Top 20 most expensive cities in the world
It's not surprising that Monaco is the most expensive place to live in as it is very popular with the world's super wealthy. — Pixabay
France is famous for croissants, high-end cuisine, a rich and diverse cheese offering, as well as varied landscapes, which makes it a desirable vacation setting for visitors from all over the world.
In 2024, more than 100 million tourists paid a visit. In terms of visitor numbers, France ranked once again in 2024 as the world's leading tourist destination. But France is also attractive to the ultra-wealthy, as indicated by the numerous ultra-luxurious villas, houses and apartments.
A new report by Henley & Partners, which looks at migration patterns of the ultra-wealthy and assesses the preferences of the world's richest individuals to understand where they settle, reveals the country's considerable appeal among this demographic.
For instance, while Paris is behind Monaco, New York, Hong Kong and London in terms of most expensive city per square metre, France stands out as the country with the highest number of cities/towns with the highest prices per square metre in the world.
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, very close to Nice on the French Riviera, ranks fifth in this list of the most expensive destinations on the planet. The price per square metre is estimated at US$21,200 (RM93,088). The beautiful Mediterranean city outranks other wealthy celebrity havens such as Palm Beach, Miami Beach and Los Angeles in the United States.
According to Henley & Partners, France has the most expensive cities in the world. There is no shortage of examples: Paris is 6th, Nice 13th, Cannes 15th, Antibes 18th and the small village of Eze 20th.
Indeed, this reveals a concentration of wealth on the Cote d'Azur, not far from the Italian border. And unsurprisingly the city that tops the ranking, Monaco, is in this same geographical area. The price per metre outstrips the other destinations at US$38,800 (RM170,360).
Note that this ranking has been established based on the real estate value of the destinations analysed. When the concentration of the largest fortunes is taken as the metric, the podium becomes quite different, with New York and the Bay Area (which includes San Francisco and Silicon Valley) in the US, and Tokyo in Japan coming in as top cities for millionaires. – AFP Relaxnews

ENRA bags RM137m storage tanker deal
ENRA Group Bhd has secured a US$32.09 million (approximately RM136.56 million) contract to provide a storage tanker solution for upstream operations in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA), marking a significant win for the group's energy logistics business. The 12-month deal was formalised via a binding heads of agreement (HOA) between ENRA's wholly owned subsidiary, Hexagon Energy Logistics Sdn Bhd (HELSB), and SIP JDA Sdn Bhd. The contract period runs from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, and supports Carigali-PTTEPI's operations in the hydrocarbon-rich MTJDA. In connection with the announcement, Bursa Malaysia halted trading of ENRA's securities from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. today, pending the release of the material information. The counter resumed trading at 10.00 a.m. following the announcement. ENRA said the deal is expected to contribute positively to its earnings per share, net assets per share and gearing for the financial year ending March 31, 2026. The HOA does not involve any issuance of new shares and will not affect the group's capital structure. No directors or major shareholders of ENRA, nor any persons connected to them, have any direct or indirect interest in the HOA. — TMR

Italian energy group Eni sells 20pct of Plenitude to Ares for US$2.3bil
MILAN: Italian energy group Eni has sold a 20 per cent stake in its retail and renewables business Plenitude to US alternative investment manager Ares Management Corp for about 2 billion euros (US$2.30 billion), it said on Monday. The transaction is part of the Italian group's long-term strategy to find partners to jointly develop its businesses and follows the sale of a 10 per cent stake in Plenitude to Swiss investment fund Energy Infrastructure Partners. "Plenitude is an established leader in energy transition, with a differentiated business model and an outstanding track record," said Stefano Questa, co-head of European Alternative Credit at Ares. Deutsche Bank and UniCredit advised Ares, while Goldman Sachs and Mediobanca supported Eni on the deal, which gives Plenitude a 10 billion euro equity value, rising above 12 billion euros when including debt. Plenitude operates in more than 15 countries and combines more than 4 gigawatts of renewable energy production with a power and gas retail business. It has more than 10 million customers and manages a network of 21,500 charging points for electric vehicles. Ares, which had been looking to grow its presence in Italy, invested in Plenitude through its Ares Alternative Credit strategy, an asset-based finance operator which managed around US$43 billion in assets at the end of March. The overall platform of Ares Management, a global leader in private credit, had around US$546 billion of assets under management at the end of March.

Bursa's Energy Index breaks from pack on oil price rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia's Energy Index rose to the top of sectoral gainers, driven by a global rally in oil prices amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. It was the only index to post a gain of over one per cent, bucking the broader downtrend across sectors that persisted into the afternoon session. As at 3pm, the 31-stock Energy Index had climbed 1.32 per cent, or 9.73 points, to 745.44. Year-to-date, the index is still down 10.23 per cent. Reservoir Link Energy Bhd, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd and Dialog Group Bhd were among the most actively traded counters fuelling the sector's gains. At press time, Reservoir Link rose 1.35 per cent to 37.5 sen. The counter was the third most active with nearly 40 million shares changing hands, its highest single-day volume in at least six months. Hibiscus Petroleum led the gainers in the oil and gas space, surging 7.02 per cent or 12 sen to RM1.83 on 17.21 million shares traded. Bumi Armada Bhd edged up half a sen to 47.5 sen, while Dialog Group Bhd added four sen, or 2.60 per cent, to RM1.58 with 6.32 million shares traded. The rally in energy stocks followed a spike in global crude oil prices after United States military strikes on Iran intensified concerns of supply disruptions in the Middle East. Brent crude futures for August rose 2.4 per cent to US$79 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbed 2.5 per cent to US$73.84. Both benchmarks had earlier jumped as much as four per cent to hit four-month highs, with Brent briefly touching US$81 a barrel. At the time of writing, Brent and WTI were trading at US$77.51 and US$74.31 respectively, both up about 0.65 per cent on the day and marking their highest levels in a month. In Tehran, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed retaliation against "the Zionist enemy" in his first public statement since the US joined Israel's attacks on Iran. Market participants anticipate further price gains as fears grow that Iran may retaliate by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for about one-fifth of the world's crude oil supply. Back home, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 0.51 per cent, or 7.62 points, to 1,510.36, rebounding from last Friday's close of 1,493.19. Apart from energy, financial services was the only other sectoral index in the green, up 0.43 per cent. The day's biggest sectoral decliners were the Transportation & Logistics, Technology, and Healthcare sectors, which fell 1.28 per cent, 1.23 per cent and one per cent respectively.
