Bronx's drug-addled ‘The Hub' will see new quality-of-life crackdown, NYC Mayor Eric Adams says
The 'Broadway of the Bronx' — infamous for its open drug use and squalor — will see a new surge of city resources to crack down on quality-of-life problems, Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday.
Adams said his multi-agency 'Community Link' program will descend on the commercial area between Melrose and Mott Haven, known as 'The Hub.'
'Adding the Hub to this network will address the complex, chronic complaints and improve public safety in the Hunts Point, Mott Haven neighborhoods of the Bronx,' Adams said.
Exact details on how the Community Link would work in The Hub weren't given during the embattled mayor's announcement, which his staff cut short after reporters asked questions about Gov. Kathy Hochul potentially curtailing his powers.
A news release indicated The Hub would join other 'hot spot' communities such as the prostitute-filled Roosevelt Avenue and mentally ill haven Midtown West.
The Community Link program has flooded those areas with substance abuse, mental health and homeless outreach, as well as sanitation other quality-of-life efforts.
The ceaseless squalor in The Hub — and long-standing city promises to clean it up — was revealed in a Post exposé in January.
The Post spent several days there and watched two addicts suffer apparent overdoses and dozens more nod off after openly shooting dope.
After the exposé, dealers continued peddling their wares and junkies injected opioids with impunity — and without any increased NYPD presence.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson said the Community Link initiative — which brings together 20 different city agencies, including the NYPD, health department and sanitation — acknowledges the 'multiple layers' needed to fix the problems.
'Quality of life, sanitation, beautification, activating our open spaces, addressing the saturation of many of our social service programs, making sure that clients that are living with addiction and substance abuse have real holistic approaches to drug treatment and harm reduction programs,' she said.

Death of Food Network star Anne Burrell investigated as possible overdose amid shocking new details
The death of Food Network star Anne Burrell is being investigated as a possible drug overdose by the New York City Police Department, according to an internal document seen by The New York Times. Burrell, host of Worst Cooks in America and who appeared on Chef Wanted, Chopped, and Food Network Star, was found dead at her Brooklyn home on Tuesday morning. The document said Burrell, 55, was 'discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills.' First responder medical personnel who arrived at the property in response to a 911 call pronounced her dead at the scene. The Times was told by a spokesperson for the city medical examiner's office that an autopsy had been completed, but any findings on the cause and manner of death were still pending. Without naming Burrell but confirming details of the incident, including time, location, age, and sex of the deceased, a spokesperson for the NYPD told The Independent that the chief medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing at this time. Earlier reports suggested a possible cardiac arrest, citing the 911 call made that morning. The New York-born chef most recently appeared in the cooking competition show House of Knives, which premiered in March. However, in January, fans were surprised when she did not return as the host of the new season of Worst Cooks. Neither she nor the network provided an explanation for the change. Crazed stalker stabs two good Samaritans walking NYC woman who thought she was being followed home
A crazed stalker viciously stabbed two good Samaritans trying to walk a Brooklyn woman who believed she was being followed home. The suspect — a 5'8″ male with dark skin — knifed a 26-year-old man in the chest and shoulder and a 29-year-old man in the face around 1:30 a.m. in Kensington Saturday, according to the NYPD. Both victims had gone out of their way to help the woman after seeing a local social media alert about a stalker, and when they arrived at the reported address, they were accosted by the knife-wielding suspect.
