HYDERABAD: Among the many yoga styles gaining popularity in Hyderabad, Iyengar Yoga is steadily rising for its focus on alignment, safety, and therapeutic benefits.
Developed by BKS Iyengar, the style uses props like blocks, belts, bolsters, and backbending rods to enhance postures and prevent injuries.
Zarna Mohan, one of the few certified Iyengar Yoga teachers in Hyderabad, said interest in the practice has grown over the past decade.
'Ten years ago, only 10 to 12 people attended sessions. Now, over 100 practise regularly,' she said. 'People come to learn how it helps with knee issues and even cancer rehabilitation.'
Its therapeutic value has drawn athletes, as the style aids in building core strength. 'Iyengar Yoga is anatomy-oriented and backed by science,' said Ramya Pastakia of a studio in Himayatnagar. 'People realise correct alignment is key to a true yoga experience.'
