Residents fed up with Nosoob Baru road conditions

Published on: Wed, May 28, 2025 Text Size: PENAMPANG: After more than a year of enduring hazardous road conditions, residents of Kampung Nosoob Baru are demanding urgent action from local authorities. They are citing safety concerns, property damage, and a complete lack of accountability. Michelle Chin Ling Ling, Parti Impian Sabah Treasurer and Kapayan Division Chief, criticised the inaction by the Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (UPPM).
Advertisement 'The residents of Kg Nosoob Baru have been enduring severely damaged road conditions for over a year. "Despite multiple reports submitted to UPPM, there has been no concrete action taken. 'The only response received so far has been waiting for funds. This ongoing delay has caused daily inconvenience and concern for the villagers," she said. Chin added that Parti Impian Sabah is calling on the public to pressure on the UPPM through social media and other platforms to push for urgent repairs. 'Our community deserves safe and accessible roads. We cannot afford to wait any longer," she stressed. Among the frustrated residents is Eric Constantine, who suffered a tire blowout after hitting one of the many potholes in the village. 'I hit a pothole in my village and my tire got completely torn. 'We've already informed the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), and we're still waiting for the PPM to take any action. "This road has been full of holes for so long, and the response has been incredibly slow. We keep reporting it and nothing gets done.' He expressed concern over reports that the area's appointed PPM officer had resigned after joining an independent political party. 'The people don't care if the PPM quit or switched parties, just get someone who can actually do the job. "This is about road safety, not politics. What if a motorcyclist hits a pothole and gets seriously injured or worse? Police warn public against unlawful gathering on Saturday

Jahid leads Sabah honours list

Jahid is among four recipients of the state's highest honour, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima. Advertisement Other SPDK recipients include Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Finance Minister's Special Advisory Body member Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali, and businessman Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh are among those awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title Datuk. A total of 78 individuals are receiving the PGDK in this year's state awards ceremony. Another 100 are conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), followed by 181 receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK). Mohd Khalid Ismail appointed new IGP

The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol), witnessed by the Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and attended by the Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil as well as senior officers of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Advertisement Mohd Khalid, 60, has held various important positions in the PDRM Special Branch, including Chief of the Pahang Special Branch from May 25, 2018, before being appointed as the Bukit Aman Special Branch chief assistant director on Sept 6, 2021. Saifuddin Nasution in a statement today said Mohd Khalid's appointment received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia in accordance with Clauses (4) and (5) Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission. According to him, the contract appointment is for two years, starting from June 23 this year until June 22, 2027. He said Mohd Khalid was a highly experienced officer in the field of intelligence and security since he began serving in the force on April 5, 1987, when he was assigned to the Special Branch at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, after completing the General Police Training in the same year. Advertisement "Mohd Khalid also has experience serving at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, contingents and overseas, and has held key positions such as Deputy Director of Special Branch I, Bukit Aman police headquarters, and Security Liaison Officer (SLO) London, United Kingdom. "He was promoted to the position of Special Branch director on April 10, 2023, before mandatory retirement on April 8, 2025, and his service as Special Branch director continued after retirement and he was appointed on a contract basis starting from April 8, 2025, until now," he said. Saifuddin Nasution said that based on his extensive experience in the field of policing, Mohd Khalid possesses high competence and leadership qualities to carry on the continuity and responsibility of leading the team. Mohd Khalid, who was born in Manong, Perak on April 8, 1965, holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Laws and a Bachelor's Degree in Law (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia, as well as a Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi Mara. Saifuddin Nasution also expressed appreciation to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure as IGP since June 23, 2023.
