S. has not changed, (manufacturers) are waking up to the fact that they must improve EV profitability without significant volume growth and maintain investments into legacy products for longer,' Roeska said in a recent report. Hard to bet against Tesla Tesla is the current EV market leader and despite a huge increase in competition and lower expectations for the overall market, is expected to retain its ascendancy, said MCQ's Hopkins. 'It's hard to bet against Tesla. They're vertically integrated, have a dominant brand, and continue to lead on software and over-the-air updates. As long as they maintain that pace of innovation, they'll likely still be the U.S. leader in 2030,' said Hopkins. According to Kelley Blue Book , the Tesla Model Y led the U.S. EV market in 2024 with sales of 373,000 and a market share of 28.6%, the Tesla Model 3 was next with 190,000 (14.6%). Then came the Ford Mustang Mach-E with 52,000 or 4.0%. 'That said, keep an eye on some dark horses. Chinese automakers like BYD and NIO are getting serious about international expansion, and if trade policy allows, they could become a factor in the U.S. by the end of the decade.' In Europe, the reluctance was more ominous given the massive EV targets set for 2030. According to the survey, 41% said they would consider switching to an EV, down from 48% last year. Shell operates 75,000 charging points around the world including the U.S., Europe and China. *(Hybrids use computer power to combine for maximum efficiency with gasoline engines, and have relatively small batteries. They provide maybe 1 mile of electric-only driving. PHEVs have bigger batteries which can be charged independently and can provide up to 75 miles of electric-only transport. A new report examining tens of thousands of U.S. roads shows that some Dallas area highways rank among the deadliest in the country. Future Bail Bonds study examined data from 96,000 roads nationwide from 2019 to 2023. Three Dallas County highways ranked among the 150 deadliest roads in the country. The report leveraged the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data. I-30 was found to be the deadliest roadway in Dallas, recording 76 fatal wrecks during the examination period. Nationwide, it ranked 23rd overall in terms of fatalities and the fourth-deadliest in the state. This is not the first time I-30 has been included on a list of the most dangerous roads. Earlier this year, The Dallas Express detailed a report from that ranked the interstate the fifth worst for fatalities in 2022. According to the latest study, two other local roadways were listed among the top 150 deadliest. Loop 12 ranked No. 115 in the United States, registering 45 fatal wrecks between 2019 and 2023. I-635 was listed at No. 132 in the country, recording 43 crashes during that period. I-15 in San Bernardino County, California, which runs from Southern California to Las Vegas, was considered the deadliest road in the country. The roadway logged 196 fatal car crashes in the reporting period. Within Texas, I-45 in Houston had the highest number of fatal vehicle wrecks at 88. The roadway from Dallas to Galveston was considered the 16th deadliest in the nation. 'From 2019 to 2023, motor vehicle crashes claimed 186,284 lives across 96,257 roads in the United States, underscoring the persistent danger on American roadways,' the report said, per CultureMap Dallas. In 2024, the Dallas City Council passed a measure to lower the speed limit from 70 to 65 miles per hour on a portion of U.S. 75 Central Expressway that is considered particularly dangerous. As part of its Vision Zero plan, the city has targeted eliminating all traffic-related deaths and cutting severe injury crashes by 50% by the end of the decade.

Starting with the 2026 model year, RAM is doubling down on its comeback strategy by offering something no other full-size truck brand does: a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. That's right-twice the current coverage on gas-powered RAM trucks, and a full five years longer than what Ford and GM currently offer. It's not just the half-ton RAM 1500 that's getting the extra protection. The new warranty extends to heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 models, chassis cab trucks, and even the ProMaster commercial van. Buyers of the off-road-ready Power Wagon and high-performance RHO also qualify. The only real exclusions? Fleet buyers and the all-electric ProMaster EV. That means for individual buyers, whether purchasing or leasing, this warranty could be a serious reason to reconsider a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado. So why the sudden move? According to RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis, the answer is simple: consumer behavior has shifted. Today's truck buyers are financing over longer terms and holding onto their vehicles longer than ever-12.6 years on average. Yet no truck brand has changed their warranty to reflect that reality. "We think this gives people a real reason to switch," Kuniskis said. And he's not wrong. Truck buyers are famously brand-loyal, with roughly 75–80% sticking with the same make when they buy again. But loyalty can shift if one brand clearly takes better care of its owners-especially in the long haul. Offering a longer warranty also sends a strong message: RAM believes in the durability of its new powertrains. That includes the returning 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, now offered once again as an option on the 2026 RAM 1500, and the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six that debuted just last year. RAM is coming off a rocky year. The 2025 RAM 1500 launch hit production delays, early trims were priced too high, and removing the V-8 left a bad taste for longtime fans. But the brand is attempting to turn the page. Under new leadership, including Kuniskis' return from retirement, RAM has slashed prices, brought back the HEMI, and even announced a NASCAR comeback for 2026. The company has also rolled out a new marketing push with the tagline "Nothing Stops RAM". This warranty announcement isn't just a sales gimmick; it's part of a larger turnaround strategy designed to restore consumer confidence and boost conquest sales. Ford and Chevy now face a choice: match RAM's warranty or risk looking second-best in a segment where perception matters as much as specs. So far, neither has hinted at making a similar move. That leaves RAM as the sole brand offering a decade of peace of mind on core powertrain components: engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, and axles. And in a world where trucks now cost as much as some luxury cars, that could be a powerful differentiator. If Ford and GM aren't worried yet, they probably should be.
