Declare ‘Sitaare Zameen Par' tax-free: Divyang orgn to CM

Jaipur: Divyang Adhikar Mahasangh, an advocacy group for the rights of specially abled persons, urged chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to declare the newly released film 'Sitaare Zameen Par' tax-free in the state. In a letter to the CM, the president of the organisation, Hemant Bhai Goyal, wrote, "I humbly request that the recently released Hindi film 'Sitare Zameen Par' be declared tax-free in the state of Rajasthan. This film focuses on the lives, struggles, talents, and confidence of children with special needs (Divyangjan). It demonstrates how such children can be integrated into the mainstream through sports and sensitive leadership." "This will promote inclusion, equality, and a positive attitude towards specially abled individuals in society," he wrote. Goyal said the film reflects the spirit of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and promotes respect and inclusion for specially abled individuals in society. "It conveys a message of making specially abled children self-reliant through sports, aligning with the objectives of NEP 2020 and the inclusive sports policy," he wrote. "The film highlights mental health, self-esteem, and the role of family, which are essential social needs of our time," he further wrote. Goyal said the Rajasthan govt has always promoted the welfare and social harmony of specially abled individuals. "This decision will further strengthen those efforts. If the film is made tax-free, it will reach rural and low-income groups, increasing awareness and sensitivity towards such individuals among the public," he added.

BJP undermining its own govt on Yoga Day, alleges Jully

Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, Friday, accused the governing BJP of creating administrative confusion by bypassing its own govt's orders for International Yoga Day on June 21. He alleged that the party's interference in official functioning exposed how it was "side-lining and dominating" the state govt. On June 17, the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led govt, through the cabinet secretariat, directed ministers to oversee Yoga Day events in their charge districts to ensure smooth coordination. However, the BJP state unit issued its own list on June 19, assigning ministers to different venues — often outside their official jurisdictions. "This is a glaring example of how BJP is interfering in governance. Ministers are now caught between two sets of instructions — one from the govt and another from the party," Jully said, claiming it showed the party's intent to control administration through political diktats. For example, deputy CM Diya Kumari, who was supposed to be in Ajmer or Beawar, will now attend the City Palace event in Jaipur. Deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa has been asked to attend a Jaipur event instead of Bhilwara or Rajsamand. Cabinet minister Jogaram Patel, officially in-charge of Jaipur, is assigned to Jodhpur. Ministers like Kirori Lal Meena and Gajendra Singh Khimsar are also prioritising BJP-listed venues.

Expedite selection process for govt scheme benefits: DC

Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Darshan HV instructed govt departments to expedite the selection process of beneficiaries of schemes under various corporations and approve the benefits quickly. He spoke while presiding over a meeting of various committees of the social welfare department, at the deputy commissioner's office on Friday. He emphasised that it is not appropriate to delay processes such as the verification of beneficiary records, site inspections, and other procedures, as this results in eligible beneficiaries not receiving facilities in a timely manner. He advised that, if necessary, only the residential verification of beneficiaries should be conducted, and the facilities should be approved swiftly. To ensure equal access to beneficiary selection, a taluk-wise selection process will be considered, he said. The DC said discussions will be held with bankers regarding the rejection of applications under bank-based loan facilities due to low CIBIL scores. He instructed the officials of urban local bodies to report any accidents or deaths involving civic workers to the deputy commissioner office within 24 hours. The relief funds for civic workers should not be used for other purposes, he directed. Additional deputy commissioner G Santhosh Kumar emphasised that all departments should promptly select beneficiaries for SCP/TSP schemes and utilise the funds within the stipulated time. Hemalatha S, the deputy director of the social welfare department, said that in Dakshina Kannada, 24 Dalit atrocity cases were registered until the end of May 2025, and compensation of Rs 22.1 lakh was provided in 16 of these cases.
