'Don't Think There Will Be Any Medal Given': Sunil Gavaskar Lashes At India's Sloppy Fielding, Namedrops Yashasvi Jaiswal
India found them in a trick situation after the end of second day's play where England ended the day scoring 209/3. The scoreboard tells half the story as the three wicket column could have very well be five or six wickets too if Indian fielders complimented Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling. India's Legendary batter slammed Indian fielders for their fielding also name dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal. England ended India's inning for 471 taking their last 7 wickets for mere 41 runs. India in response started well dismissing Zak Crawley's wicket but Ollie Pope's robust century and Ben Duckett's counterattacking half century turned out to be a threat for India. Three Missed Opportunities India was very sloppy on the field on their first day of fielding in a long test match series of 5 matches. The shoulders kept falling and the body language seemed disappointing. The Indian fielders left three catches with Yashasvi Jaiswal dropping two. Jaiswal first dropped Duckett's catch in the fifth over and then he dropped down Pope's catch that is proving to be costly as of now. Ravindra Jadeja who is considered to be one of the best fielders of the world also dropped an easy catch of Duckett in the seventh over. Gavaskar took a jibe at the time stating there will be no fielding medals given this time. Slamming the Indian fielders while commentating he said - "I don't think there will be any medal given. T Dillip gives those after a match. This is what was really very, very disappointing. Yashasvi Jaiswal is a very good fielder but he hasn't been able to hold on to anything this time". Lone Warrior Jasprit Bumrah was the only bowler that looked deadly and could take wicket on the second day as he took 3 wickets for 48 runs in 13 overs. Rest of the Indian bowlers - Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja looked out of sorts and skills. England is currently trailing by 261 runs, Day 3 is always considered as the moving day and it can very well set the picture of an Indian win or an England defeat vice-versa.

IND vs ENG: 'Knee in a mess, scars all over face' - Former India coach recalls Rishabh Pant's horrific car accident
India's Rishabh Pant, right, celebrates after scoring a century on day two of the first cricket test match between England and India at Headingley in Leeds, England, Saturday, June 21, 2025, (AP Photo/Scott Heppell) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri praised Rishabh Pant 's remarkable innings of 134 runs off 178 balls against England in the opening Test at Leeds on June 22. Pant's innings, featuring 12 fours and six sixes, included unconventional shots and a celebratory somersault after reaching his century. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter achieved his seventh Test century, marking his second since recovering from a severe car crash in late 2022. Pant showcased his unique batting style, including a 'falling paddle' shot and reached his century with a one-handed six over mid-wicket off spinner Shoaib Bashir. India lose momentum on Day 2 | England Fight Back at Headingley "Outrageous. He plays the numbers game beautifully, plays the way he wants. He will block for a bit and then shift gears," Shastri said on Sky Sports. "He has his own computer and only he knows how it works. That's his USP. That's what puts bowlers under pressure and makes him box office, a real entertainer and a match winner," Shastri elaborated about Pant's approach. Shastri reflected on Pant's recovery from the accident, explaining the significance of his celebration. "That's why there was that celebration. Thanking the man upstairs for giving him the opportunity." "I think his recovery from that accident had a lot to do with the frame of his body and being mid-20s. When I saw him in hospital, it wasn't a pretty sight. Knee in a mess, scars all over the face, bruises all over the body," Shastri added. Former Surrey and Sussex batter Ian Ward, while commentating for Sky Sports, praised Pant's performance. "This fella is box office. One of the great entertainers and one of the best hundred celebrations I have seen. He's a character, this boy." The innings also impressed Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar , who had previously criticized Pant's shot selection during the Australia series. After witnessing Pant's performance in Leeds, Gavaskar repeatedly said "superb, superb, superb." The unorthodox batter's performance at Headingley demonstrated his recovery and return to form, entertaining the crowd with his distinctive batting style and memorable celebration. 'It was a hell of an over, watching Jasprit do his thing': Ben Duckett on Bumrah's fiery opening spell against England Mohammed Siraj bowled much better after an expensive start and came close to getting a breakthrough, while Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur simply couldn't provide much support and leaked runs throughout the course of the day. Bumrah gave India the perfect start by getting rid of Zak Crawley in the very first over of the English innings. He later broke the solid partnership between Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett by dismissing the latter on 62 before accounting for the huge wicket of Joe Root shortly before stumps. 'Sooja diya hai yaar isne maar-maar ke, same jagah maare ja raha hai (He's swollen my knee hitting me repeatedly in the same spot!),' Pant told Jadeja, referring to pacer Josh Tongue hitting him repeatedly on the knee. As for the weather forecast for Leeds on Sunday, Accuweather expects an overcast day in the city with a 'couple of showers' in the afternoon. Meaning the pacers will continue getting help on the 'Moving Day' and play might get interrupted a couple of times, but shouldn't result in a substantial delay. Play was briefly held up some time after lunch on the second day, delaying the start of the English innings after India were bowled out for 471. 'Rishabh Pant is someone who makes his own plans. He decides how to play and then he goes for it. This innings was a little different than what you normally see from him. But that's his plan. Just because he plays aggressive cricket doesn't mean he cannot play defensive,' India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said at the press conference after the second day's play, in which the wicketkeeper-batter brought up his seventh Test hundred. ( READ MORE India vs England, 1st Test LIVE Score: Team India will be aiming to put up a much better bowling display on Sunday as they eye a sizeable first innings lead over England on Day 3 of the first Test in Headingley. England had ended the second day on 209/3, trailing India's first innings total of 471 by another 262 runs, with Ollie Pope still going strong on 100, having brought up his second consecutive century. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball among the Indians on Saturday, collecting all three wickets, including that of Zak Crawley in the very first over, and ending the day with figures of 13-2-48-3. He could have accounted for more wickets had chances not been dropped off his bowling during the course of the day. India suffer dramatic batting collapse on Day 2 Earlier, India had suffered a dramatic collapse on either side of the lunch interval on Day 2, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs to get bowled out for 471. This was after Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in bringing up a century on good batting strip at Headingley, going past MS Dhoni as the Indian wicketkeeper with most Test centuries in the process. India were 430/3 with Gill and Pant at the crease, with 600 looking very much within reach. The former's dismissal, off Shoaib Bashir's bowling, however, opened the floodgates. Pacers Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the pick of the bowlers with four wickets each for 66 and 86 runs respectively.
