Report: Nets could be Kuminga sign-and-trade destination for Warriors
Report: Nets could be Kuminga sign-and-trade destination for Warriors originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Jonathan Kuminga's future with the Warriors quickly has become cloudy after recently falling out of coach Steve Kerr's rotation.

If a divorce occurs this offseason, NBA contributor Marc Stein reported in his latest Substack that the Brooklyn Nets could be a potential landing spot for the 22-year-old forward, who will be a restricted free agent this summer.
'The Brooklyn Nets have long loomed as a potential suitor that the Warriors have been monitoring given the Nets' projected cap space,' Stein wrote. 'Brooklyn's true level of interest remains to be seen, but Kuminga could not come to terms with Golden State last fall when he was seeking a contract higher than the $30 million in average annual salary that went to fellow Class of 2021 first-round draftees Jalen Suggs (Orlando) and Jalen Johnson (Atlanta).
'The Nets, at present, are projected to be the only team with $40 million in salary cap space this summer, theoretically positioning them to mount a firm Kuminga pursuit if they wish. That lack of abundant cap space has led various team strategists this week to suggest that a sign-and-trade could be the ultimate mechanism that delivers the former No. 7 pick out of the Bay Area come July.'
Stein also reported, citing league sources, that Kerr and other Warriors decision-makers have been hoping for more development from Kuminga since selecting him No. 7 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Kuminga hasn't played in Golden State's last three games, but in 47 contests (10 starts) this season, he averaged 15.3 points on 45.4 percent shooting, with 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes.
He played some of the best basketball of his career from late December through early January before suffering an ankle injury that kept him off the floor for two months. And after Golden State acquired six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler, Kerr admitted it's been difficult to find a rotational fit for Kuminga.
Draymond Green expressed confidence that Kuminga would get some action during Golden State's current first-round playoff matchup with the young and athletic Houston Rockets. Kuminga was a DNP in Game 1, and how this series unfolds could be telling for his future with the team.
Kuminga and the Warriors attempted to work out an extension entering the 2024-25 season, but both sides weren't able to reach an agreement before last October's deadline. Brooklyn finished the regular season 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 26-56 record and is focused on building toward the future. The Nets have the financial flexibility to pry Kuminga away from the Warriors.

Given Kuminga's restricted status, Golden State will have the opportunity to match any offer that the forward receives in free agency. But what could that look like? Only time will tell.

Game 7 memories from stars and celebs: Kobe Bryant stands out
Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night had a number of sports celebrities — from outside the basketball world, even — thinking of one player. Kobe Bryant. Bryant played in only one Game 7 of a finals, that coming in 2010, but for plenty in the sports world his 23-point, 15-rebound effort that led the Los Angeles Lakers to an 83-79 win over the Boston Celtics for his fifth and final championship still stands out as the quintessential moment from ultimate games. The NBA asked celebrities and star athletes what Game 7 makes them think of, and some of the responses got right to the point. 'Kobe,' soccer legend David Beckham said. 'What do I think?? I think Lakers 2010 — Pau (Gasol) and Kobe," tennis star Carlos Alcaraz said. Another tennis great, Novak Djokovic, said he thought of Lakers-Celtics in 2010 and the Cleveland-Golden State finale where LeBron James and Kyrie Irving came up big late for the Cavaliers in 2016. 'I'm thinking about electric atmosphere on the stands, no one is seated for the whole game,' Djokovic said. 'I'm thinking about Kobe and Gasol stellar performance in Game 7 of 2010 Lakers-Celtics and I'm thinking about LeBron's block and Irving's 3 pointer to seal the deal for Cavs vs Warriors Game 7 in 2016 thriller.' Cavs-Warriors 2016 another memory Part of the lore of the Cleveland-Golden State finale in 2016 wasn't just James getting a chase-down block against the Warriors' Andre Iguodala in the final moments. It was also ABC announcer Mike Breen's description of the call. Tennis player Ben Shelton and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua both remembered Breen's line perfectly: 'Blocked by James,' they both responded. Other quotes A selection of other responses collected by the NBA: 'Where legends are born.' — tennis' Frances Tiafoe. 'This is basketball, the game that everybody wants to watch. Can't wait !!!!!!!' — soccer star Kylian Mbappé. ''All eyes.' It's my stage.' — Colorado football coach and former NFL and MLB star Deion Sanders. 'GOAT TIME.' — NFL legend Jerry Rice. 'When I hear the words Game 7, I automatically think of the epic and legendary 3-pointer that Ray Allen made in Game 6 to force Game 7, where my Miami Heat team went on to win the NBA Finals championship.' — rapper Flo Rida. 'It's About to Go Down!!! Who will become legend? MJ, Kobe, Bron ... who's next?' — Cedric the Entertainer. 'Control what you can control mentality! I just wanted to make sure I did all the little things for my team.' — Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade. 'Everything you ever worked on and worked for is all in this one moment. Take it play by play ... leave it all on the court.' — former Heat guard Mario Chalmers. 'Play into the emotion. Don't expect fair. Expect the unimaginable.' — Cleveland's Iman Shumpert, part of the 2016 Cavs win. ___ AP NBA: recommended

Nets FA Cam Thomas likely to sign deal worth $25 million annually
The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of decisions to make this offseason as they seek to significantly improve the roster before the beginning of the 2025-26 NBA season. Brooklyn not only has to think about who they will be taking in the 2025 NBA Draft, but they also have to worry about what they will do in free-agency. "Several sources have indicated he's likely to command a deal as high as $100 million over four years, well in with first rank shooting guards at his age," NetsDaily reported on what Nets guard Cam Thomas is expected to earn in free-agency this summer. Thomas is a restricted free-agent this summer after spending his first four seasons in Brooklyn after being taken with the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of LSU. "Moreover, those same sources see Thomas signing as a priority for the Nets," NetsDaily continued. "Because of the Nets monopoly on cap space and the new CBA, the Nets aren't likely to have much competition for him." Many around the NBA have weighed in on what Thomas should command on the free-agent market, but it seems that he's likely to sign for somewhere between $20 million and $25 million per season. One fact to consider for anyone predicting Thomas' next contract is that he is a restricted free-agent, meaning that the Nets have more leverage than they would with an unrestricted free-agent thanks to the offer sheet matching mechanic. Granted, if a rival team wants Thomas bad enough, they could put forth an offer that Brooklyn may not want to match and Thomas would be playing with that team as a result. However, unless something significantly changes between now and when free-agency is in full-swing, the Nets are one of few teams that would be able to offer Thomas more than the Non-taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (NTMLE) of $14.105 million. Given the nature of how most teams won't be able to spend much money in free-agency this summer, Thomas could opt to sign with Brooklyn for the financial security.

Kevin Durant reportedly traded from Suns to Rockets in blockbuster deal
Kevin Durant is set to swap Arizona for Texas, with ESPN reporting on Sunday that the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets have agreed a trade for the 36-year-old. If the trade goes ahead it will be formally completed when the new league year starts on 6 July. Advertisement Related: The $10bn LA Lakers sale proves sports have outgrown even most billionaires Durant's best years are behind him but he still averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns in 62 games in 2024-25. He is a 15-time All-Star, four-time scoring champion and was NBA MVP in 2014. The Rockets would be Durant's fifth team after the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He won two titles with the Warriors and was also NBA finals MVP twice during his time in California. Last season was a disappointing one for the Suns, who finished with a 36-46 record, despite having the highest payroll in the NBA. The Rockets, meanwhile, finished second in the Western Conference but were eliminated by the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. Durant, who will turn 37 in September, has one year left on his current contract and is due to earn $54.7m next season. He can sign a two-year extension worth up to $122m when the new league year starts in July.
