Fever affect children in Andhra Pradesh's Neredubandha; tribals demand holding of medical camp in village
As many as 13 children are suffering from fever for the past few days at Neredubandha, a hilltop tribal hamlet of Cheemalapadu panchayat of Ravikamatham mandal in Ankapalli district, in Andhra Pradesh.
Girijan Sangham leaders have sought immediate visit by district-level officials and holding of a health camp to treat the children.
The tribal people say that there are 14 tribal families, belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) 'Kondh' tribe, who have been living there since long. Children have been suffering with fever for the past three days. The village has no ASHA worker or an Anganwadi Centre. The children have to trek 6 km every day to reach their school at Z. Zogumpeta and back. They said that one of the children Killo Prabhas was already admitted to the Area Hospital at Narsipatnam while the remaining were suffering with fever in the village.
The officials have not undertaken malathion spraying in the hamlet on the plea that the name of the village is not in their records, say Pangi Chandrayya, Girijan Sangham district president, PVTG Sangham president Gemili Vasu. This was resulting in the proliferation of mosquitoes and spread of viral fevers.
CPI(M) district secretariat member K. Govinda Rao said the tribal people have decided to stage a protest with 'dolis' at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), if a medical camp was not organised in the village by the end of this week. He appealed to the Collector to visit the village and do justice to the people.

700 PVTG ration card holders out of Ayushman in Palamu
1 2 3 Daltonganj: Around 7,000 ration card holders belonging to the particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) communities in Palamu are yet to get the Ayushman card. There are around 14,000 PVTG ration card holders in the district. This was detected during the review meeting of the health services by deputy commissioner Sameera S on Monday. "All ration card holders of the PVTG should be provided with the Ayushman card at the earliest," she directed civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar. Speaking to TOI, Dr Kumar said, "Aadhaar cards of the PVTG ration card holders have not been updated. Further, they are not linked to mobile phones, which is a major reason of the gap." The issue of middlemen influencing blood bank was also raised. The DC told the officials, "I received three complaints in one week about middlemen dominating the blood bank. Identify such elements and control them. It's unacceptable." The issue of ambulances was also taken up. Last week, an accident victim died in the sub-divisional hospital in Hussainabad as there was no oxygen nor could she be taken to any higher centre as the driver had left his ambulance parked and taken the key.

Koragas warn stir over low-quality food
Udupi : Members of the Koraga community , designated as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) and residing in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, have expressed grave concerns regarding the poor quality of nutritional food supplies distributed through govt welfare programmes. The community members stated that they were facing health issues such as anaemia, tuberculosis, malnutrition, and a declining population. In response, the govt supplied nutritional food to Koraga families for many years. However, in the past two months, the quality of the nutritional supplies, including ghee, oil, chickpeas, pigeon peas, sugar, jaggery, green gram, rice, palm oil, and eggs, was poor, making them unfit for consumption and causing several health problems for the Koragas, stated Federation of Koraga Associations president Susheela Nada and coordinator Puthran Hebri. A petition was submitted to the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) office, but there was no response to the main demands of the Koragas. Subsequently, a request was also submitted to the deputy commissioner of Udupi, urging the govt to immediately cancel the old tender, call for a re-tender, and ensure the supply of quality nutritional food. If the serious issues of the Koragas are not addressed promptly, a severe protest will be organised in front of the Udupi deputy commissioner's office by the Koraga organisations, they added. When contacted, ITDP officer Narayana Swamy said that the issue was brought to the notice of the department and a meeting in this regard will be convened by deputy commissioner K Vidya Kumari on Monday. The tender to supply nutritional food was invited at the state level. The contractor was directed to replace the poor-quality nutritional food that they supplied. Further, notice was also served to the contractor, who will also be attending the DC's meeting, he added.
