'Thunderbolts' Filmmaker Confirmed as 'X-Men' director

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Variety has seemingly confirmed that "Thunderbolts*" director Jake Schreier will be helming Marvel's next stab at an "X-Men" film. In a story about Marvel's 2028 release dates, it was speculated that the "X-Men" reboot could be one of the features scheduled for the year. It was mentioned that Jake Schreier had been chosen as the director for the film, though this is the first time that's been confirmed. Read More: New Spider-Man Series Resolves Decades-Old Cliffhanger There were reports in May that Schreier was in early talks to possibly direct "X-Men", including speculation that the reason the director had been turning down work from other studios was to make room for the Marvel feature. But it had yet to be reported that the director/film match was a lock. Promotional material for "X2: X-Men United". Promotional material for "X2: X-Men United". 20th Century Studios The script for the film has been written by Michael Lesslie, with Kevin Feige producing. From one point of view, it's a surprising confirmation considering the "Thunderbolts*" theatrical run didn't end on a high note. In spite of high critical praise and a promising opening weekend, the Marvel film only amassed $380 million against a production budget of $180 million, officially flopping. Of course, the X-Men are a much different animal than the Thunderbolts. On the comic book stands and to movie audiences, the X-Men are a much better-known and proven property. Marvel fans have been waiting for years to see what Marvel Studios would do with beloved characters like Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto. Few fans, on the other hand, were on the edge of their seat to see the next movie with Red Guardian. Now that we know who will be helming the first MCU "X-Men" film, we still need to wait to learn exactly who will be in the film. We know many of the stars from the Fox X-Men films will be appearing in "Avengers: Doomsday", including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden. Add to that Channing Tatum, whose version of Gambit finally got its chance to shine in last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine," but has never been shown as part of an X-Men team on the big screen. There is also continuing speculation that Hugh Jackman will appear in either "Doomsday" and/or the follow-up "Avengers: Secret Wars". But will Schreier use X-Men we already know and love, or will he introduce us to a brand new batch of mutant heroes? Home closest to the iconic Hollywood sign lists for $2.25M

If location is everything in real estate, then 6105 Mulholland Highway may have just taken home the crown. Nestled into the hillside of Beachwood Canyon and perched just beneath the towering white letters that spell 'Hollywood,' this A-frame chalet isn't just close to the famous sign — it's the closest residence to it, The Post has learned. Listed for $2.25 million with Christopher Soffer and Trenton Armitage of The Beverly Hills Estates, the midcentury hideaway offers something few properties can: front-row views of the cultural landmark that has defined Los Angeles for a century. Advertisement 'It is extremely limited,' Soffer told The Post. 'Being the closest house to the Hollywood sign in the world is as limited as it gets.' 17 Located at 6105 Mulholland Highway, the 1963 chalet-style property sits at the end of a private road in L.A.'s Beachwood Canyon and is surrounded by untouched wilderness. Lawrence Fitz-Simon Built in 1963 and tucked at the end of a private road, the three-bedroom, 2,500-square-foot home will be the first time it will hit the market in almost 40 years. Advertisement 'It's perched up in the trees, almost like a tree house,' Soffer said. 'You have this sense when you're there that you really feel like you're entrenched in this lifestyle and this period of time that seems to have faded away with the modern age.' 17 The foyer. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 The current owners, digital artists Jeffrey Kleiser and Diana Walczak, are selling the home as part of a broader real estate consolidation. Its A-frame design — uncommon in Los Angeles — is clad in wood inside and out, creating a cabin-in-the-woods ambiance in the middle of one of the city's most iconic neighborhoods. 'There's tons and tons of wood,' Soffer said. 'You kind of also feel like you're in a cabin in the woods, which is beautiful because the entire A-frame is essentially made out of wood.' The home's current owners, digital effects pioneer Jeffrey Kleiser and sculptor Diana Walczak, have used the space as both residence and creative incubator. Walczak, best known for sculpting the Michael Jackson HIStory statue and designing its digital version for the album cover, and Kleiser, whose credits span 'Tron' to 'X-Men,' are consolidating their property portfolio, according to Soffer. Advertisement 17 The home has hosted a slew of artists over the years. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 Walczak is best known for sculpting Michael Jackson's HIStory statue, while Kleiser's visual effects work includes 'Tron' and 'X-Men.' Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 The three-bedroom home has played host to numerous artists and musicians, including The Association, the 1960s band featured in Linda McCartney's photography book, 'The Sixties.' Lawrence Fitz-Simon 'They've absolutely loved living there and they are creatives themselves,' Soffer said. 'They've actually recorded in that house, numerous bands over the years.' One of the most famous is The Association, the 1960s band behind hits like 'Cherish' and 'Windy.' Their connection to the property earned it a cameo in Linda McCartney's photography book, 'The Sixties.' The home's creative legacy doesn't stop at music, and has quietly played host to artists, sculptors and filmmakers over the decades. 'That place kind of attracts a very interesting crowd and has a very interesting creative energy to it,' Soffer said. 17 Nearly every surface inside the house is clad in wood, giving it the feeling of a forest cabin, while expansive rooftop decks offer panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles on one side and the towering Hollywood sign on the other. Lawrence Fitz-Simon Advertisement 17 'It's perched up in the trees, almost like a treehouse,' said listing agent Christopher Soffer. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 Despite its fame-adjacent location, the home has remained surprisingly peaceful, with the owners reporting no issues from tourists or passersby. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 It has also performed well as a short-term rental, earning spots in Travel + Leisure and the Emmy-winning show Staycation. Lawrence Fitz-Simon Though it's tucked into the hills, the property is not without modern acclaim. It has been featured on 'Staycation,' the Emmy-winning travel show, and was recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of California's best Airbnbs. Advertisement The owners even produce 'Hollywood Honey' on the premises, courtesy of a small hillside apiary tended by a local beekeeper. The house's positioning on the ridge yields dual vistas: the Hollywood sign at its back and sweeping views of downtown L.A., Griffith Park, and — on clear days — the Pacific Ocean at its front. 'When you are building on a site like that, the Hollywood sign is as direct as it gets,' Soffer said. 'When you're sitting on either of the rooftop decks, all you can see is the Hollywood sign… and on the front of the house, you have these panoramic views of the city.' 17 The property even features a honeybee colony producing 'Hollywood Honey' on a hillside perch. Lawrence Fitz-Simon Advertisement 17 The surrounding land is protected from overdevelopment, with only one neighboring lot eligible for construction. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 Soffer described the home as a rare architectural gem, especially in a city where A-frame homes are uncommon. Lawrence Fitz-Simon The listing also marks a nod to the roots of the surrounding area. 'Originally, Beachwood Canyon was built by a single guy and he had done it because he wanted to create a neighborhood that was perfect for Hollywood and studio production,' Soffer said. 'When they first built the Hollywood sign, it was actually almost like an advertisement for the neighborhood.' Advertisement At the time, the sign was even illuminated at night — a touch of glamor that has since disappeared. 'They actually used to have lights on the Hollywood sign, believe it or not,' Soffer said. 'I would love to see that today, but I think it might be a little bit too bright for the current landscape of the neighborhood.' Despite its proximity to a tourist magnet, the property offers peace and privacy. 17 'Being the closest house to the Hollywood sign in the world is as limited as it gets,' he said. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 A hot tub. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 17 One of four bedrooms. Lawrence Fitz-Simon 'They said everyone is so enamored by the sign, everyone's in such a good mood when they're up there,' Soffer said of the owners. 'They've never had any issues with break-ins or trespassing or anything like that over the years.' There's little risk of competition either: 'To the right of the property, if you're facing the property, there's only one other lot that can be developed,' Soffer noted. 'As of now, there's nothing on it. It's just a raw piece of land. And beyond that, it's pure wilderness.' It's that blend of exclusivity, architectural significance, and Hollywood history that Soffer believes makes the home one-of-a-kind. 'The architectural community loves these types of houses — A-frame houses,' he said. 'They aren't typical for Los Angeles, and when they do pop up, it's something to be cherished.'

‘Everyone Is Here': Fans After Avengers Doomsday's Set Pictures Hint At X-Men Location

Last Updated: A couple of pictures from the sets of Avengers: Doomsday have surfaced online, showing a 1960s house with the sign "Chicago." It seems like the X-Men's role in Avengers: Doomsday is becoming clearer with every latest update. At a time when the cast of the upcoming Avengers film has been revealed, including Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr., Marvel Studios still has a fair share of surprises with the latest set pictures teasing an epic crossover. The new photos reportedly feature a 1960s-era house that is being built in Windsor, with leaked plans suggesting it could be a X-Men scene. Being widely shared across social media platforms, the post shows the house with a metal windmill outside, featuring a sign that states, 'Chicago." Fans also mention a spaceship, but that's about all of the available information. With very limited ideas to go on, fans wasted no time joining the dots. One of the fans pointed out that Hank McCoy, also known as X-Men's Beast, was shown as a native of rural Illinois in Marvel Comics' history. Having said that, should the scene feature him and a spaceship, fans wondered if it could be a scene where Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) meets McCoy. Some suggested that the house could belong to Monica Rambeau, who was last seen in the X-Men universe in The Marvels. Others wondered if it is home to Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in alternate timelines. Interestingly, the ideas are largely speculative and remain unconfirmed. One wrote, 'Hank's from rural Illinois in the comics. If the ship does belong to Carol, maybe she's going to see Beast because that's where Monica is," while another added, 'Omg, is it Steve Rogers after he went back in time for Peggy?" I have a feeling it's gonna be Avengers: Eternity Wars or Avengers: Forever the 3rd part to Doomsday & Secret Wars I also find it a coincidence that they put that the same month as Doomsday & Secret Wars & year after Secret Wars or maybe it's an X-Men movie— ThatzJay (@NotThatzJay) June 19, 2025 On the other hand, various codenames are also being used for the house, referring to characters like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and even The Void. Speculations are rife that it has been named after Annie Reynolds aka Sentry's mother, and may feature something related to The Void. A second house is set to be built for 'AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY' at Windsor Great Park. It is named after 'Annie Reynolds', Sentry's mother, and will feature something related to The Void. (Via: — Marvel Updates (@marvel_updat3s) June 18, 2025 This is not the first set of pictures that has ignited speculation of the Avengers and X-Men crossover. Earlier this month, cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel, best known for his work on X-Men: Days of Future Past, dropped a first look at what appeared to be the franchise's X-Mansion. The picture added to the growing speculations about whether Marvel Studios has started laying the groundwork for the X-Men's much-awaited debut in the MCU. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026. Marvel Adds Possible Fourth Movie to 2028 Slate

Yara Sameh Disney announced on Wednesday that Marvel Studios is scheduled to release an untitled movie on December 15, 2028. It would be the fourth movie from the division set for that calendar year, with previously announced films scheduled for release in February, May, and November of 2028. Should all four films hold onto those dates — which is not nearly certain — it would be an unexpected move for the studio, given Disney CEO Bob Iger's recent public admission that Marvel 'lost a little focus by making too much.' 'We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,' Iger said during an investor call in May. 'We've also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we've all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.' It is quite unclear, however, whether Marvel will release four films in 2028. Disney has a history of holding onto release dates for feature projects well past when those films could realistically make those dates to ensure they remain available for other films from the company: Marvel's 'Blade' was removed from its November 2025 release date only after Disney was ready to slot the 20th Century Studios film 'Predator: Badlands' in its place. For 2026 and 2027, Marvel has significantly winnowed its feature slate. After 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' opens in July, the studio is producing two films in 2026 — 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (a co-production with Sony Pictures) in July and 'Avengers: Doomsday' in December; and two films in 2027 — an untitled project in July and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' in December. 'Secret Wars' is meant to be the finale of the Multiverse Saga, after which Marvel is expected to pivot to a saga centered around characters inherited in Disney's 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox: the X-Men. 'Thunderbolts*' director Jake Schreier has been tapped to helm the MCU's first mutant movie (although many actors from Fox's 'X-Men' movies in the 2000s, including Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, will appear in 'Doomsday'). Other Marvel projects in development that could wind up opening in 2028 include the aforementioned 'Blade,' 'Black Panther 3,' and a 'Fantastic Four' sequel. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

'Fantastic' period drama based on real events has fans completely 'hooked'

The Great is a historical and satirical TV comedy-drama loosely based on the rise and reign of Catherine the Great of Russia, the longest-ruling female in the country's history Fans are raving about this period drama, which boasts an all-star cast, sizzling romance, and 18th-century intrigue. The Great is a historical comedy-drama that draws inspiration from the life of Catherine the Great, Russia's longest-reigning female leader. The show follows Catherine's tumultuous marriage to Emperor Peter III, whom she plots to overthrow. ‌ Elle Fanning shines as Catherine II, bringing to life the complex and dynamic character. She's joined by Nicolas Hoult, who plays her husband with conviction. ‌ Hoult has built a reputation for his versatile performances in shows like Skins and films like the X-Men franchise and About A Boy. Rotten Tomatoes is filled with glowing reviews, with many praising the on-screen chemistry between the leads. One reviewer said: "The chemistry among this supremely well-cast ensemble of incredibly endearing characters was a marvel. Loved every minute of this series..", reports the Express. Another fan raved: "Truly a must-watch - raunchy, clever, witty, beautiful, breathtaking and shocking fun! I've been telling everyone I can. Why is this so under the radar? ? I'm a MAJOR Elle Fanning fan now. She held nothing back and rocked The Great in every way." While the inaugural season was well-received, the subsequent two seasons garnered critical acclaim, with every facet of the show - from the script to the costumes - earning praise. The series, a dark comedy, doesn't take itself too seriously and openly admits its historical inaccuracies, allowing for more creative freedom with its visual elements. The Great's success led to it being nominated for an impressive seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Additionally, both lead actors received Golden Globe nominations for their stellar performances throughout the show's brief duration. ‌ "I am hooked," one viewer admitted. "I am so happy that I stumbled upon this series. I adore the wit and drama, and the sex is enjoyable too!". Another glowing review said: "I love this show so much. How can something balance the funny and the abject so perfectly?"Gorgeous to look at; smarter by the episode; makes use of history without being burdened by it; irreverent, low-brow, high-brow, wonderful. "". Initially released on Hulu in 2020, the show was later renewed for a second season, which became a massive hit among telly fans. However, despite its success, the creators decided it was time to wrap up the story, and after its third season aired in 2023, it was announced that it would be the last of The Great - much to viewers' disappointment. Viewers had been keeping their fingers crossed that the drama would carry on, with one fan saying: "This show keeps getting better and better! It's witty, funny, and historically (in)accurate ;) casting is just fabulous, and I'm hoping we'll get many more seasons of this utterly ridiculous story." All three sidesplitting series of the hit period comedy-drama, The Great, can be streamed now on Amazon Prime and Channel 4.
