Water bills soon for residential property owners in PMC limits
Pune: Property owners in PMC limits may soon receive water bills based on their consumption as the civic body proposes to start distribution of the bills on a pilot basis.

(PMC), said, "A new proposal for better implementation of water metering services has been drafted. It will be implemented after due approvals."
PMC officials said water supply zones in the city where over 90% of water meters have been installed would be selected for the pilot project. A PMC official said 141 such zones had been finalised under the project, with around 80 zones having more than 90% water meters.
Currently, only commercial properties with meters are charged bills based on monthly usage. Residential properties receive a one-time water charge in property tax bills. The new proposal being finalised would include residential properties in the metered water supply system.
Citizens said that though they welcome the decision to install water meters, the system should be implemented properly. "The administration should ensure equal treatment for people from societies, big taxpayers, and slums as far as collection of tax is concerned.
The experience is not good as far as property tax is concerned. Common citizens are made to pay tax, but defaulters are allowed to benefit from amnesty schemes," said Shantanu Inamdar, a Kothrud resident.
Ashwini Pathak of Bavdhan said that the administration should ensure that citizens receive adequate water. "Many housing societies depend on tankers as enough water is not available to them. If the administration is going to charge for water from property owners, they must get enough water and not rely on tankers," she said.

According to activists, the administration must also assure good quality water supply with adequate pressure. "The administration had announced that it will provide 24x7 water supply while implementing the metered system. But it is not talking about its assurances and forcing people to install meters and charge them accordingly. The administration is sending a wrong message by threatening those with legal water connections," said Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch.
PMC officials said that the pilot project's data showed that water consumption is more than normal. The usage is nearly three times more in some cases. The need for metered water supply has been emphasised because of undue use of water. As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, 135 litres per capita per day (lpcd) has been suggested as the benchmark for urban water supply. For rural areas, a minimum service delivery of 55 lpcd has been fixed under Jal Jeevan Mission, which may be enhanced to a higher level by states.
Last week, PMC had told property owners to cooperate in installation of meters, stating that "their water connections will be snapped without any prior notice" if they don't cooperate. Water meters are being installed for 24/7 water supply project.
The installation of meters has faced obstacles due to various reasons, including opposition from locals. A shortage of chips also impacted production of water meters.
Civic records showed that water meter installations began eight years ago, and over 70% of the target has been met. Around 1.8 lakh water meters have been installed so far.

'The state government will strongly take up the matter of releasing the pending amount with the Centre,' he said. JJM is a flagship programme of the Union government being implemented in partnership with the states with the objective to provide tap water connection in every rural household. 'During the financial year 2024-25, out of ₹ 920 crore sanctioned, the state has received ₹ 137 crore and ₹ 783 crore was yet to be disbursed,' he said during the meeting. Progress of various developmental projects under the department were also reviewed. The deputy chief minister directed departmental officials to prioritise and complete all pending works within the fixed time frame. He said that effective management of water resources and ensuring reliable water supply remains a key priority of the present state government. He instructed the concerned officers to visit the field to monitor ongoing projects and address public grievances promptly and to submit the detailed reports of ground visits to the senior officers so that necessary action could be taken to address the issues. Agnihotri also asked the officials to prepare a detailed report regarding the Jal Rakshak who have completed 12 years of service in the department, so that the matter could be brought before the cabinet.

PMC receives ₹27crore from Centre for STPs

'The central government has already released ₹ 18.90 crore from the total amount on Saturday which will be used for updation and technology improvement at the nine STPs,' said Prithviraj BP. The PMC is also erecting ten more STPs under the river rejuvenation project and funds have been received by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). 'This will help to treat sewage water before releasing it into the rivers,' said officials.

Ensure timely implementation of schemes for holistic development of tribal areas: Rajasthan CM tells officials
Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to the welfare and holistic development of Scheduled Tribes and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) areas. He emphasised that the Rajasthan Scheduled Tribes Advisory Council is playing a vital role in ensuring the effective implementation of key schemes of both the Central and state governments. Presiding over the meeting of the Rajasthan Scheduled Tribes Advisory Council organised by the Tribal Area Development Department at the Chief Minister's residence on Friday, CM Sharma urged public representatives to actively support the ongoing Dharti Aaba Jan-Bhagidari Abhiyan, being held from June 15 to 30 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. He instructed officials to expedite the resolution of pending individual and community claims under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, and issue rights certificates without delay. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the timely and quality execution of projects sanctioned under the Tribal Area Development Department. He stressed the need to complete all works announced in the 2024–25 budget promptly and to accelerate implementation of the 2025–26 budget announcements. He also called for timely disbursement of scholarships to students through the School Education, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Higher Education Departments. Additionally, Sharma instructed departments to fast-track progress in Water Resources projects and initiatives by the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments. He emphasised quality construction in road projects and effective execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission. He further directed authorities to ensure timely electricity connections in tribal called for focused implementation of Central government initiatives, especially the Prime Minister TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, by ensuring patient identification and providing treatment assistance in the TSP areas. He urged officials to expedite the work approved under PM-Janman, and ensure 100 per cent benefit delivery to tribal families through initiatives like the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. He also emphasised the need to boost tribal livelihoods through the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana. The Chief Minister directed public representatives to actively participate in the upcoming Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Sambal Pakhwada, commencing June 24, to ensure last-mile delivery of welfare schemes to the needy. He also instructed officials to maintain high standards of food and nutrition at Maa-Baadi centers and to regularly inspect residential schools and hostels in TSP regions. Pending distribution of mini seed kits must be completed at the earliest, he added. Present on the occasion were Tribal Area Development Minister Babulal Kharari, Revenue Minister Hemant Meena, among others. Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant, along with Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and senior officials from various departments, also attended the meeting.
