PHOTOS: Crews battle Rowena Fire in Wasco County near I-84
PORTLAND, Ore. () — Fire crews are responding to the Rowena Fire, a brush fire that sparked Wednesday afternoon near Interstate 84 in Wasco County.
The fire at Milepost 78 was first reported around 1:38 p.m., according to authorities.
The size of the fire was initially unclear; however, officials have issued and shut down traffic on I-84 between The Dalles and Mosier (Milepost 64-82), according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The fire also led Oregon Governor Tina Kotek to issue the Emergency Conflagration Act to access more resources to fight the fire.
'This early season conflagration should come as a reminder to Oregonians to be ready for wildfire,' State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple said. 'The predictions for this summer are extremely concerning. I am asking everyone to take that extra minute to be mindful of the conditions and remember it takes a single spark to ignite a disaster.'
This is a developing story.
