Greater Manchester Police 'ready for anything' ahead of Parklife weekend
With Parklife festival now rapidly bearing down on Heaton Park, preparations are entering their final stages.
But while stages are set up, food stands and bars take deliveries, and soundchecks begin more work is going on in the background to keep the festival safe.
We spoke with representatives from Greater Manchester Police about some of their work to ensure the weekend goes as smoothly and safely as possible, and they tell us they're "ready for anything".

Chief Superintendent Andy Sidebotham is GMP's "gold" commander for Parklife, meaning he has overseen the strategy and planning for the event.
"GMP are really proud to support Parklife, we've been doing it for many years," he said.
"We work really closely with the event organiser, the local authority, Transport for Greater Manchester to make sure it's a safe and secure festival.
"Our planning is particular, it's happened over several months and weeks leading up to this. We all work together to try and make it the best festival it can be so those people coming here feel really safe.
"We have close contact with people travelling by public transport and the road network to make sure it's as seamless as possible."
He added: "Every year is different, we never rest on our laurels, last year we had thunder and lightning which paused the festival for a number of hours, but we're ready for anything.
"We test our plans carefully. We're looking forward to it. We want people to come and have a good time and be safe."
He is joined by Superintendent Phil Spurgeon who is the "silver" commander for the weekend, meaning he will be overseeing the more on the ground operations.
"We essentially deliver a massive public safety operation in conjunction with the event organisers and partners," he said.
"We have hundreds of staff working in unique roles just roles just to make sure that we are safe.
"We also have significant investment in trying to minimise disruption. Having 60,000 mostly young people on and off site can present some challenges."
Superintendent Spurgeon has probably been to Parklife more times than some regular attendees, telling us that this is his tenth time at the festival including six "on the ground" and four overseeing.
He said: "I just think it's such a good event for Manchester. It's an important part of our cultural offering for young people especially, and it's important for the economy of the region."

Man torched mum's home after raiding her fridge while she was away in Blackpool
A man fuelled by booze torched his own mum's house after he raided the fridge while she was in Blackpool. Liam Patrick Deeney climbed through a window of the house before he set fire to the property in what was described as an "extremely dangerous" incident. Detectives said his impulsive actions also put the properties neighbouring the house in danger too. On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Deeney broke into the house on Thornton Road, Tyldesley, Wigan, at around 11pm while his mum was away at the seaside resort. Greater Manchester Police said: "He entered the property through a back window and stole food and alcohol from the fridge before setting the address on fire." The investigation revealed Deeney, 30, ignited two separate fires - one in the bedroom wardrobes and another on an armchair in the living room, leading to the entire bungalow being engulfed in flames, Lancs Live reports. "The fire has caused damage to items of significance and memorabilia such as his mother's medals, clothing, jewellery, and old pictures of sentimental value," GMP added. Deeney, of Lever Street, Tyldesley, was arrested and charged. He later pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. He was sentenced to three years, four months in prison at Bolton Crown Court last Thursday (June 12). In a statement issued following the hearing, Detective Constable Riyaz Patel: "Liam Deeney's actions were extremely dangerous and put neighbouring properties in danger. "He acted in an impulsive manner whilst under the influence of alcohol, destroying his mother's home and sentimental items belonging to her that meant so much to her. "I hope this sentence shows that GMP will pursue domestic violence perpetrators to keep victims safe and ensure justice is delivered." A restraining order prevents Deeney from contacting his mother for five years. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £228. Police issue update after car 'deliberately driven' at man
Police have issued an update after a driver 'deliberately' ploughed into a man in Bolton. Emergency services descended on Goldrill Avenue, in Breightmet, at around 11.50pm on Friday night (June 20). Greater Manchester Police said it was called out to reports of a car being deliberately driven at a man, who was later taken to hospital with a leg injury. GMP arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of Section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm with intent) in connection with the incident. In an update issued today (Sunday), the force confirmed the suspect had since been bailed pending further enquiries. Police said on Saturday the incident was being investigated as a 'serious assault'. Third suspect arrested after shot fired at group on Salford street
A third man has been arrested following a 'shooting' in Salford. Officers were called out to Littleton Road, in Kersal, shortly before 3pm on Friday (June 20) following reports a shot had been fired towards a group of men in the street. Greater Manchester Police believes a group of men on Suron bikes travelled towards the men on the street 'at speed' before a firearm was discharged towards them. A 24-year-old man, who was found in Cheadle, Stockport, and a 36-year-old man were both arrested in connection with the incident. Armed police were also seen in attendance on Manchester Road, in Walkden, and near Agecroft Cemetery on Friday. In an update issued this morning (Sunday), GMP says a 23-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with Friday's incident. He remains in custody for questioning this morning. The other two suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries. GMP says officers, including special operations police, remain in attendance in the Littleton Road area today. A force spokesperson said on Saturday: "We are continuing to follow up lines of enquiry to determine any others involved and the full circumstances surrounding the incident. "Additional officers remain in the area for reassurance and to investigate." He was arrested but later released with no further action following checks by police, it is understood.
