Ohio State coach Jake Diebler, former players, praise family culture, expectations at OSU
The Ohio State basketball program welcomed in some former players for "Vet Week" over the last few days. It's been a great opportunity for the current players on the roster to connect with some of the legends and players that have donned the Scarlet and Gray in the past for some teaching, competition, and camaraderie.
One of the things those close to and inside the program always appreciate is the expectations and the family culture through the years. It's clear that the expectations haven't been met over the last decade or so, but head coach Jake Diebler is trying to change that. One thing that has not waned is the family atmosphere, hence all of the former guys coming back to the banks of the Olentangy to be a part of this week.
On Thursday, Diebler and the former players spoke to the current roster to let them know about being a part of an extended family and where the program should be going forward. It was a tough love type of moment, especially when the players talked.
"The family part of this program is one of my favorite things. It's real," Diebler said. "When we're playing in -- I don't care where -- there's going to be former players in the building and always watching. Their care level is elite. Care just as much as these guys care, because if you do, we'll do something special ..."Many of the guys right here are the ones that put those numbers (accolades) on the wall. You getting to wear Ohio State is the privilege of a lifetime. And our job is just to hold you to that standard."
You can watch the rest of the messaging, including guys like Scoonie Penn, D'Angelo Russel, and JJ Sullinger looking to hold the team accountable.
Here's to hoping all of this messaging, optimism, and hard work translates to more wins this season, one that results in some of those special things Diebler and the former players were talking about.

Wisconsin great Braelon Allen holds a notable NFL record entering 2025 season
Wisconsin great Braelon Allen holds a notable NFL record entering 2025 season The most rush yards in NFL history before these ages... What jumps out about this list? 🤔 — NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) June 19, 2025 Wisconsin fans grew used to hearing about Braelon Allen's age during his terrific three-year college career. The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, native joined the program a year early after reclassifying from the class of 2022 to 2021. That move meant he joined the program as a 17-year-old true freshman, a fact that became universally known when the Badgers' season kicked off that fall. Allen burst onto the scene immediately during that true freshman campaign, taking 186 carries for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns. His emergence one month into the season directly correlated with the Badgers' seven-game win streak and in-season resurgence. Thanks to the ESPN and Fox broadcast teams, Allen's age became synonymous with the team's success. The talented running back went on to play in 35 games over three seasons with the Badgers. He took 597 total carries for 3,494 yards and 35 touchdowns. At only 20 years old, Allen entered the draft after his junior season, where the New York Jets selected him with the No. 134 overall pick. That leads to Allen's current NFL record. 20-year-old prospects rarely enter the professional ranks, given the three-year requirement between high school graduation and NFL draft declaration. A player would need to enter college at 17, which Allen did, then perform well enough to declare before their senior season. Allen, who didn't turn 21 until January 20, was the only 20-year-old in the NFL last season. Thus, it should be no surprise that he is currently the league's all-time leader in rushing yards before the age of 21. Allen carried the football 92 times for 334 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie with the Jets in 2024, primarily operating as the backup to starter Breece Hall. Allen and Hall should continue to form a 1-2 punch for the Jets in 2025. The former Badger's league record should hold for some time. Moving forward, it will be interesting to watch whether he can surpass any other legendary name on this list. For reference, Ezekiel Elliott totaled an NFL-best 1,631 yards as a 21-year-old rookie in 2016. Allen would need a 1,300-yard output in 2025 to reach that mark. Oklahoma attempting to get Bowe Bentley on campus for ChampU BBQ per report
Oklahoma attempting to get Bowe Bentley on campus for ChampU BBQ per report The Oklahoma Sooners' 2026 quarterback recruiting took a turn late Thursday night when Jaden O'Neal decommitted from the Sooners. That leaves the Sooners to focus entirely on four-star quarterback Bowe Bentley. In the wake of O'Neal's decommitment, the Sooners are looking to get Bentley back on campus this weekend, according to ESPN's Eli Lederman (formerly of Tulsa World). Bently just completed a strong showing in the Elite 11 finals in California this week. Bentley was the top performer on night two of the Elite 11 finals after completing 18 of 20 passes and looking good in the Pro Day element of the drills. Analysts marveled at his accuracy and ability to throw on the move. It's that athleticism that's made him one of the more highly sought after quarterbacks over the last six months. The four-star quarterback out of Celina, Texas has seen a meteoric rise in the rankings this offseason. In 247Sports rankings back in November, he was considered the No. 296 player in the class. In March, he shot up to No. 75 overall in the class. Now Bentley is down to two schools, the Sooners and the LSU Tigers. According to Lederman, a decision could be coming sooner rather than later. If Oklahoma is able to get Bentley back on campus this weekend for the ChampU BBQ, just two weeks after his official visit at the beginning of June, it would be a significant development in his recruitment.
