
ITIDA launches 47th round of Start IT Incubation Program with new incentives to boost startup readiness
Cairo, Egypt: The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), an affiliate of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), has announced the launch of the 47th round of its Start IT incubation program. Applications are open until May 24, targeting early-stage startups with innovative ideas and ICT-based prototypes to help them transform their concepts into scalable and growth-ready startups.
In line with its continued efforts to empower the entrepreneurial ecosystem, TIEC has unveiled an enhanced package of incubation benefits for this round. Key updates include a significant increase in the financial and in-kind support, reaching EGP 480,000 up from EGP 180,000, providing startups with stronger capabilities to execute development and scaling phases more efficiently.
Additionally, cloud support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) has doubled to USD10,000, reflecting TIEC's strategy to accelerate cloud readiness and adoption among startups by enabling access to cutting-edge infrastructure and services.
This round also introduces the exclusive Start IT Perks platform, offering participants special discounts and benefits from TIEC partners, including InterAct and Tuba.ai. These partnerships provide startups with access to advanced technical tools and applications that enhance operational efficiency and foster business growth.
To address talent acquisition challenges faced by early-stage ventures, the program now includes dedicated recruitment support through collaborations with specialized platforms such as Talents Arena, Sprints, and Techie Matters, enabling startups to build skilled and professional teams.
Further, in response to the growing demand for AI-driven innovation, the new package features specialized support in Artificial Intelligence, including training programs and personalized consultancy sessions with experts. This is aligned with Egypt's digital transformation priorities and aims to raise AI readiness across the local startup ecosystem.
'The launch of the new round of the Start IT incubation program—enhanced with an expanded benefits package from our Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC)—reflects our continued commitment to supporting Egypt's tech startups innovation-driven entrepreneurship,' said Eng. Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of ITIDA.
'Entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in accelerating economic growth and driving innovation, and ITIDA remains firmly focused on developing custom-tailored programs and initiatives that address the needs of startups and strengthen Egypt's entrepreneurship ecosystem at every stage.'
Startups applying to the program will be assessed based on a set of technical criteria. Eligible projects must offer practical solutions to existing or anticipated market challenges and be backed by a functional ICT-based prototype. Projects should leverage technology either as a core product or as an enabling component of an innovative service.
Key selection criteria also include economic viability, sustainability potential, scalability, and the ability to attract investment. Projects must be led by dedicated entrepreneurs fully committed to developing their ventures. Applications from teams with non-dedicated undergraduate students or projects incubated concurrently elsewhere will not be considered.
Start IT is one of Egypt's leading startup support programs in the ICT sector, delivered quarterly by TIEC. Accepted startups benefit from a 12-month incubation period at TIEC centers across the country. These centers provide fully equipped workspaces, business and technical consulting, software and hardware support, and marketing services.
Project evaluation considers several key factors, including product or service uniqueness, market analysis, competitive advantage, prototype maturity, and founding team expertise.

Beltone Leasing secures $20mln for MSMEs, green financing in MENA
Cairo: Beltone Leasing and Factoring, a wholly owned subsidiary of Beltone Holding, obtained a total of $20 million in funding from two investment funds managed by Germany-based Finance in Motion GmbH. Each of the SANAD Fund for MSME and the Green for Growth Fund (GGF) granted $10 million, with a five-year repayment tenor, according to a press release. The Deputy Head of NBFIs for Leasing, Factoring, and Consumer Finance, Amir Ghannam, said: 'Securing foreign currency funding from institutions like SANAD and GGF enhances our ability to diversify our capital base and offer more competitive financing solutions.' 'This funding will enable us to strengthen our support for MSMEs while accelerating green projects that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future,' Ghannam added. Sherif Hassan, Group Treasurer and Managing Director of Debt Capital Markets, stated: 'This funding reflects our strong collaboration with Finance in Motion and our commitment to channeling strategic capital to grow Beltone Leasing and Factoring.' In the first three months (3M) of 2025, Beltone Holding generated consolidated operating revenues of EGP 2.80 billion, while the net profits surged to EGP 703 million.

Amazon to acquire direct stake in Valu following deal with EFG Holding
Cairo: Amazon has agreed to exercise its option to acquire a direct equity stake in U Consumer Finance (Valu), a subsidiary of EFG Holding Company, according to a press release. Based on an option agreement with EFG Holding in May 2022, Amazon acquired $10 million of the EGX-listed firm's global depository receipts (GDRs), with the option to convert the GDRs into a direct stake in Valu. This accounts for 4.25% of its share capital. After obtaining the necessary approval, Amazon will hold around 3.95% of Valu's shares. The transaction will be executed on the first trading session of Valu shares on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) at a price per Valu share of EGP 6.04 through the block trade mechanism. Karim Awad, Group CEO of EFG Holding, said: "This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to our shareholders, as we continue to create and manage businesses that deliver exceptional value and long-term rewards." Walid Hassouna, CEO of Valu, commented: "At Valu, we remain unwavering in our commitment to redefining the customer experience through cutting-edge financial solutions that empower individuals and businesses alike, driving both convenience and opportunity in every interaction." Contact reports 306% higher consolidated net income in Q1-25
Cairo: Contact Financial Holding achieved consolidated net income worth EGP 59 million in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, marking an annual leap of 306% from EGP 14 million. Meanwhile, the insurance revenues hiked by 73% year-on-year (YoY) to EGP 619 million as of 31 March 2025 from EGP 357 million, according to the financial statements. The total operating income rose by 30% to EGP 475 million in Q1-25 from EGP 365 million during the January-March period of 2024. The group's gross written premiums (GWPs) surged by 54% YoY to EGP 1.07 billion in the first three months (3M) of 2025 from EGP 696 million. Standalone Results The non-consolidated net losses of Contact widened to EGP 12.17 million as of 31 March 2025 from EGP 3.85 million in Q1-24. The standalone loss per share increased to EGP 0.010 in Q1-25 from EGP 0.003 in the same period a year ago. The company's management commented: 'As we progress through 2025, we are confident that this positive momentum will continue, aided by stabilizing inflation, easing interest rates, and an overall improvement in economic conditions.' 'Our financing division delivered a resilient performance during the quarter, reflecting the positive impact of our strategic shift towards more profitable offerings,' it added. In March, Contact joined forces with Fawry to enable its buy now, pay later (BNPL) service across Fawry's payment network, backing Egypt's vision to accelerate digital transformation and expand financial inclusion.
