'It was a hell of an over, watching Jasprit do his thing': Ben Duckett on Bumrah's fiery opening spell against England
Mohammed Siraj bowled much better after an expensive start and came close to getting a breakthrough, while Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur simply couldn't provide much support and leaked runs throughout the course of the day.
Bumrah gave India the perfect start by getting rid of Zak Crawley in the very first over of the English innings. He later broke the solid partnership between Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett by dismissing the latter on 62 before accounting for the huge wicket of Joe Root shortly before stumps.
'Sooja diya hai yaar isne maar-maar ke, same jagah maare ja raha hai (He's swollen my knee hitting me repeatedly in the same spot!),' Pant told Jadeja, referring to pacer Josh Tongue hitting him repeatedly on the knee.
As for the weather forecast for Leeds on Sunday, Accuweather expects an overcast day in the city with a 'couple of showers' in the afternoon. Meaning the pacers will continue getting help on the 'Moving Day' and play might get interrupted a couple of times, but shouldn't result in a substantial delay.
Play was briefly held up some time after lunch on the second day, delaying the start of the English innings after India were bowled out for 471.
'Rishabh Pant is someone who makes his own plans. He decides how to play and then he goes for it. This innings was a little different than what you normally see from him. But that's his plan. Just because he plays aggressive cricket doesn't mean he cannot play defensive,' India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said at the press conference after the second day's play, in which the wicketkeeper-batter brought up his seventh Test hundred. India vs England, 1st Test LIVE Score: Team India will be aiming to put up a much better bowling display on Sunday as they eye a sizeable first innings lead over England on Day 3 of the first Test in Headingley. England had ended the second day on 209/3, trailing India's first innings total of 471 by another 262 runs, with Ollie Pope still going strong on 100, having brought up his second consecutive century.
Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball among the Indians on Saturday, collecting all three wickets, including that of Zak Crawley in the very first over, and ending the day with figures of 13-2-48-3. He could have accounted for more wickets had chances not been dropped off his bowling during the course of the day.
India suffer dramatic batting collapse on Day 2
Earlier, India had suffered a dramatic collapse on either side of the lunch interval on Day 2, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs to get bowled out for 471.
This was after Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in bringing up a century on good batting strip at Headingley, going past MS Dhoni as the Indian wicketkeeper with most Test centuries in the process.
India were 430/3 with Gill and Pant at the crease, with 600 looking very much within reach. The former's dismissal, off Shoaib Bashir's bowling, however, opened the floodgates. Pacers Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the pick of the bowlers with four wickets each for 66 and 86 runs respectively.

Jadeja-Sai Sudharsan Take Brilliant Relay Catch To Dismiss Jamie Smith
Last Updated: Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan's relay catch dismissed Jamie Smith on 40 in the first Test against England at Headingley. Star India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Sai Sudharsan on Sunday, June 22, teamed up for a relay catch in the deep to dismiss a well-set Jamie Smith on 40 in the first Test of the five-match series against England at Headingley. Prasidh Krishna was able to get the breakthrough in the last over with the old ball in the second session of the match. Smith was looking in full flow after the lunch break, continuing from where he left off. He scored a four off Krishna in the first over of the session and took him on off the first delivery of his next over too. Smith went for a pull shot once again off the next ball, but missed contact. India appealed for caught behind and went on to lose a review as the ball was miles away from the bat. Jadeja, at deep square leg, came into play after Smith smacked the next shot. He ran backwards and completed the catch, but the job wasn't done yet. Smith departed after scoring 40 runs off 52 balls, which included five boundaries and a six. Earlier, Harry Brook went on the offensive against an inconsistent Indian pace attack, taking England to 327/5 at lunch on day three of the first Test in Headingley. Resuming at an overnight 209/3, Brook (57 batting off 77) ensured that England scored at a brisk pace, totalling 118 runs in 28 overs. They still trail India by 144 runs. The visitors got two welcome wickets of overnight centurion Ollie Pope (106 off 137) and England skipper Ben Stokes (20 off 52). Like day two, the trio of Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj couldn't match the accuracy of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Brook, dismissed off a Bumrah no-ball at the stroke of stumps on day two, was dropped by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant on 46 before lunch.

Bumrah reached this milestone with a phenomenal five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/83 in 24.4 overs at an economy rate of 3.36. It was another near-lone-warrior effort from India's ace as he dismantled England's middle and lower order with unrelenting precision. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! This marked Bumrah's 10th five-wicket haul in SENA nations, making him the first Indian bowler to achieve this feat. IND vs ENG 1st Test: Jasprit Bumrah's 5/83 takes Indian pacer on level with legendary Kapil Dev; check complete list
Jasprit Bumrah added feather to his hat as the India pacer went on level with legendary Kapil Dev for most five-wicket hauls in Tests in away conditions on Sunday. Bumrah achieved the feat during England's first innings in Leeds as his 5/83 restricted England to 465 all out, thus giving India a slender six-run lead. Leading the Indian pacer attack, Bumrah had taken the first three England wickets on Day 2. However, it was more of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj on the third day who took five wickets among them. Bumrah's last two wickets came towards the end of English innings, dismissing Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue to achieve the feat. With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah went atop the leaderboard for most Test fifers in away games, on level with legendary Kapil Dev. Both Bumrah and Kapil sit on 12 five-wicket hauls each on overseas conditions, followed by Anil Kumble (10), Ishant Sharma (9), Zaheer Khan (8) and Irfan Pathan (7). Player Matches 5-wicket hauls Jasprit Bumrah 34 12 Kapil Dev 66 12 Anil Kumble 61 10 Ishant Sharma 63 9 Zaheer Khan 54 8 Irfan Pathan 15 7 Earlier, Harry Brook missed on a well-deserved hundred after falling for 99 off Prasidh Krishna, straight to Shardul Thakur at deep backward square leg. Jamie Smith made 40. England was 398/7 at that point, trailing by 73 runs, and India would have expected to wrap up the tail with the new ball only five overs old. But fast bowling allrounder Chris Woakes and No. 9 batter Brydon Carse smashed India for 55 runs off 44 balls as they feasted on pacers Mohammed Siraj, Krishna and Thakur. Carse was finally bowled by Siraj on 22 off 23 balls in his first home test. Woakes was bowled by Bumrah on 38, his best test score in nearly a year. Bumrah also got No. 10 Josh Tongue on 11 to finish the innings and achieve his 14th Test five-for.
