'Fantastic' period drama based on real events has fans completely 'hooked'

The Great is a historical and satirical TV comedy-drama loosely based on the rise and reign of Catherine the Great of Russia, the longest-ruling female in the country's history
Fans are raving about this period drama, which boasts an all-star cast, sizzling romance, and 18th-century intrigue. The Great is a historical comedy-drama that draws inspiration from the life of Catherine the Great, Russia's longest-reigning female leader.
The show follows Catherine's tumultuous marriage to Emperor Peter III, whom she plots to overthrow.

Elle Fanning shines as Catherine II, bringing to life the complex and dynamic character. She's joined by Nicolas Hoult, who plays her husband with conviction.

Hoult has built a reputation for his versatile performances in shows like Skins and films like the X-Men franchise and About A Boy.
Rotten Tomatoes is filled with glowing reviews, with many praising the on-screen chemistry between the leads. One reviewer said: "The chemistry among this supremely well-cast ensemble of incredibly endearing characters was a marvel. Loved every minute of this series..", reports the Express.
Another fan raved: "Truly a must-watch - raunchy, clever, witty, beautiful, breathtaking and shocking fun! I've been telling everyone I can. Why is this so under the radar? ? I'm a MAJOR Elle Fanning fan now. She held nothing back and rocked The Great in every way."
While the inaugural season was well-received, the subsequent two seasons garnered critical acclaim, with every facet of the show - from the script to the costumes - earning praise. The series, a dark comedy, doesn't take itself too seriously and openly admits its historical inaccuracies, allowing for more creative freedom with its visual elements.
The Great's success led to it being nominated for an impressive seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Additionally, both lead actors received Golden Globe nominations for their stellar performances throughout the show's brief duration.

"I am hooked," one viewer admitted. "I am so happy that I stumbled upon this series. I adore the wit and drama, and the sex is enjoyable too!".
Another glowing review said: "I love this show so much. How can something balance the funny and the abject so perfectly?"Gorgeous to look at; smarter by the episode; makes use of history without being burdened by it; irreverent, low-brow, high-brow, wonderful. "".
Initially released on Hulu in 2020, the show was later renewed for a second season, which became a massive hit among telly fans. However, despite its success, the creators decided it was time to wrap up the story, and after its third season aired in 2023, it was announced that it would be the last of The Great - much to viewers' disappointment.
Viewers had been keeping their fingers crossed that the drama would carry on, with one fan saying: "This show keeps getting better and better! It's witty, funny, and historically (in)accurate ;) casting is just fabulous, and I'm hoping we'll get many more seasons of this utterly ridiculous story."
All three sidesplitting series of the hit period comedy-drama, The Great, can be streamed now on Amazon Prime and Channel 4.

From nude snaps, toyboy lovers & launching sexy products – how 50-plus stars like Hurley and Holden get spicier with age

Find out what Amanda Holden keeps in her saucy bedroom box GENERATION X-RATED From nude snaps, toyboy lovers & launching sexy products – how 50-plus stars like Hurley and Holden get spicier with age GONE are the days when midlife meant slowing down in the bedroom department — if this lot are anything to go by then this is the era when things ramp up. From Liz Hurley in her 'birthday suit' for her 60th, to Amanda Holden, 54, gardening 'naked', 52-year-old Sofia Vergara sunbathing topless and Halle Berry launching her own range of sex products, these women refuse to let age diminish their sensuality. Even at 67 Sharon Stone — technically a boomer — has set pulses racing with her latest magazine cover for Vogue. Proudly revealing her breasts in a sheer dress, it's her raunchiest shoot to date. While many may judge them for not 'acting their age', I'm sure millennials knee deep in nappies and Peppa Pig — in the so-called arid years — will be looking on with a hint of the green-eyed monster, and hoping that they too will revive their mojo in mid-life. Sharon Stone says she is 'hotter now than I have ever been' and that just as many people want to sleep with her as in her younger years. Meanwhile Liz Hurley is 'in love' with her new beau Billy Ray Cyrus, 63. Advertisement And kudos to Amanda Holden, who is happily 'swinging from the chandeliers' with husband Chris Hughes, 51. She says he can't keep his hands off her, adding: 'I actually tell him off because I say, 'I don't want to have a kiss and a grope while I'm trying to load the dishwasher.' One secret to their saucy sex life is that Amanda likes to walk around the home completely naked — whether serving Sunday lunch or bouncing on the trampoline in the garden. She also says she has a 'magic box' of sex toys. Advertisement Heidi Klum is another Gen-X-er who is more than satisfied. Married to Tom Kaulitz, who is 16 years her junior, she has spoken about how she has found her match. Amanda Holden appears NAKED on radio just days after Ofcom complaints over BGT dress Describing her sex life as 'endless, hot and wild', she says she likes to have sex for hours. Heidi once said: 'If you are wild and crazy, bring it on so the other person is well aware that you have little devil horns that come out every once in a while.' Advertisement The German model's daughter Leni, 20, also revealed on a podcast that she and her friends found her mum's sex closet — where she keeps her sex toys and dressing-up clothes. While most teens would be mortified, Leni described the secret stash as 'cool'. Sexual prime According to research, it's not just celebrities or fictional characters such as the Sex And The City girls or Bridget Jones who are experiencing a sexual reawakening in their 50s and beyond. Women over 50 — perhaps surprisingly — have more body confidence than younger women. Kate Taylor, Sex and relationship expert While millennials and Gen Z are in a sexual recession — having less sex than their parents — many women of Generation X or even boomers like Sharon Stone are in their sexual prime. Advertisement Sex and relationship expert Kate Taylor said: 'Women over 50 — perhaps surprisingly — have more body confidence than younger women. 'A survey by dating site Ourtime found that senior daters are more likely to leave the lights on in bed, and have sex sooner than daters aged 20 to 30.' She also said women have more access than previous generations to HRT to increase natural libido, and beauty treatments to boost confidence. Halle Berry is one Hollywood A-lister who has talked freely about post-menopause sex. Advertisement Last month she shared a video lying naked in bed with her boyfriend, 55-year-old musician Van Hunt, and held up a bottle of personal lubricant, laughing to the camera — hinting that they were about to get frisky. She has previously revealed that she has had red-light therapy down below and uses lubricating skincare products, declaring that she is now 'juicy like a peach'. Halle, 58, who has her own range of intimate wellness products, is as stunning as ever and her confidence is through the roof — at this year's Met Gala she appeared to go commando and left little to the imagination in a sheer dress. She insists 'Age is just a number they stick on us at birth' and looking at these sexy stars, you might say that it's almost possible to freeze time — if you have the means to do so. Advertisement Single Jennifer Lopez, 55, is a prime example. She showcased her ageless figure when performing at the American Music Awards last month, and in a bold move to prove she is far from past it, she locked lips with both her male and female dancers, making global headlines. In a similar move, Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara recently posted a holiday pic topless in just a thong bikini, and fans were amazed by how fabulous she looked. 6 Sofia Vergara, 52, 'I feel very sexy right when I wake up. Others left a trail of flame emojis and marriage proposals. Twice-married Sofia recently declared that she is looking for 'a lover' after her divorce from actor Joe Manganiello was finalised last year. After that thirst trap of a snap, there will be plenty of volunteers. As our hormone levels change, declining oestrogen can rev up the impact of our body's natural testosterone, making us feel lustier and more energetic. Kate Taylor, Sex and relationship expert Kate Taylor says: 'Women over 50 get a boost of va-va-voom, especially if they're single.' Youth, they say, is wasted on the young. And numerous studies have shown that Gen Z is too busy scrolling TikTok and taking selfies to have much real-life sex. Meanwhile those in their 50s and older have reported improvements to their sex lives, with more than a third having the best sex of their lives, according to Swedish sex toy firm Lelo. Maybe youth isn't wasted on the young then — it's just the warm-up act for a spicier mid-life. The Waterfront: Is The New Drama From The Creator Of Dawson's Creek Worth Watching? Read What Critics Say

One of Netflix's newest arrivals is The Waterfront , already dubbed 'Dawson's Creek for adults', which sounds like perfect weekend viewing to us. It's even created by the same person: Kevin Williamson. Starring Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist, Danielle Campbell, Mario Bello and Holt McCallany, this drama is bound to introduce you to some new faces too. But is the new show worth watching? Is it genuinely gripping or just a good comfort watch? Read below to find out. Set in the fictional seaside town, Havenport, North Carolina, this eight-part Netflix series follows the prominent yet dysfunctional family, the Buckleys, as they try to keep their decaying fishing empire afloat by entering the dangerous world of the drug trade. It doesn't sound too far off last summer's hit show, The Perfect Couple, or any of the Harlan Coben series, so if you liked any of those then this one might be worth a try. Yes, you can watch the official trailer for the series below. Nick Hilton at The Independent gave the series three stars, describing it as 'predictable to a fault' but 'hard not to keep watching'. The Guardian 's Lucy Mangan agrees, giving The Waterfront three stars too. 'Twists come thick and fast, there's tons of plot and action is set in a water-based community,' she writes. 'The creator of the '90s megahit's new show is an opportunity to wallow in nostalgia – albeit with added drug running.' It is described as 'highly bingeable' by Variety too. Aramide Tinubu explains the series is inspired by Williamson's father, who was a fisherman and began smuggling drugs in the 1980s to make ends meet. ' The Waterfront is a highly entertaining series about four people willing to do anything to hold on to their legacy, even if it means turning on each other in the process,' reads the review. The New York Times ' Margaret Lyons praised the show for bringing 'more murder to Netflix'. 'The show is one of many to follow the Yellowstone model, a family saga of violence and secrets, of huffy men and sly women, of distinctive names. It is also about land that's been in this family for generations, gosh darn it – land that's our legacy if only the cruelties of debt and developers would abate,' she writes. It might only have a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience rating of 3.9, but the reviews are largely positive. This is a watchable, familiar show with all the twists and turns audiences are looking for. If you have a day to yourself to lie on the sofa away from the heat, you know what to do. Has Nine Perfect Strangers been renewed for Season 3? Here's what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled? Nine Perfect Strangers is the latest drama on Hulu, bringing a group of damaged individuals into an experimental Wellness program and attempting to reform and heal their woes. With a touch of humour but mostly sentimental drama, this is one of the more intriguing shows out there. So after watching it in its entirety, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here's what we know: What is Nine Perfect Strangers about? Nine Perfect Strangers returns for a second season, this time trading the sunny wellness spa for an exclusive Alpine retreat called Zauberwald. Masha is back and just as unhinged as ever, despite presenting herself as reinvented and fully leaning into psychedelic therapy. Now it's all above board though, and the guests have signed up willingly. The new arrivals are here for peace and healing, but get far more than they bargained for. We have ongoing coverage of Nine Perfect Strangers on the site including recaps of every episode. You can find those HERE! Has Nine Perfect Strangers been renewed for season 3? At the time of writing, Nine Perfect Strangers has not been renewed for season 3. Generally Hulu would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Nine Perfect Strangers has had a very mixed reaction from critics and audiences alike, with many commenting (including ourselves) that the plot has gone off the rails this season and struggled to capture what made season 1 so alluring. Given the way this show is set up, we're predicting that this will not be renewed for a third season. The series' initial renewal was one of the more surprising announcements when it came and it was perhaps the wrong move in retrospect. Still, the format itself could be rehashed again for a third season if enough people are willing to slip back into this one. However, we could be completely wrong, so take our prediction with a pinch of salt! What we know about season 3 so far: Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point as Hulu haven't officially renewed this one. Should it be renewed, we have some big questions. What will happen to Masha? Will she ever get closure? Will there be a new group of guests to torture heal? It seems unlikely but if this series is renewed, we'd expect it to be green-lit with another 8 episode order, and have Nicole Kidman in the driver's seat too. However, we'll be sure to update this page as and when we get more information. Do you want to see Nine Perfect Strangers return for a third season? What did you think of the show?
