All-electric hot hatch pumps out 478kW of power and 770Nm of instant torque.
The 103rd running of what is without a doubt the most iconic hill climb event in the world, Pikes Peak, kicks off this weekend.
First ran back in 1916, it's a high-altitude hill climb that tests man and machine equally with its 156 corners and 20km of flat-out racing. With no room for error and the outrageously high speeds attained, there is always action a plenty.
The defending champion is Romain Dumas. He blitzed the hill in a time of eight minutes 53.553 seconds in a Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck to be crowned King of the Mountain. Dumas is no stranger to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, having competed in the event nine times already. He is the current overall Pikes Peak record holder with a time of 7:57.148. A feat he achieved back in 2018 while driving the Volkswagen I.D. R.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N enters fray
Pikes Peak is an event that attracts all sorts of entries. One such entry that caught our eye is the Evasive Motorsports Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak car. Established in 2002 and based in Cerritos, Southern California, this new collaboration with Hyundai North America is Evasive Motorsports' most ambitious EV project to date. They have taken a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N off the showroom floor and engineered it into a hill climb monster.
Here's the kicker, because the electric motors of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N can't be tuned, they will be left in standard road-going trim. And believe it or not, even though this setup offers 478kW of power and 770Nm of instant torque (with N Grin Boost activated), it's not enough to take a class win.

Shedding some weight
Evasive Motorsports have prioritised other areas of the car to find the pace they require. These measures come in the form of extra downforce and weight saving, where their in-house EVS Tuning division successfully shaved 226kg from the car. This was achieved by stripping the interior and fabricating four doors and the tailgate from carbon fibre.
Voltex Japan provided its expertise in crafting the one-off aero-enhancing components using 3D scans. These parts include a front lip, carbon fibre splitter, side skirts, fender flares, underbody aero panels, and a massive rear wing to provide the necessary downforce for the Evasive Motorsports Hyundai Ioniq 5 N that takes on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado in the United States.
Krontec air jacks allow easy removal of the lightweight forged racing wheels. You have 11-inch Titan 7 T-P10 alloys running on 310/690 VR19 Yokohama A005 racing slicks doing duty here.
Veteran behind steering wheel
Additional modifications include prototype EVS Tuning anti-roll bars front and rear, a custom six-point roll cage fabricated by Eimer Engineering. The Evasive Motorsports Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak car also features a one-off Moton coilover suspension designed by Mike Kojima from MotoIQ.

Returning for this 2025 Pikes Peak attempt is veteran driver Rob Walker who has competed in the Evasive Motorsports Scion FR-S and Toyota 86 from 2013 to 2016. Walker is eager to get back into his Pikes Peak race rhythm and has been using sim racing to refresh his muscle memory of the 20km sprint.

Hyundai goes aero-mad with Pikes Peak-prepped Ioniq 5 N

There is plenty of motorsport happening today, including Formula 1 and Le Mans, but here is a look at something that takes aero to another level. Hyundai and Evasive Motorsports have prepared a bespoke Ioniq 5 N for this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday. Looking for a new or used Hyundai? Find it here with CARmag! Driving duties fall to Rob Walker, a Pikes Peak veteran who previously ran a Scion FR-S. The car has been overhauled specifically for the 103rd running of the event. Evasive Motorsports calls it their 'most ambitious EV project to date', and that's not just marketing talk. The Ioniq 5 N has dropped 227kg thanks to a fully stripped cabin and extensive use of carbon fibre. That includes new doors, a custom tailgate, and other lightweight components. Finding race-ready parts for the Ioniq 5 N wasn't easy. With limited aftermarket support, Evasive turned to Japanese aero firm Voltex, which came up with a bespoke body kit. It includes a carbon front splitter, flared fenders, side skirts, underbody panels, and a massive rear wing — all designed to boost downforce for the high-altitude climb. The car's upgrades go beyond aerodynamics. Krontec air jacks help with fast servicing, and 19-inch Titan wheels wrapped in Yokohama slicks provide grip. A Moton coilover suspension with prototype anti-roll bars from EVS Tuning sharpens handling. Inside, a six-point roll cage and a single Sparco carbon fibre seat take care of safety, while CSG Spec pads handle braking. Related: Road Test: Hyundai Alcazar Executive diesel AT The dual-motor setup remains stock, still pushing 478kW and 769Nm to all four wheels. That's enough to get the standard Ioniq 5 N from 0–100km/h in 3.25s and on to 261km/h. 'We've come close in the past and feel it's far more achievable with the Ioniq 5 N,' said Evasive Motorsports co-president Mike Chang. Toyota starts teasing new SUV rumoured to be the all-new RAV4

Despite being seven-year old, the RAV4 unseated the Ford F-150 to become the best-selling new vehicle in the United States in 2024. Although not named outright, the official teaser image by Toyota has already been hinted as being that of the all-new RAV4. Image: Toyota Toyota has released first teaser images of a new SUV it will debut on 21 May, without going into detail or indeed providing an actual exterior shot neither blacked-out or blurred. Released by both its North American and European divisions, the overhead shots provide no hints apart from what looks like to be fitting of a glass sunroof. Global top three best-seller According to several online publications though, the images preview that of the all-new generation RAV4 that officially became the third best-selling nameplate in the world last year with an offset of 1.02-million units. ALSO READ: Report claims current Toyota RAV4 continuing until 2025 Of this, 475 193 were sold in North America, which saw it dethrone the Ford F-150 for the title of best-selling new vehicle. First sighted undergoing testing in January this year, the sixth generation RAV4 will replace the current XA50 that debuted back in 2018 and subsequently as the rebadged Wildlander in China the following year, and in Europe in 2020 as the restyled Suzuki Across. Inside and out Spotted by in the initial spy shots, the RAV4 retains its boxy looks, but appears more upright and more reminiscent of the current Nissan X-Trail. Here's our first look at the next-generation Toyota RAV4. Even through the camo, we can see that the next-generation SUV will have a more upright look while incorporating design elements from the Toyota Crown Signia. — Motor1 (@Motor1com) January 28, 2025 According to the publication, it will, however, be styled to closely resemble the Crown Signia that replaced the slow-selling Venza, known in South Africa as the Lexus RX, in the United States last year. More intricately though, the Toyota Europe media site provided slightly details with the reveal of the newcomer's interior. Interior represents a huge departure from that of the old RAV4. Image: Toyota Europe Seemingly modelled on the all-electric bZ4X, the cabin boasts the same steering wheel, a box design for the digital instrument cluster binnacle, a deep recess on top of the latter for the Head-Up Display, and a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system. PHEV and hybrid expected Still utilising physical buttons on the steering wheel, the rest of the interior appears equally derived from the Tacoma bakkie, though as before, the RAV4 will continue to ride on a unibody platform seemingly set to be a revised version of the current TNGA-K. Current fifth generation RAV4 has been on-sale globally since 2018. Image: Toyota On the power front, the current hybrid and plug-in hybrid options will prevail, with the verdict still being out as to whether conventional petrol engines will be included. More soon With just over a week left before its reveal, expect Toyota to possibly provide a few more hints over the next few days.
