HD Kumaraswamy practises yoga at Salem Steel Plant
Salem (TN), June 21 (UNI) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, participated in the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations held at the Salem Steel Plant.
The Minister joined factory staff, their family members, senior officials, members of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), and top officials from the Ministry of Steel in performing yoga.
Under the guidance of yoga instructors, the Minister performed some key and simple asanas and pranayama at the Hill View Sports Ground located in Salem Township.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Kumaraswamy said, 'Yoga has been a way of life in India since ancient times. A practice once limited to India was brought onto the global stage by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he took office eleven years ago. As a result, June 21 is now observed as International Yoga Day across the world. Full credit for this achievement goes to Prime Minister Modi.'
'I am very happy to have had the opportunity to participate in the Yoga Day celebration alongside the staff, officers, and their families at the Salem Steel Plant. It was a moment of joy and privilege to experience the uniqueness of yoga with the backbone of our nation—the steel community,' the Minister added.
'Yoga is not merely a physical exercise; it is an effective path to mental peace, mental clarity, physical well-being, and collective welfare. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has united the world. Our traditional yoga has made an extraordinary contribution to global well-being,' Kumaraswamy remarked.
Chairman of SAIL, Amarendu Prakash, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Steel Abhijit Narendra, and other senior officials from the Salem Steel Plant also participated in the yoga session.

Sensex surges by 1,289.57 points during week
Mumbai, June 21 (UNI) BSE Sensex surged 1,289.57 points, or 1.58 per cent, to settle at 82,408.17 during the week ended Friday, June 20, tracking gains in Asian markets and renewed foreign fund inflow, amid easing crude oil prices, improved investor sentiments. Nifty jumped 393.8 points, or 1.59 per cent, to settle at 25,112.40. Broader markets underperformed. The BSE Mid-Cap index shed 0.44 per cent to close at 45,480.26. The BSE Small-Cap declined 1.85 percent to end at 52,378.52. On Monday, the Sensex snapped a two-day losing streak and ended with solid gains. Sensex gained 677.55 points to settle at 81,796.15. Nifty 50 jumped 227.90 points to 24,946.50. The domestic equity benchmarks slipped into the red on Tuesday, dragged down by rising tensions between Israel and Iran. Investor sentiment remained subdued ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy decision. BSE Sensex declined 212.85 points to 81,583.30. Nifty fell 93.10 points to 24,853.40. On Wednesday, marking their second straight day of losses, as rising geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran weighed on investor sentiment, the Sensex declined 138.64 points to 81,444.66. Nifty too fell 41.35 points to 24,812.05. On Thursday, marking the third straight session of decline, as investor sentiment remained shaky due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Sensex shed 82.79 points to 81,361.87. Nifty fell 18.80 points to 24,793.25. On Friday, snapping a three-day losing streak in a row, as the market remained firm despite rising geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran. Stocks that fell during the week were Nestle India by 0.49 pc. Tamilnad Mercantile Bank by 2.83 pc, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) by 0.36 pc, AAVAS Financiers by 1.58 pc, Tata Motors by 5.04 pc, SpiceJet by 8.60 pc, Sun TV Network by 2.16 pc and Alembic Pharmaceuticals by 2.92 pc. Godrej Properties rose 0.76 pc. The company announced that it has acquired an approximately 16-acre land parcel in Upper Kharadi, Pune. The project will have a developable potential of 2.5 million square feet with an estimated revenue potential of about Rs 3,100 crore. DLF rose 0.30 pc. NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mastered the 'art of slogans' but offers no solutions and claimed that India's manufacturing was at a record low despite the 'Make in India' initiative. ''Make in India promised a factory boom. So why is manufacturing at record lows, youth unemployment at record highs, and why have imports from China more than doubled? The PM has mastered the art of slogans, not solutions. Since 2014, manufacturing has fallen to 14 per cent of our economy,' he said in a post on X. Gandhi said Modi has 'no new ideas' and has 'surrendered'. 'Even the much-hyped PLI scheme is now being quietly rolled back,' he alleged. He said India needs a fundamental shift, one that empowers lakhs of producers through honest reforms and financial support. 'We must stop being a market for others. If we don't build here, we'll keep buying from those who do. The clock is ticking,' said the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha. The Congress leader met mobile repair technicians at Nehru Place in the capital and attached a video of the conversation to the post. 'I met Shivam and Saif, both bright, skilled and full of promise - yet denied the opportunity.' Noting that there is a difference between 'Made in India' and 'Assembled in India', he said: 'The truth is stark: we assemble, we import, but we don't build. China profits. Urban challenge fund to focus on revitalising core areas of cities
Danny generated AI Image NEW DELHI: The next phase of central assistance (seed funding) for states to take up transformative projects under the Rs 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) will focus more on revitalising core areas of cities and fixing legacy infrastructure gaps, such as bad drainage, sanitation and polluted water bodies. Officials said the focus of this funding will be on projects that have a transformative impact. Centre will provide such financial aids to 500-1,000 small cities as well to take up projects, they said. The housing and urban affairs ministry has finalised the UCF scheme and it is likely to be launched soon, sources said. TOI on Jan 13 had reported that PM Narendra Modi has directed ministry officials to focus more on creating facilities, amenities and better transportation network in those areas of cities which naturally attract people and businesses, rather than developing new cities. Following the PM's direction, more thrust is now on having a better framework for transit-oriented development (TOD) for cities to push intensive and planned growth along transportation networks, the sources said.
