Hideo Kojima Changed Death Stranding 2 Because People ‘Like it Too Much'
Death Stranding was already polarizing when it came out, and with the second game incoming, it's been revealed that 'polarizing' is exactly what Hideo Kojima wants out of his games.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Death Stranding 2 composer Woodkid reveals that Kojima opened up to him about a problem early in production where play testers 'liked it too much.' Woodkid explained:
'There's a key moment where we had a discussion, probably halfway [through] when we were doing the game, where he came to me and he said, 'We have a problem.' Then he said, 'I'm going to be very honest, we have been testing the game with players and the results are too good. They like it too much. That means something is wrong; we have to change something.'
According to Woodkid, Kojima thought that if the game was being generally well-received, that means that it's 'not triggering enough emotions.' Woodkid continued to explain:
'And he said, 'If everyone likes it, it means it's mainstream. It means it's conventional. It means it's already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don't want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn't like when they first encountered it, because that's where you really end up loving something. And that was really a lesson for me; not doing stuff to please people, but to make them shift a little bit and move them.''
If you've followed Hideo Kojima, you'll know that he's considered to be a modern auteur, and even though he's admittedly not for everyone, he does have a loyal fanbase who are always in for the ride that Kojima is promising them.
We don't know if DS2 will end up polarizing enough, but maybe Kojima is aiming for The Last of Us Part II levels of backlash. I wonder how it will change the movie adaptation.
Watch out for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach when it comes to PS5 on June 24.

Watch The Official Death Stranding Recap Before the Release of DS2
June is going to be a big month for Hideo Kojima fans as PlayStation gears up for the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. If you know anything about the Metal Gear Solid series, you'll know that the story is confusing as hell, and the same can be said for Death Stranding ; now PlayStation has released an official recap for players who are getting into the sequel. Check this out: The recap essentially sets up the world and Sam's (Norman Reedus) connection with all the other characters that will be coming back for On the Beach including Fragile (Lea Seydoux) and his Bridge Baby partner Lou. We also get a look at Higgs (Troy Baker) who is expected to come back in an all-new form in DS2 , complete with an electric guitar weapon for maximum aura. The way these video game sequels are made, they're kind of designed for anyone to just jump in without playing the originals, so it should be no problem if you want to get into Death Stranding without having to get into the first game—which admittedly was divisive when it first came out way back in 2017. We don't know if Kojima plans to complete more of these Death Stranding titles down the line, but it has been announced that he has several other projects incoming including a horror game OD which stars Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer; plus Jordan Peele is also attached as a writer. We don't know when we'll get a new look, but it's possible we'll get something after the hype of On the Beach dies down. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach comes to PlayStation this June 26.

LEGO Sets Revealed for Netflix's One Piece
A lot of people are getting hyped for the second season of One Piece , and though they didn't have much merch in the first season, LEGO has revealed their new sets based on the live-action version of the Straw Hat Crew. Here's the official reveal: Hey there, Nakama! Are you ready for a grand adventure with the Straw Hats in LEGO bricks? 🏴☠️ Be the first in line – pre-order now. Link in bio.#LEGO #LEGOOnePiece #OnePiece #Netflix — ONE PIECE(ワンピース) Netflix (@onepiecenetflix) June 5, 2025 According to Netflix, the sets will include the Going Merry ship, Battle at Arlong Park, Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent, the Windmill Village Hut (with Shanks and Kid Luffy), and the largest set in the wave, The Baratie Floating Restaurant which not only includes the main Straw Hat crew, but some minifgs for the Navy characters and Mihawk as well. Source: Netflix, LEGO Seeing that this is LEGO, we should also expect a lot of playability with the sets as well. Just like in the series, Arlong's tower can also split in half and collapse; and Buggy's circus is full of all kinds of traps that he can put the crew in like a water tank and a cage. I'll admit, a lot of these sets are pretty great, and there's a great way to get several minifigs, even if you don't purchase the bigger sets. The Buggy set alone gets you three members of the Straw Hats; if I do have a gripe though, they should have probably added Zoro and Sanji to the Arlong Park set, but at least you get Usopp? THE ONE PIECE… THE LEGO ONE PIECE IS REALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! — THE EVIL MIRACLE_MALICE (@MiracleSenpai) June 5, 2025 Though Netflix was considered to have been cursed when it came to anime adaptations, One Piece managed to break the mould, and everyone is excited for the Straw Hats to come back with the second season. The One Piece LEGO sets come out on Aug. 1. Season 2 for One Piece is set to come out in 2026.
