Thailand's Engfa Waraha & Dream Thanika Jenjesda Want ‘Lady Bee' To Re-Define The Female Gaze In Thai Filmmaking — Cannes Studio
Upcoming Thai film Lady Bee presents a re-imagining of the 1960s Thai novel 'The Story of Jan Dara,' with popular singer-actress Engfa Waraha headlining the film as the enigmatic Lady Boonleung.
In an interview at Deadline's Cannes studio, Waraha, alongside the film's co-writer and co-director Dream Thanika Jenjesda, shared that they are excited to present a new adaptation of the story — which has been remade before — from a female perspective for the first time.

Starring in just her second feature film after box office hit Paradise of Thorns, Waraha said, 'There's a lot of pressure because Paradise of Thorns was so well-received. This is my second role and I'm under pressure to do my best. I want to challenge myself as an actor and not just a star.'
Waraha won the Best Actress prize at the 2025 Thailand Box Office Awards for her role in family drama feature The Paradise of Thorns.
Besides acting, Waraha has also ventured into singing, appearing in the seventh season of The Voice Thailand. She revealed that the late legendary Thai singer Pumpuang is her biggest singing inspiration.
On her singing career, Waraha said, 'It was one of my biggest dreams and whenever I received good opportunities, I did my best to be the best I could.'
Set to begin principal photography in late-2025, Lady Bee follows Lady Boonleung, a woman unbound by the morality or power structures of her time and driven by a yearning for connection.
'My goal is not to be too vogue, vocal or preachy about it,' said co-writer and co-director Jenjesda. 'In Thailand, we're still a little bit conservative, a little bit suppressed in these of having male-dominated leading roles.'
She named directors Sofia Coppola and Wim Wenders among her filmmaking inspirations.
Lady Bee will also be co-directed by Rutaiwan Wongsirasawad (Dalah), with Julien Favre also onboard as co-writer. Pantham Thongsang will produce the film.
Looking ahead, Waraha has set her sights overseas too. 'I want more opportunities at an international level, perhaps taking a role alongside a Hollywood movie star or well-known international stars,' said Waraha. 'I want to challenge my English-speaking abilities.'

Ezra Miller has 'a lot of remorse' for past controversies, talks Hollywood comeback
After a shaky time in the spotlight, Ezra Miller isn't ready to sprint back to Hollywood. "The Flash" star, whose Hollywood ascent was derailed amid mounting legal issues, addressed their past controversies and future in the entertainment industry in an interview with Lo Speciale Giornale published June 19. Miller, 32, spoke to the Italian outlet shortly after attending the Cannes Film Festival in May for their first major red-carpet appearance since falling from grace. Miller said they appeared at the renowned film festival at the request of their friend, "Die My Love" director Lynne Ramsay, adding that their relationship with the movie industry is on "tentative grounds." "If you've been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes, where every photographer and every weirdo, every rich genocidal freak (will) be there, you know what I mean?" In a rare interview, Miller admitted they haven't given up on returning to the big screen. Although they didn't go into details, they confirmed it would happen on "tentative grounds." The "Fantastic Beasts" actor, however, touched on their shocking resurgence at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where they attended the premiere of Lynne Ramsey's "Die, My Love." Wearing a maroon tuxedo and beret, Miller barely interacted with photographers, briskly walking past with their head down. They refused to take any photographs. "I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsey—who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers," the actor explained. They revealed a collaboration with Ramsey on an unnamed project, saying they have been "writing a lot." Without giving specifics, Miller shared that the project will "likely be the first thing I do" upon their return. "I didn't necessarily want to go to Cannes. I had a bit of a hard time. That's a tough re-entry point." Miller said they made the big sacrifice because they would do "anything" for Ramsey. Later in the interview, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" touched on their past legal troubles and erratic behavior. Miller got philosophical, giving cryptic comments to describe the difficult time. "When we go through those crucibles, if we can survive, which was up in the air for me if I'm being real, we then have that capacity to see other people in their crucibles and just to reach towards them," they told the Italian publication. The 32-year-old continued, "I think that grows more and more rarefied in our world, too. Like, the capacity to do that, the desire to do that, the willingness to do that." They also confessed to being "very consumed in notions of perception." However, they managed to dig past that by "being a friend to people." Miller further spoke about those who were supportive during their troubles, saying, "They have my lifelong devotion." However, the DCU actor also became aware of those who abandoned them during their legal controversies. Discussing the betrayal, they said: "I'm grateful for the revelations of who was not that. When you work in this industry, you'll find yourself in deep, deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f-ck about you, or your well-being, at all." Ezra Miller's controversies date back to 2020, when a viral video showed the actor appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland. Although no charges were filed, things went downhill from there, with 2022 being his worst year. It began with a series of arrests in Hawaii. On different occasions, the New Jersey native was accused of causing a scene and harassing patrons at a karaoke bar. They were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, later pleading no contest and paying a $500 fine. Barely a month later, in April 2022, Miller got in trouble again for allegedly hurling a chair at a 26-year-old woman at a private party. They were slammed with a second-degree assault charge. Come June 2022, grooming allegations were levied against the "We Need To Talk About Kevin" star. They were also accused of breaking into a Vermont home to steal alcohol. Miller finally issued an apology in August of that year via a lengthy statement. "Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment," it read. "I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior."
