Liverpool AGREE £50m transfer

Yahoo4 hours ago

According to the latest reports Liverpool have agreed a £50m transfer to sign a Premier League star.
It's already been a hectic summer of activity for the club's sporting director Richard Hughes and the spending spree is set to continue.

Liverpool have secured the arrivals of Armin Pecsi, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz so far. Those three alone would represent a brilliant summer of investment.
In Frimpong and Wirtz Liverpool will sign two of the best attacking talent in European football. Players who are the best in their positions in the world.
Meanwhile in Pecsi Liverpool have secured the future of an outstanding young goalkeeper, who is regarded among the best young players in his position as well, and who has the potential to become a future no.1 at Anfield.
But this is an overhaul for Liverpool this summer. Hughes and Edwards are working on a reset at the club and that will involve more players coming in and Liverpool having to spend the big bucks again.

The one who is likely next through the door is Milos Kerkez.
According to Duncan Castles speaking on the Football Transfers Podcast, Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Kerkez from Bournemouth.
He revealed that the total value of the deal to Bournemouth will be £50m.
That's different to other reports where it has been suggested that Liverpool have agreed a deal around £40m to £45m. But it also would not surprise us if the Reds did indeed agree a deal that could be worth up to £50m with perhaps add-ons.
After all, Bournemouth are not in a position where they have to sell their best players. And if they do sell them they will demand the very highest fees possible.

For Kerkez, £50m may seem like a steep prize but it's one Liverpool will believe is worth every penny.
The club has never really gone out of their way to make risky moves in the market under Michael Edwards' control. Naby Keita was perhaps the only questionable recruit, but nobody could have foreseen his injury woes.
With Kerkez, Liverpool have tracked him for a long time and have opened talks with him as early as November as exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch at the time.
The club's scouts will be absolutely convinced that the Hungarian is the best long-term player for the club. He fits into Arne Slot's vision of having fast full-backs bombing forward at every opportunity - a bit like how PSG play with Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.

Paying £50m for Kerkez is a huge sum. He will be one of the most expensive full-backs in the history of the game. But it's an indication of Liverpool's status at the moment.
The Reds are only planning to sign the very best in the game. That's why they have gone and recruited Frimpong, Wirtz and Pecsi and that's why they will now sign Kerkez as well.
It's a new dynasty that Hughes and Edwards are trying to build.

Report: Maserati Under Threat of Being Sold by Parent Company

According to a new report published by Reuters, the storied Italian performance powerhouse, Maserati, may be headed toward an uncertain future. The newswire states that "two sources familiar with the matter" told them that parent company Stellantis is exploring a potential sale of the Trident as part of a broader review of its massive portfolio of 14 distinct automotive brands. Discussions regarding Maserati began before Antonio Filosa was named the automaker's new CEO last month. Filosa's first day as CEO of Stellantis is Monday, June 23, where he will take the helm as Carlos Tavares's formal successor. Tavares, who led Stellantis from its inception, stepped down in December amid disappointing U.S. sales and inventory struggles and growing internal and external pressure to reassess the company's direction. Stellantis Chairman John Elkann has a plate and a half full when it comes to overseeing the company's wide range of global brands, which include the likes of Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Peugeot, and Alfa Romeo. The company is under pressure to streamline its operations and invest wisely. Stellantis is a publicly traded company listed on the stock exchanges of New York, Paris, and Milan, and financially savvy investors and analysts think that trimming down the 14-brand lineup could boost Stellantis' margins. Back in April, they brought in McKinsey & Co., a consulting firm based in New York, to examine the impact of new U.S. tariffs and explore options for Maserati and Alfa Romeo. According to the sources cited by Reuters, selling one or both brands is on the table, but any decisions are still in the early phases. In an emailed statement to Autoblog, a Maserati spokesperson provided the following statement: "A spokesperson for Stellantis stated: 'Respectfully, Maserati is not for sale.'" Additionally, a McKinsey spokesperson told Autoblog in a separate emailed statement that they "have no comment for this story." The timing of the Trident's review coincides with its efforts to position itself to navigate some significant industry challenges. Chinese brands and their affordable, tech-forward offerings are eating into the European market share. Like other European automakers, Stellantis is also trying to navigate the steep U.S. import tariffs recently imposed by President Donald Trump, which can greatly impact import brands like Maserati and the expensive motors it imports in smaller numbers. Unlike Stellantis brands like Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler, no Maserati comes from a production facility in North America; all of Maserati's U.S. lineup is exclusively imported from Italy. Maserati's performance has been underwhelming, as it faces tough ground in its key markets. According to Maserati Chief Executive Officer Santo Ficili, about 35% to 40% of its customers are American. In 2024, Maserati posted an adjusted operating loss of €260 million ($298 million) as it sold just 11,300 units, with 4,819 of those cars reaching drivers in the United States. One of the sources who talked to Reuters said that Stellantis is starting to realize it has more brands than it can really focus on, adding that it needs to "set priorities" with the matter. They also report that some board members are split on this scenario: some think selling Maserati is the best move, while others worry that getting rid of its only luxury brand would hurt the company's reputation. This is not the first time that Maserati has been speculated to be sold. Notably, last year, comments from former Stellantis CFO Natalie Knight suggested that the Trident may be on the way out at the 14-brand automaker, which has sincebeen refuted. However, what we solidly know is that Maserati and Alfa Romeo's brand CEO said that it has a turnaround plan as soon as Filosa takes the helm on Monday, the 23rd. In a June 5 interview with Reuters, he not only denied that Stellantis was selling Maserati, but he also expressed optimism over the future of the Trident and that Filosa will back potential plans, which include new products on the horizon. "We have clear ideas about what we want to do, and we hope we can be ready very soon. Let's wait for Antonio to take up his job," Ficili told the newswire. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Enzo Maresca says Nicolas Jackson red cards will not impact his Chelsea future

Enzo Maresca insisted that Nicolas Jackson's indiscipline is not putting his Chelsea future at risk after the striker received his second straight red card in his last four appearances for the club in a 3-1 defeat against Flamengo in the FIFA Club World Cup. Jackson was dismissed by referee Ivan Arcides Barton Cisneros in the 68th minute at Lincoln Financial Field — only four minutes after coming off the substitutes bench to replace £30million signing Liam Delap — after raising his studs to the ankle of Flamengo defender Ayrton Lucas. Advertisement Chelsea were already 2-1 down, having conceded twice in three minutes to Bruno Henrique and Danilo after Pedro Neto had given them a first-half lead. Flamengo substitute Wallace Yan then added a third to seal Flamengo's victory and all but ensure that Maresca's team are playing for second place in Group D. Jackson — who issued an apology on social media shortly after full time — will now miss Chelsea's final group match against Esperance de Tunis on Tuesday, but FIFA have the power to review and increase his suspension if they deem a one-match ban insufficient. He will also sit out the first match of the new Premier League season against Crystal Palace on August 17 as he serves the final match of his ban for the red card he was shown against Newcastle United in May after he caught Sven Botman with his elbow. Asked if Jackson's red cards are putting his Chelsea career at risk with Delap now poised to get a sustained run as the team's first-choice striker, Maresca replied: 'No, the red card has nothing to do with Nico's future. He had the first one against Newcastle when Liam was not even here and another one (against Flamengo). 'I'm not sure that it's 100 per cent a red card but the referee decided for that, and Nico knows very well that in both situations (it) was not something good for the team.' Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone, Marc Cucurella revealed that Jackson apologised to his Chelsea teammates in the dressing room after the match. 'He's very sad,' he said of Jackson. 'He tried to win the ball, had the bad luck that he kicked his leg and that's it. He's a young player with a lot of quality but maybe needs to improve a little bit in these things. He has to learn. After the manager spoke, he said sorry, he didn't do it on purpose. He's a very important player for us, we miss him the next game but this is football.' Jackson also apologised publicly with a statement on Instagram. 'Another red card… and honestly, I'm so angry at myself,' he wrote. 'I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation.I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility.' Advertisement Flamengo coach Filipe Luis was firm that Jackson's tackle merited a straight red card, but backed the Senegal international to recover and continue to grow in his career. 'He's so good, he's young, he has all the potential, all the quality that the club needs,' Filipe Luis said of Jackson. 'For sure he will surpass this little mistake. It was clear. I saw it in front of me, and for me it was a red. But it's just a small detail for a big player who can be one of the biggest strikers in the world.'

Creative industries to get £380m boost ahead of industrial strategy launch

Britain's film, music and video game industries are set to receive millions of pounds of investment as the Government seeks to ensure the UK's place as a creative superpower. The investment, announced by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, will see £380 million spent on a range of projects intended to double private investment in the creative industries. Ms Nandy said the investment would 'boost regional growth, stimulate private investment, and create thousands more high-quality jobs'. The figure includes £25 million for research into cutting-edge technologies such as the virtual avatars used in Abba Voyage, and £75 million to support the film industry. It will also see £30 million put towards backing start-up video games companies – an industry worth billions of pounds to the UK – and another £30 million for the music industry, including an increase in funding for grassroots venues. Another £150 million will be split between the mayors of Manchester, Liverpool, the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, the North East and the West of England to support creative businesses in their regions. The announcement comes as the Government prepares to publish its industrial strategy next week, billed as a 10-year, multibillion-pound plan to back certain sectors and secure growth for the UK economy. The creative industries are set to be one of the winners, with a plan for the sector expected to be published alongside the wider industrial strategy. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said: 'The UK's creative industries are world-leading and have a huge cultural impact globally, which is why we're championing them at home and abroad as a key growth sector in our modern industrial strategy.' But earlier this month, the Government also rejected a planning application for a major new film studio near Holyport, in Berkshire, over its impact on the green belt. The £380 million has been welcomed by the industry, with the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union (Bectu) saying it was a 'show of commitment to the sector'. But Bectu chief Philippa Childs said creative workers would also be looking for 'sustained support' from the Government as the sector 'recovers from a series of external shocks'. Recent years have seen the sector rocked by Covid, the cost-of-living crisis and concerns about the impact of AI and Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs on films made outside the US. Conservative shadow culture secretary Stuart Andrew accused Labour of threatening the 'very survival' of the creative industries. He said: 'From their national insurance jobs tax to their business rates hike, Labour are pushing creative businesses to the brink, and we now know that Rachel Reeves has a secret plan to raise taxes – meaning things will only get worse. 'Labour must recognise that their economic mismanagement is dealing a devasting blow to the sector.'
