‘Yogandhra' reflects cultural richness of India: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister

VIJAYAWADA: The State government's ambitious Yogandhra Festival, held to promote yoga as a way of life, concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony at Tummalapalli Kshetraiah Kalakshetram on Wednesday. Organised as part of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations, the event featured cultural programmes, patriotic tributes, and recognition of excellence in yoga. Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav said Yogandhra reflects India's cultural heritage and aims to embed yoga into everyday life. Applauding the winners as the torchbearers of yoga's future, he revealed that 526 participants competed across 42 events in 15 categories, with 193 emerging victorious. Among them, 38 participants hailed from tribal districts Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam. The Minister credited PM Narendra Modi's global advocacy for the widespread adoption of yoga in 175 countries and praised AP for surpassing its participation target, recording over 2.3 crore Culture, and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh called Yogandhra a movement beyond International Yoga Day. He noted yoga's growing global reach, especially in Europe, and praised the Prime Minister as yoga's global ambassador. AYUSH Director Dr K Dinesh Kumar said over 4 lakh students participated in village-level competitions, with 526 advancing to the State level. The winners will perform in Visakhapatnam on June 21 in the Prime Minister's presence. Secondary Health Director A Siri lauded the transparency and scale of the competition. NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha said Yogandhra is a movement shaped by the leadership of the PM and CM, and proudly noted the district's record-setting floating yoga performance. The event featured a moving tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in Operation Sindoor, followed by a two-minute silence and a stirring performance by Amaravati Yoga and Aerobics. Students demonstrated 'Pragya Yoga – Art of Living,' enriching the spiritual atmosphere of the ceremony.

Vijayawada: As many as 193 individuals emerged as winners in the State Level Yoga Competitions, held across 42 themes in 15 categories over three days from June 16 to June 18 in Vijayawada. Health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, rourism minister Kandula Durgesh, Ayush director K Dinesh Kumar, secondary health director Dr A Siri, and NTR district collector presented the prizes to the winners at the awards ceremony organised at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The three-day state level yoga competitions featured categories such as the Surya Namaskar Challenge, Yoga Skit, Yoga Quiz, Yoga Essay, Yoga Short Film, Yoga Photography, Yoga Painting, Yoga Song, and Yoga Display. Speaking on the occasion, minister Yadav said that yoga is a rich cultural heritage of India. The govt, aiming to make yoga an integral part of people's lives and raise awareness about its benefits, is organising a month-long Yogandhra awareness initiative in the state. He said the winners of the State Level Yoga Competition will perform yoga asanas alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the International Yoga Day celebrations, which will be held at RK Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on June 21. Times of India senior photojournalist G Mahesh won the first prize in the senior category of the State Level Yoga Photography competition. Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, Kandula Durgesh, and Lakshmisha presented the award to Mahesh during the awards ceremony.

GUNTUR: Health and Family Welfare Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav launched the IEC (Information, Education & Communication) material of STOP Diarrhoea Campaign-2025 in Tenali of Guntur district on Sunday. It includes posters, banners and other awareness tools. The event was attended by District Medical & Health Officer K Vijayalakshmi, District Immunisation Officer A Shravan Babu, and other health officials. The Government of Andhra Pradesh, in coordination with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has launched the campaign to reduce the burden of childhood diarrhoea and prevent related deaths. The campaign will be implemented from June 16 to July 31, 2025, targeting over 34.56 lakh children under the age of five across the State. It aims to promote preventive care, timely treatment, and hygiene awareness, particularly among marginalised communities.

Vijayawada: Health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav launched the 'Stop diarrhoea' campaign, aiming to address the high incidence of childhood diarrhoea and prevent diarrhoea-related deaths by promoting effective preventive measures, timely treatment, and improved sanitation and hygiene practices. Yadav unveiled the 'Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025' poster, which will be implemented from June 16 to July 31, in coordination with the ministry of health & family welfare, govt of India, in the state. The health minister said, the State targets to reach over 34.6 lakh children through door-to-door distribution of ORS packets and zinc tablets by ASHAs and ANMs, setup of ORS-zinc corners at health & wellness centres, AWCs, and village secretariats, water tank cleaning, quality testing, and intensified Rotavirus vaccination. The campaign also includes school-based awareness drives, Anganwadi outreach, and reinforcement of hygiene practices. Yadav emphasised that this mission aligns with the vision of a healthy and happy Andhra Pradesh, integrating efforts across departments including women & child welfare, education, and rural development.

GUNTUR: Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday urged the youth to regularly donate blood to address shortages. Speaking at World Blood Donor Day celebrations organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in Guntur, the minister highlighted that despite technological advancements, there is no substitute for human blood. He commended the Red Cross for its crucial role in supplying safe and quality blood, especially during emergencies. The minister noted that 20 blood centres in the State currently meet 20% of Andhra Pradesh's total blood requirements by supplying approximately one lakh units annually. On the occasion, AP Red Cross Society State Chairman YD Rama Rao outlined plans for more transfusion centres and free HPV vaccination programmes for girls. General Secretary AK Parida announced 'Mee Intiki Mee Doctor,' a major outreach initiative bringing medical care to seven new districts with support from REC Limited. The event concluded with the presentation of Karl Landsteiner Awards, pioneer of blood transfusion, ceremony.
