Julianne Moore Questions If Her Daughter Sydney Sweeney Is a Murderer in ‘Echo Valley' Trailer
Could Sydney Sweeney be a murderer, and if so, would her mother Julianne Moore even care?
Such are the questions at the center of the highly-anticipated Apple Original Film 'Echo Valley,' directed by 'Beast' and 'Encounter' filmmaker Michael Pearce and written by 'Mare of Easttown' scribe Brad Inglesby. Sweeney stars as Claire, the troubled daughter of Kate (Moore), who shows up on her doorstep covered in someone else's blood. 'As Kate pieces together the shocking truth of what happened, she learns just how far a mother will go to try to save her child in this gripping tale of love, sacrifice and survival,' the logline reads. The film is set on the secluded Echo Valley Farm in Pennsylvania, with the tagline teasing that the feature is a 'heart-pounding thriller about just how far a mother will go to save her child.'

Kyle MacLachlan, Edmund Donovan, Domnhall Gleeson, and Fiona Shaw co-star. 'Echo Valley' is produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Films and The Walsh Company, with Michael Pruss, Ingelsby, and Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company under his multi-year Apple TV+ producing deal. Pruss and Ingelsby developed the script together. The film will be executive produced by Scott Greenberg, Scott Free's Rebecca Feuer, and Nicole Jordan-Webber. Erika Olde and Sam Roseme will also executive produce through Black Bicycle Entertainment. Tanja Tawadjoh will co-produce.
Sweeney told Vanity Fair that she watched hundreds of YouTube videos of addicts interviewed on Los Angeles' Skid Row to prepare to play Claire. She also drew from personal encounters with addicts as well. 'I've had a lot of family members deal with addiction and then struggle with similar issues as Claire and her friends, and her group that she hangs out with,' Sweeney said. 'I've kind of had firsthand experience with it. I mean, there's a manipulation underneath a lot of it. But when there was love in the air in the room, you truly still felt it. The person that they are at the core, as buried as they might be, is still there.'
Director Pearce credited Sweeney for going all out for the role, saying, 'It's kind of spooky how quickly she can get to a very raw emotional place when you call 'action,' and she's just straight away exactly where the character needs to be. Which is often a very place of extreme emotional duress. Then you'd call cut and maybe change your lens, and she's very light. You'd call 'action' again, and she's straight there in a matter of seconds.'
Pearce continued, 'The way that she was screaming at Julianne, I thought she was going to burst her eardrum. It was so intense. But as soon as we called 'cut,' they were just laughing. They were just so happy to get their teeth stuck into such a meaty scene.'
And co-lead Moore hinted at just how twisted the film is: 'These are my favorite kinds of movies: movies about relationships,' Moore said. 'What will people do for one another? What kind of decisions do you make? How far will you go? I'm kind of curious what the reaction will be,' she says. 'There will be a sense, certainly, among parents going, like, 'well, would I do that? How far would I go?' You're left with those questions.'

'I can't confirm or deny.' Then, the Anyone but You star quipped, 'Who knows, that could be AI,' to which Fallon joked, 'No, it can't.' Sweeney did say she'd 'love to' dish the scoop on the scene 'next time when I [come back to the show and] can actually say everything.' Despite not being able to share details on her character's potential wedding, what fans speculate is with Jacob Elordi's Nate, the two-time Emmy nominee confirmed that 'Cassie is crazy' in season three and 'she's even worse' than seasons prior. This wasn't the first time Sweeney revealed that her character in Cassie would be 'crazier' than before. In a interview with Empire magazine, she said that season three of Euphoria was 'unhinged' while raving about her love for the role. 'I have such a spot in my heart for Cassie, and I hold her really close and dear. She is crazy. She makes so many mistakes. She's flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love. It could be a sad version of love, as well,' Sweeney said. 'It's so much fun to play a character that is as crazy as she is. Sam [Levinson] is such a brilliant filmmaker to work with, because I'll read something, then I'll call him, and I'm like, 'Let's go crazier.' And he's like, 'I'm all in.' And this season is unhinged.' Notably, Euphoria season two aired in early 2022. Production on the long-awaited third season picked up in January 2025, though it's unclear when the new installment will actually arrive on the streamer. Even if season three arrives in January 2026, as suspected, there will still have been four years between the most recent season, creating a demand for new episodes. Avengers: Doomsday Set Photos Tease Possible X-Men Scene
Fans are theorizing that a new batch of set photos could be from a scene featuring the X-Men. The new set photos come from the Marvel subreddit and showcase a 1960s-style house with a metal windmill outside of it. The post says that the windmill also features a sign that says 'Chicago' on it, but that's about all of the information available. A mention of a spaceship was also made, with no such prop being on the property just yet. Although there is little information to go on, fans quickly began piecing together connections. One fan pointed out that Hank McCoy — also known as the X-Men's Beast — is from rural Illinois in Marvel Comics' history. Should the scene feature him and a spaceship, fans theorized that it could be a scene where Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) visits McCoy. Several X-Men characters are confirmed to appear in the upcoming movie, including Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen's Magneto, Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, James Marsden's Cyclops, and Channing Tatum's Gambit.

How ‘Materialists' Finds True Love in New York City
Location work is not usually considered one of the 'creative' departments on a film. Of course, they work with the director and the production designer to find spaces that will work for specific scenes that can't or shouldn't be shot on a set, but theirs is the unsexy work of negotiating contracts with owners, securing all the needed permits, and handling the crew's impact on locations. Yet director Celine Song credits a great deal of the push-pull yearning of her second feature, 'Materialists,' to that location work. New York City is not the easiest place to shoot, but it was important to Song for the film to reflect the realities of what it's like to live in New York. The apartments and streets in which the characters fight and make up and make out are characters in and of themselves. 'Location management in this film is a creative position. We were talking pretty creatively — my DP, my line producer, my production designer, and my location manager — we're all trying to solve problems together,' Song told IndieWire on an episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. 'Joe was the first to notice — because he has to permit every time a character smokes — that Lucy [Dakota Johnson] never smokes with Harry [Pedro Pascal]. She only smokes with John [Chris Evans]. And of course eventually the actors figured that out, too, but Joe was the first,' Song said. 'It's a very specific perspective.' The perspective was an extremely important one for 'Materialists,' which is so specific to New York and yet contains a much wider historical scope. It begins with and then later checks in on a very early, prehistoric marriage, after all, and Song and Mullaney were delighted to find a corner of Central Park where a bridge could echo the sense of a cave, and visually merge the two storylines at the end. ' It requires Joe's lifetime, his whole career, of building trust in New York City. He needs to have a good reputation for being somebody who can be trusted to give you their space. So I'm relying so much on his work even before my movies, you know?' Song said. But something that pervades both of Song's movies, 'Materialists' and 'Past Lives' is how living in New York forces the characters to move through the echoes of millions of other people's lives. Visually, that sense was something no amount of B-Roll or establishing drone footage could create. The characters had to be in and of the city. It's part of the romance Song wanted to create. 'Public spaces in New York are the most romantic places, because you know that you're not the first couple to have an argument there. Like, [on] every corner of New York City, someone has peed there, someone has slept there, someone has had a huge argument there, and someone has kissed there,' Song said. 'We're shooting in New York City, which is expensive and difficult — just like living in New York City. But [it's] romantic and rewarding — just like New York City. We were sort of acknowledging, well, if you're doing it, you might as well do it.' That meant going all out on streets and stoops, especially in relation to John. His apartment isn't exactly conducive to heartfelt conversations, but Lucy's isn't that much better, either. And the fact that they can't be fully comfortable or private in the spaces they live changes how the characters move through the world and desire each other. ''Materialists' is about the way that the cynic and the romantic are in conversation, and in a bit of a tussle,' Song said. 'New York City is exactly that. To live in New York City, you have to be a romantic because the quality of living is not high enough for it to be possible for anybody who is not romantic in some way… but on the other hand, part of surviving in New York City is that you have to have a healthy dose of cynicism, too. [The city] just encapsulates that amazing balance. [So] it was always fundamentally a thing that we wanted to shoot in New York City.' 'Materialists' is now playing in theaters.
