Gabrielle Union 'can't afford' the career she'd like
Gabrielle Union "can't afford" to star in as many independent films as she'd like.
The Bring It On actress - who has six-year-old daughter Kaavia with husband Dwyane Wade and is stepmother to his four children - doesn't have the "luxury" of complete creative freedom because she has to be mindful of how much money she brings in in order to look after her family, including her dementia-stricken father Sylvester Union.
Speaking at the American Black Film Festival, People magazine reports she said: 'More recently, my father is in memory care. You know, nursing homes, what's covered by insurance, what's not, home health aids — like that all adds up and having to really be cognisant of an additional output, I have to go where the money goes.
'I don't have the luxury of taking all the independent films that I want because I can't afford to pay for my extended family in the way that they have grown accustomed to."
Gabrielle, 51, believes many working actors these days need to have "multiple revenue streams" in order to supplement their income to afford more choice with their projects.
She said: 'I have to factor in endorsements and brands and brand building. When you see celebrities have five to 11 jobs, there's a reason.
'We don't get paid what y'all think that we get paid, and that check is split so many ways. You have to have multiple revenue streams to do the job that you really love. So it kind of depends on what I've made that year on how creative I can be — and that's a damn shame, but that's reality.'
Gabrielle previously spoke of her dad's struggle with dementia on his 80th birthday last October.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: 'My Dad has dementia. He definitely thinks Dwyane is still playing for the Heat but otherwise remembers quite a bit. He remembers all the great times he spent in Hawaii, so we brought some Hawaii to my Dad.
'He remembers his love of Crown Royal and missing his friends and being able to just hang out and talk s***, so his friends showed up and showed out.
'What dementia has robbed him of, his heart and soul have recovered.
When my Dad saw me, he said, 'I really love you.' And I said, 'I love you too Dad.' Then he replied, 'How's your Mom?' And with the gas face, I simply said, 'Sir.' He then asked if I was happy and I told him I was. He nodded and with a grin asked, 'You not taking no s*** are you?' And I said, 'Never.'
"He told me he loved me again and that interaction stayed with me all day and made me pretty emotional.
'It all just reminds me to be a good, loyal friend, a great neighbor, prioritize your family, have a spirit of adventure and don't take no s***. And always show up and show love. Happy Birthday Dad! I love you [heart emoji] (sic).'

Anna Camp defends age-gap romance
Anna Camp has defended her age-gap romance after going public with new girlfriend Jade Whipkey. The Pitch Perfect star, 42, unveiled her new relationship with Jade, who is 18 years her junior, when they walked the red carpet together at the Los Angeles premiere of her new movie Bride Hard last Wednesday (18.06.25) and now Anna has hit back at criticism by insisting Jade is "far more mature" than any of the men her age she's previously dated. In a post on Instagram, she wrote: "Thought I'd jump on here ... and just sayI've dated men exactly my age and Jade is FAR more mature than any of them. "We have more in common than anyone else I've ever dated and can literally talk about anything and everything." She added of the online trolls: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I'm wishing everyone well. Especially this Pride month." The couple's red carpet debut came after Anna previously shared one of Jade's posts on her Instagram page which included a sweet tribute to the actress. Alongside a picture of Anna, Jade wrote: "Her smile is a poem, her eyes are roses, her laugh is music for dancing." The pair previously answered questions about their dating history in a TikTok question-and-answer video posted back in February. In the clip, Anna opened up about her worst date, saying: "I left a date once because a guy was like 45 minutes late and I stayed and waited. "Then he said that I was prettier in a movie than I was in person, because I'm an actor, and I was like: 'Okay, bye'." Anna then asked Jade: "What about you, babe?" and she replied: "I think it was the only date I ever went on with a boy. And he kept calling me 'f*****' the whole time." When asked what they "expect" during a date with a man, Anna replied: "I don't expect anything. Not anymore because I'm dating a woman, and it's great." The actress was previously married Scrubs star Michael Mosley between 2010 and 2013 and she went on to wed her Pitch Perfect co-star Skylar Astin, 37, in 2016. The marriage broke down and they split in early 2019.

Cher's son released from hospital
Cher's son has been released from hospital. Elijah Blue Allman - whose father is the late Gregg Allman - was taken to a California medical facility on 14 June after "acting erratically" amid reports of a drugs overdose, but TMZ have confirmed he returned home "midweek" and is continuing to recover. According to the outlet, Cher's "only concern" is for her 48-year-old offspring's wellbeing and the 79-year-old singer is doing everything she can to get him the help he needs. Police previously explained the Deadsy rocker was "transported to the hospital" after cops were called to his house, and "deputies located drugs inside the home". Following Elijah's hospitalisation, his estranged wife, Marieangela King Allman, shared her "steadfast" support amid his "personal challenges". She told People magazine: 'While it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves. "Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggles — but it is important to recognise that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat. "Despite the assumptions that often colour how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose. "I want to state, without hesitation, that I will always root for him. My support is steadfast and comes from a place of deep respect for the person he is and the resilience he continues to show." In recent years, the Believe hitmaker sought to put Elijah under a conservatorship, but decided to drop the case towards the end of last year after they came to an agreement. Court documents revealed the development months after Cher's request for conservatorship over her son was denied by a judge in Los Angeles. At the time, the singer had filed an emergency request for Elijah to be placed under a temporary emergency conservatorship – claiming she 'feared that her son would not be alive within the year'. Cher's lawyers cited his treatment for schizoaffective disorder and revealed that in the past year he has been placed in several 5150s – a California legal code which allows a person with a mental illness to be involuntarily detained for a 72-hour psychiatric hospitalisation. A judge ruled against the proposal as Elijah proved he had 'managed his finances', has an apartment and 'remained drug free' after submitting 'several drug tests' during the proceedings. The judge also ruled there was not 'sufficient evidence' to agree to the temporary conservatorship, as much of what the mum and son were arguing was based on 'fears' and hypotheticals. Elijah previously revealed that he started using drugs when he was just 11 years old and came close to overdosing several times. In 2014, he told Entertainment Tonight: "I did have some close calls and some moments of really feeling at the edge of mortality ... I always kind of kept it a little bit safe but you never can do that."
