Terry Crews Says He Never Wants to Judge 'America's Got Talent': Here's Why (Exclusive)
Terry Crews exclusively tells PEOPLE why he would never be a judge on America's Got Talent
Crews called hosting America's Got Talent "a dream gig" and revealed who he thinks would make a good judge alongside Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara and Mel B
Crews joined America's Got Talent as a host beginning with season 14 in 2019Don't expect to see Terry Crews sitting behind the judges' table on America's Got Talent anytime soon.
The former professional football player turned actor, 56, exclusively told PEOPLE at a recent red carpet celebrating the show's milestone 20th season that he's most comfortable being the host and, as he described it, a "bodyguard" for the contestants.
"That's not my thing," he said of being a judge. "I mean, I am 100% the bodyguard of talent because when I look at all the people that come through here, they just remind me of me."
"I remember just sitting in Michigan praying one day if I get my shot to come out to L.A. and make it happen, and they remind me of everything that I've been through," he explained. "So I protect it and I watch them."
Crews said he is there to support the contestants, no matter how well they did or didn't do on the stage.
"I'm the counselor when they go on. I give them all the good advice when they come off. If it didn't go well, I console them," he said. "So I love that."

While Crews isn't down to be a judge on America's Got Talent, he does have an idea for who would make a good one alongside Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara and Mel B.
"I think Chris Rock would be a great judge," he revealed. "He knows funny, but he knows entertainment."
Crews, who joined America's Got Talent as a host beginning with season 14 in 2019, said working on the show is "a dream come true" for him.
"This is a dream gig," he said. "Where else can you go where the whole world is watching?"
America's Got Talent season 20 premieres Tuesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

'Superman''s David Corenswet Recalls ‘Intense' Time He Screen-Tested for the Movie During Wife's Pregnancy (Exclusive)
David Corenswet tells PEOPLE that he and his wife had to keep two big secrets when they found out she was pregnant and he was cast as Superman "We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us," he says Corenswet is PEOPLE's latest cover star as the new Superman movie is poised to take flight this summerFor Superman star David Corenswet, 2023 was a busy year: He learned he'd be a father and landed the part of the Man of Steel. In PEOPLE's new cover story, the Philadelphia native, 31, recalls going through the 'intense' time with wife Julia, 34. 'She told me that she was pregnant two days after I found out I was going to screen test for Superman,' says Corenswet. 'For the first several months of her pregnancy, as is sort of protocol, we weren't telling anybody. We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us. And that was intense.' 'For a period we had just each other for these two huge things,' continues Corenswet, who says Julia's due date originally coincided with when he was set to start filming in early 2024. 'It was very close. It wasn't direct, but it was still very close. But it was just having to do two big unknown things at the same time. And they were both great things,' he says. The good-natured Corenswet found the lighter side of the situation. 'She gained about 40 pounds while she was pregnant and in the same period I gained about 40 pounds gaining weight for Superman,' he recalls. 'I started snoring and had to use her pregnancy pillow.' The actor says he was at his home, on a break from making the 2024 movie Twisters, when he got the call from Superman director James Gunn telling him he had been cast in the lead role. 'It started with, 'Hey David, it's James Gunn.' And I said, 'Can you prove that?' I guess in the moment before when I saw the unknown 310 number, I thought, 'I'm pretty sure this is James telling me whether or not I got the part, but it could be anybody from Los Angeles who has my number and maybe somebody's going to play a prank on me,' " Corenswet says of the phone call that changed his life. 'Anyway, I think he appreciated that and he said, 'That's a good point. I'm calling to offer you the role of Superman.' And I said, 'Well, you're the only person who could do that, so it must be you,'' Corenswet continues. Now he's hoping he did the role justice. 'I feel much more a sense of responsibility than a sense of accomplishment having done the role. I also know that so much in life and especially the life of an actor is up to chance and good luck, and certainly you get what you make of your situation,' he says. 'I just think of it as a great stroke of luck and I better do everything I can to earn the responsibility,' Corenswet continues. JoJo Siwa Talks Lesbian Identity Pressure: Opinion
JoJo Siwa discussed feeling "pressure" to identify as a lesbian, so let's talk about it. When JoJo first came out in 2021, she generally used the term "gay" as more of a synonym for queer. "I don't know, bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight. I always just say gay because it just kind of covers it or queer because I think the keyword is cool, she told People. "Technically I would say that I am pansexual because that's how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human." She even made headlines for not liking the word "lesbian." In the years that followed, JoJo did occasionally use the term "lesbian" and was publicly in relationships with women and nonbinary people. During her stint on Big Brother earlier this year, she ultimately concluded, 'I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean? I think that's the thing, I've always told myself I'm a lesbian, and I think being here I've realized: 'Oh, I'm not a lesbian, I'm queer,' and I think that's really cool.' She is currently dating co-star Chris Hughes. JoJo is currently set to be on the cover of the Daily Mail's YOU Magazine this weekend. Ahead of the full interview, the tabloid ran an excerpt with a headline beginning, "I was pressured into calling myself a lesbian." In the interview, she said, "When I came out at 17, I said: 'I'm pansexual, because I don't care [about gender].' But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said: 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of pressure." 'In a weird way, I think it came a little bit from inside the [LGBTQ] community at times,' she continued. 'From people I know, from partners I've had. You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian,' you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid.' Now, I know that weird straight people will jump on the headline as evidence of some gay conspiracy. But all this does is ignore the evident biphobia that underpins JoJo's story. And yes, this can come from people who are queer themselves! In fact, I am almost certain that any bisexual person you ask will say they've experienced some form of biphobia in LGBTQ spaces — there's even a term for it, "double discrimination." When someone so young is being told by both straight and gay people that their sexuality isn't legitimate, can you blame them for going with what feels more right to them in the moment? I'm using "biphobia" here as a blanket term for "anti-fludity." It's a problem that's been around for eons. Years ago, I asked a leader at a company I worked at about the prevalence of bi-erasure. In response, he, a man in his 60s, said that he likely would have identified as bisexual if he were coming out now, but instead went with "gay" because he felt that people wouldn't have believed him. Such is the double-edged sword with biphobia: Whether you're a man or a woman, it's assumed that you're simply into men. Plus, as JoJo says, sexuality is fluid. I can't help but wonder if the people making the biggest deal over this have an internal abhorrence over someone, well, expressing that fluidity. I'm just an idiot with a keyboard, but it really bothers me 0% if someone updates their preferred terms. It's all very "backlash at Demi Lovato for using she/her pronouns again," even though they are still nonbinary and their point was completely missed in that discourse. There's also the frustration from people who say things like, "Well, why did JoJo have to make being a lesbian such a big part of her brand?" For one, JoJo said that she "basically got blackballed" by Nickelodeon after she came out (Nickelodeon has denied this). It's possible that the decision to pivot so hard into the queerness of it all may not have been driven just by her. This is 2025: I have to write a defense piece about JoJo Siwa. In short, don't aim your hate at JoJo. Aim it at the biphobic system, and, instead, let us unite about the 11-year age gap between her and Chris. Looking for more LGBTQ+ or Pride content? After revealing they officially bought a new house on June 19, the married HGTV stars appeared to toast to the exciting chapter ahead during a double date with their The Flip Off costar and Tarek's ex-wife, Christina Haack, along with her boyfriend Christopher Larocca. In an Instagram Story shared by Heather shortly after announcing their big real estate news, Haack and Larocca can be seen sitting on the opposite side of the table at a restaurant while Tarek sits next to his wife. The Boomerang clip shows Haack and Larocca smiling as they bring their wine glasses to Tarek and Heather's in a celebratory toast. In the top left corner, Heather has Haack, Larocca and Tarek's Instagram handles tagged, followed by a champagne bottle emoji. Haack also shared the post to her Instagram Stories on Friday, June 20. This is not the first time the group of four have spent time together. The photo showed both couples enjoying some outdoor dining as Tarek joked in the caption that his 'first round of interviews' with Larocca were complete. The funny post came nearly one month after Haack and Larocca's relationship went public in January. Since then, the foursome have also taken vacations together, most recently for a blended family getaway to celebrate Easter with their kids. Tarek and Haack, who were married from 2009 to 2016, share two children together: daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9. Tarek and Heather welcomed their son Tristan, 2, in January 2023. While the co-parents had a rocky start to their friendship, Tarek, Heather and Haack all get along well now, with Heather and Haack even seeing each other as good friends.
