Krishna district leads in PHC, UPHC performance rankings

Vijayawada: The combined Krishna district topped all 13 erstwhile districts in Andhra Pradesh in providing health and medical care services to the general public through primary healthcare centres (PHCs) and urban primary healthcare centres (UPHCs).
It was followed by Vizianagaram and Prakasam districts, while Anantapur district stood a distant last.
The three remaining districts in the Rayalaseema region—Kurnool, Kadapa, and Chittoor, also remained at the bottom of the PHC and UPHC performance rankings. These rankings were announced during a review meeting chaired by
health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav
with DMHOs and DCHSs at his chamber in the secretariat at Velagapudi on Tuesday. The rankings were based on an internal assessment conducted by the health department.
Besides expressing concern over the poor performance in rendering healthcare services at PHCs and UPHCs in the Rayalaseema districts, Satya Kumar also highlighted the negligible performance of secondary hospitals in the region. He noted that three out of seven districts with low surgery rates at secondary hospitals belonged to Rayalaseema. The three districts with lowest surgery rates at secondary hospitals were Anantapur (10%), Kurnool (10%) and Tirupati (24%).

Meanwhile, with 42% surgery rates, Chittoor district performed comparatively better than the remaining districts in the region.
In addition, the health minister pointed out that secondary hospitals in the Rayalaseema region also lagged in the utilisation of healthcare services under the Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Trust Scheme. Only three percent of surgeries were performed under the scheme, while the highest combined average of surgeries done under the free treatment scheme at secondary hospitals in the Rayalaseema districts stood at approximately 25%.
He further noted that the number of maternal deliveries performed at secondary hospitals in the Rayalaseema districts remained low.
Against this backdrop, Satya Kumar directed the concerned officials to initiate appropriate measures to increase the maternal birth rate and the number of surgeries performed under the Vaidya Seva Scheme at secondary hospitals in the Rayalaseema districts.
Furthermore, the health minister flagged several irregularities by DMHOs in discharging their duties and raised serious concerns over allegations that health department offices were becoming centres of corruption.
In this regard, Satya Kumar proposed the transfer of second-rung officials working in DMHO offices to curb irregularities in the health and medical departments. He further proposed a graded review performance system for DMHOs, to be conducted twice a year.

Andhra Pradesh: Over 7k medical staff transferred to new positions in first phase of transfers
VIJAYAWADA: A total of 7,099 medical staff were transferred to new positions as part of the first phase of transfers under the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department, which concluded on Friday. Of these, around 5,200 employees were compulsorily transferred after completing five years of service in their existing posts, while another 1,899 were moved based on personal requests submitted by the employees. The State government is now preparing for the second phase of transfers, which will cover 9,650 Grade-3 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) working at the village level. These transfers are scheduled to be completed by June 30, as they require coordination with the village and ward secretariat departments to ensure its smooth implementation. Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav expressed satisfaction over the transparent and dispute-free execution of the transfers of the employees. He appreciated the efforts of department officials and said the process was conducted strictly in accordance with established rules and guidelines, unlike previous years when transfer exercises were surrounded by controversy and allegations of irregularities.

Monitoring officer reviews key civic projects in Agasteeswaram taluk
Kanniyakumari District Monitoring Officer Hanish Chabbra inspected the ongoing development works at Agasteeswaram taluk on Thursday. He conducted the inspection in the presence of Kanniyakumari Collector R. Alagumeena, Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner Nishant Krishna and other officials from the district administration. The Monitoring Officer reviewed various sites, including Urban Primary Health centres (UPHCs), corporation's dump yard, coastal hamlets and other development works of the Nagercoil Municipal Corporation. During his visit to the UPHC in Krishnancoil area, he inquired about the availability of doctors and essential medicines at the centre. The department officials were asked about tests for non communicable disease, including high blood pressure and diabetes, under the scheme 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam'. He also visited Valampuraivilai dump yard, located in the heart of a residential area, an issue of critical concern for the city. Everyday tonnes of wastes from households, hotels and markets under the Corporation limits are being dumped at the site. He directed the Corporation officials to give precedence to public health with bio mining and other waste processing activities at the yard, particularly due to close proximity of residential areas, hospitals and markets. He also instructed the Corporation officials to expedite installation of suction systems at the Underground Drainage System facilities at the Pattasalianvilai. He also inspected the construction of 500 metre sea wall along the coastal road of Pottal-Puthanthurai-Pallamthurai at a cost of ₹2.81 crore and the construction of an overhead tank at Thengamputhoor being developed under the AMRUT scheme at a cost of ₹64.68 crore. The tank with a capacity of around 3 lakh litres will benefit 11,049 households in the area that were added recently to the Nagercoil Municipal Corporation limits.

‘Yogandhra' reflects cultural richness of India: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister
VIJAYAWADA: The State government's ambitious Yogandhra Festival, held to promote yoga as a way of life, concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony at Tummalapalli Kshetraiah Kalakshetram on Wednesday. Organised as part of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations, the event featured cultural programmes, patriotic tributes, and recognition of excellence in yoga. Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav said Yogandhra reflects India's cultural heritage and aims to embed yoga into everyday life. Applauding the winners as the torchbearers of yoga's future, he revealed that 526 participants competed across 42 events in 15 categories, with 193 emerging victorious. Among them, 38 participants hailed from tribal districts Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam. The Minister credited PM Narendra Modi's global advocacy for the widespread adoption of yoga in 175 countries and praised AP for surpassing its participation target, recording over 2.3 crore Culture, and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh called Yogandhra a movement beyond International Yoga Day. He noted yoga's growing global reach, especially in Europe, and praised the Prime Minister as yoga's global ambassador. AYUSH Director Dr K Dinesh Kumar said over 4 lakh students participated in village-level competitions, with 526 advancing to the State level. The winners will perform in Visakhapatnam on June 21 in the Prime Minister's presence. Secondary Health Director A Siri lauded the transparency and scale of the competition.
