The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has seen over 10 fresh faces walk through the doors of The Star, and one of them was running back Javonte Williams.

A four-year starter of the Denver Broncos, after a rookie season that saw him post 903 yards and four touchdowns in 2021, an ACL injury in 2022 set his trajectory back.
He would return in 2023 to rush for 774 yards and three touchdowns, but last season, despite leading Denver in rushing attempts (139) and yards (513), he was moved on.
The Broncos totaled 461 rushing attempts last season, ranking them 13th, and Williams (139) had to split carries with Jaleel McLaughlin (113 att, 496 yards, one touchdown) and Audric Estime (76 att, 310 yards, two touchdowns).
Now he's in Dallas, and NFL.com's Nick Shook thinks it's make-or-break time for Javonte.

"Williams fizzled out in Denver and ended up accepting a one-year, $3 million deal to headline Dallas' underwhelming backfield," Shook writes. "The sizzle he once brought to the Broncos faded before 2024, but he has a rare opportunity to regain it for a Cowboys team that should boast some offensive firepower, with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens at receiver. If Williams is going to command a starting job anywhere in the NFL from here on out, it must begin in Dallas."

Williams and fellow veteran Miles Sanders are seen as the top two candidates for the starting role, with Sanders, according to our own Mike Fisher, standing out at OTAs.
So Javonte will have a battle on his hands to work his way past Sanders, but in truth, given how Schottenheimer wants his offense to work, a multiple-back rotation will likely take place.

As for Williams, he has shown that he can be the leading man, and he must prove that he's past his ACL injury and ready to shoulder the load once again.
The running back room is one of the most fascinating to watch in Oxnard, and who will eventually take their spot atop the depth chart is anyone's guess.

49ers 3rd-Round Rookie Linebacker Suffers Fracture

49ers 3rd-Round Rookie Linebacker Suffers Fracture originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco 49ers have suffered an offseason injury as rookie linebacker Nick Martin fractured his thumb while lifting weights, as reported by Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle. Advertisement Early reports were that it was a recent injury, but Furtado clarified the situation on his X account. "Regarding rumors that #49ers third-round LB Nick Martin broke his thumb, he suffered a minor fracture a few weeks ago but did not miss any subsequent practices or workouts, per source. Martin won't need surgery and is expected to be fully healthy by training camp." It's notable that the thumb injury never sidelined Martin and he never missed any offseason practice time. He's expected to be fully ready for the beginning of training camp. The 22-year-old missed seven games of his final season at Oklahoma State with a knee injury, but he's expected to be a contributor in his rookie season after the 49ers drafted him in the third round with the No. 75 overall pick. Advertisement Martin's pick wasn't a surprise, as the team needed to address defense in the draft. Martin was a First-Team All-Big 12 standout who posted 140 tackles with 16 for loss last season, and should have an opportunity to crack the starting lineup early, as San Francisco doesn't have a ton of seasoned veterans at outside linebacker other than Fred Warner. If Martin proves he's healthy, he'll be fighting for playing time with Dee Winters, Tatum Bethune and others. But first, he could have to impress on special teams for defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. 49ers' Mustapha Appears Ahead of Schedule in Injury Recovery

49ers' Mustapha Appears Ahead of Schedule in Injury Recovery originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Malik Mustapha quickly became a valuable asset to the San Francisco 49ers defense last season as a rookie. Heading into 2025 where the Niners lost multiple starters in the secondary, Mustapha may be called on to produce even more. Advertisement Except ... he suffered a torn ACL in San Francisco's regular season finale. The team decided to keep the injury hushed until after the NFL Draft even though Mustapha had already underwent surgery. As the team wraps up minicamp, we have already seen glimpses of the former fourth-round pick in his rehab. Mustapha was reportedly in attendance for every OTA and minicamp session, and despite not being able to compete in team drills, was working diligently with the athletic training staff at practice. He is looking very strong in a video update posted to social media, leading us to believe he could be ahead of schedule in his recovery. Mustapha's surgically repaired right knee is just 21 weeks removed from operation. The Wake Forest product, who has already undergone a knee recovery in college, was seen pulling sleds and lifting weights seemingly with ease. Advertisement Although we would have liked to see some side-to-side movement and change of direction to fully gauge his strength, we'll take what we can get in signs of progress. Still, things look good at this stage of the offseason. Initial reports predicted Mustapha would start the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, meaning he would have to miss the first four games. If he keeps up this work, he could make a run at being fully healthy before Week 5 and return to manning the 49ers' secondary sooner than expected. That would be a major plus for a San Francisco roster that was plagued with injury all throughout last season. Advertisement The Niners didn't draft a safety this year until the fifth round in Marques Sigle. The rest of the defensive backfield is likely to include youngster Ji'Ayir Brown and free-agent grab Jason Pinnock. Losing All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga will sting if the 49ers can't find a suitable substitute before Mustapha recovers. By the looks of it, he is hoping the team won't have to wait long for his return. Surprise — Bears QB Caleb Williams Doesn't Like Packers Fans: 'They Suck'

It's no secret that the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears, as well as their respective fan bases, despise one another, as they hold the NFL record with 210 all-time matchups. And it appears that Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is fitting right into that vitriol. Speaking at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Friday, Williams said that Packers fans "suck," as shown in a video captured by Empire Sports Media. "After the game, after we won at Lambeau — 1-0 at Lambeau — we tried to do the Lambeau Leap, tried to jump into the crowd where our fans were," Williams said. "[Packers fans] just started throwing everything at you, push you off. The Lambeau Leap, it's a real leap. It's not a little baby jump, you actually have to high jump, basically. And they're pushing you, pushing your face." The Bears and Packers split their 2025 regular-season series, with both teams winning on the other's home turf. In Week 11, the Packers blocked a would-be game-winning, 46-yard field goal from Cairo Santos as time expired in the fourth quarter. Then, in Week 18, Santos made a 51-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter, which ended a 10-game losing streak on the season for the Bears, as well as an 11-game losing streak to the Packers and an eight-game losing streak at Lambeau Field. In Chicago's two games against Green Bay, Williams totaled a combined 379 passing yards, 80 rushing yards, one passing touchdown, zero interceptions and a 95.1 passer rating, while completing 73.3% of his passes. As for the season as a whole, Williams, who Chicago selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, totaled 3,541 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and an 87.8 passer rating, while completing 62.5% of his passes. He also rushed for 489 yards. Williams, who started all 17 games for the Bears, ranked 44th among quarterbacks with a 67.6 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Both of the Bears' and Packers' 2025 regular-season matchups will air on FOX, with the first game coming on Dec. 7 in Green Bay and the second game coming on Dec. 20 in Chicago.
