Podcaster MacGyver 'MacG' Mukwevho's comments about Minnie Dlamini sparked accusations of misogyny and prompted widespread condemnation, leading to a public apology.
Podcaster MacGyver 'MacG' Mukwevho has done an unexpected U-turn, publicly apologising to Minnie Dlamini after facing backlash for his offensive comments.
The controversy began in one of the episodes of Podcast and Chill when MacG and co-host Sol Phenduka discussed Dlamini's breakup with her ex-partner, Dr Brian Monaisa.
The conversation rapidly veered into controversial territory.
"Why can't she keep a man? There's got to be something wrong with her — maybe her c**chie smells or something," MacG said during the discussion, adding: "It happens, man, especially with the hot girls."
MacG's remarks quickly drew widespread backlash, with social media users, advocacy groups, TV channels like Moja Love, and even Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, condemning his behaviour and slamming him for using offensive language against women.
Letsike cautioned that such remarks go beyond being merely offensive, stating they amount to a form of online gender-based violence, as defined in South Africa's National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
'This incident is not a harmless joke or casual banter – it is a harrowing demonstration of online gender-based violence,' she said.
The deputy minister voiced her disgust, describing MacG actions as part of a recurring pattern of misogynistic behaviour. She further revealed that multiple women have reportedly initiated legal proceedings against him.
'Women cannot be reduced to vulgar slurs and the objectification of the female body, as this is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect and consequently violence,' she said.
Moja Love strongly condemned MacG's remarks, criticising his continued use of offensive language towards women. In a statement, the channel said, 'MacG's persistent use of derogatory language towards women, reducing them to vulgar slurs and objectifying their bodies is not just offensive, it is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect.' They added that such conduct has no place in society or the media, 'where voices should uplift, not degrade.'
Women For Change also condemned MacG's comments about Minnie Dlamini, describing them as 'misogynistic and degrading.' The organisation expressed that his remarks were 'not only vile and dehumanising but also reflect the deeply rooted toxic masculinity that continues to endanger and humiliate women in South Africa.'
Macg found himself in legal trouble before. In October 2024, he was hit with a R13 million lawsuit after spreading harmful rumours about amapiano artist Nkosazana Daughter.
During a past broadcast, MacG insinuated that Nkosazana Daughter had an affair with musician Master KG and claimed that her child was fathered by him, not her then-partner, Sir Trill.
MacG eventually apologised publicly after Nkosazana Daughter's family denied the claims, expressing regret for making assumptions based on a photo of the child. "We were wrong. She looks just like Sir Trill," he said in his apology. However, he also insisted that he had information from a 'credible source' claiming that Sir Trill was not financially supporting the child.
In the podcast episode that aired on May 12, MacG issued an apology to all the women offended by his comments about Minnie Dlamini, saying it was never his intention to upset anyone.
'I want to apologise first and foremost to all the female chillers and just women in general in South Africa that I might have offended with that comment, that was not the intention. You know, we never say things to offend people.'
He also invited Dlamini to join him on the show, saying she is 'more than welcome' to come on so they can 'squash it' once and for all.
'This thing started on the podcast, let's end it on the podcast. She said some things, I've said some things, let's squash it once and for all, bro,' said MacG.

Pretoria's Operation Shanela: 297 arrested in major crime crackdown
Multi-disciplinary efforts involving police, other government departments, and community policing forums led to the arrest of nearly 300 individuals as part of ongoing initiatives to combat crime in Pretoria this weekend. A coalition of various crime-fighting organisations resulted in the apprehension of 297 suspects for a range of offences, including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, bribery, and rape, according to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk. Captain van Dyk stated that Saturday's Operation Shanela specifically targeted the Hercules and Pretoria West policing precincts. 'A roadblock with two tactical teams was deployed across the Hercules and Pretoria West areas, resulting in the detention of 33 undocumented foreign nationals, who are currently being processed by immigration authorities,' he explained. During the operation, 544 individuals and 291 vehicles were searched, leading to 14 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. 'Targeted patrols were conducted at 41 identified crime hotspots, resulting in further arrests and the issuance of fines. This included one person arrested for public drinking, interfering with police duties, and resisting arrest, as well as one suspect found in possession of three zip-lock bags containing crystal meth,' van Dyk added. Traffic enforcement units issued 19 AARTO infringement notices, totalling R13,500 in fines. Liquor compliance inspections were carried out at 12 establishments, resulting in the closure of seven for non-compliance. A total of 272,310 ml of alcohol and 17 cartons of illegal cigarettes were confiscated. Counterfeit Gucci and Louis Vuitton: Another massive confiscation in Durban
A container possibly transporting counterfeit goods was seized by authorities in April, with the Hawks confirming suspicions last week. Authorities have confirmed the contents of a shipping container at Durban harbour were loaded with counterfeit brands. Port inspectors executed a search warrant at the Roseburg container depot last week, following a two-month investigation. No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is still ongoing. R13 million in counterfeit goods Police first intercepted the container in April, after which samples were taken for analysis by representatives of the brand. The items in the container ranged from high-end clothing brands to electronics and even toothpaste, with a total value of just over R13 million. 'Brand attorneys subsequently confirmed that the inspected merchandise contained a broad array of counterfeit products bearing well-known brand names,' confirmed Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Sibu Ncane. The brands in the container included Adidas, Nike, Samsung, Steve Madden, Colgate, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more. Head of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Lesetja Senona, thanked the investigators for their hard work. 'The discovery and confiscation of these counterfeit items represent a significant step forward in the fight against intellectual property infringement and the proliferation of counterfeit goods,' stated the Major General. Unlocking economic potential Parliament recently heard how the influx of imported counterfeit goods was placing a strain on the textile industry in South Africa. Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams stated that limiting illicit imports was crucial in creating a market for small, legal traders in townships and rural areas. 'Working together with organisations against counterfeit goods, we will soon announce a partnership with a campaign to fight the proliferation of counterfeit goods in our country,' said Ndabeni-Abrahams. Chairperson of the Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade, Sonja Boshoff, added that not prioritising the industry was failing to transform rural areas. 'The most promising ways to achieve this are by revitalising our clothing and textile industries, which have the power to transform these communities into thriving centres of economic activity,' stated Boshoff.
