I'm a 103-year-old influencer — here are my tips for eternal beauty
A care home gran has found unlikely fame as Britain's oldest influencer at age 103 — after becoming an online sensation with her viral makeup tutorials on Tiktok.
Joan Patridge still 'puts on her rouge' every single morning before starting the day at Millcroft Care Home, in Redditch, Worcs.
Staff there decided to start making videos of her daily routine and were left stunned when one clip attracted almost 300,000 views on TikTok.
The retired tram conductor's newfound internet fame has since led to her becoming a brand influencer for a cosmetics company.
And she says her top beauty tips for staying youthful include not smiling to avoid leaving white lines while applying blush, sweeping the skin to blend and not to use too much makeup.
Great-great-grandmother-of-six Joan said: 'I know I'm 103, but I still like my makeup. I do it every morning when I get up.
'I didn't know much about Tiktok. I thought it was a clock.
'I never thought I would have gained so much attention. I was shocked and overwhelmed.'
Joan, originally from Birmingham, gained fans from all over the world after the care home first shared her tutorial on how to apply her staple blush.
Joan explained how she sweeps her rouge across her cheeks, gently blending it into her skin using her powder pad.
She revealed the trick was to avoid smiling when applying the blush as it can leave obvious white lines where the makeup has missed creases.
While she admitted some people like to smile to highlight the apples of their cheeks — she jokes she can't thanks to having 'that many wrinkles that she can't do that'.
But she warned fans to take time when applying the makeup, warning them to not apply too much for fear of bright red cheeks.
Another top-tip was to 'melt' the product in rather than use circular motions to ensure a super-smooth finish.
And while blush is her favourite, Joan's morning makeup ritual isn't complete without applying her eyeliner to make it look 'like she's got some eyelashes'.
Since the footage was uploaded in April, fans have flocked to thank the gran for her top tips — with some even asking for more.
Makeup brand Collection has since sent the pensioner complimentary gift set packed with blush, lip-gloss and beauty pallets.
Joan joked that she is 'too old to work' but says she is thrilled at the opportunity to 'collab' with the firm.
Joan, who is the eldest resident at the home, added: 'It was lovely to share my way of applying rouge because I've done this for many years.
'If I was asked to do some more to help kids then I'd be happy to help them. I can honestly say anyone who we've spoken to has been lovely, it makes their day.
''Beauty to me means natural all over. It's nice to feel good about yourself, no matter how old you are – you can't go without your rouge.'
Joan applies makeup every day even if she's staying in, adding that it 'makes her feel better'.
Joan, who says a nightly brandy is the secret to old age, said: 'Whether I go out or stay in, I put rouge on, I flick it on.
'I put a bit of eyeliner on so I look like I've got some eyelashes. I've always played about with makeup, I used to take it from my sister, we played makeup shops when we were little.
'But you're as young as you feel and age is just a number.
'I wonder why I'm living so long. It's the brandy I think. That's what keeps me happy and smiling.
'Every night before I go to bed I have brandy, I top it up with lemonade to make it sweeter. I have the Three Barrels brand, just a drop.
'If you think well, you'll be well.'
Joan has since appeared on ITV's This Morning and racked up millions of views on social media and hopes to carry on making tutorials for teenagers.
She said: 'It's very nice to be an influencer as they say, but I'm still an old woman.
'I have enjoyed it, but I feel a fool when people curtsey to me. It's everybody who meets me at the minute.
'Going to London was marvelous, and nobody thought an old woman my age would go off and have a good time.'
Joan's granddaughter Nicola Hulme, 50, added: 'Nan really shocks me, she's always up to some mischief.
'When she came to Millcroft we thought we'd have a relaxing time — but no, she decides to go viral on TikTok.
'I'm very proud of my nan, she's precious to me and all of us. She's very unique and I love her a lot. I always say to her to be good – but not too good.
'She shared all the makeup with everyone in her home. This Morning put nan on Facebook and she's had 5 million views on that alone.'
Millcroft's manager, Lyndsay Sard, said: 'The makeup that she was using, somebody had tagged the company and said, look, she's using your makeup.
'And the company then got in touch with us, which was really nice, to say how lovely it was to see Joan doing something like that.
'And they wanted to send the makeup directly to Joan.'
A spokesperson for Collection Cosmetics said: 'We can't wait to see more from Joan and hope the younger generations feel inspired by her effortless style.'
Joan's top 3 makeup tips:
* Don't smile when applying to avoid leaving obvious white lines in creases
* Use a sweeping rather than circular motion to blend
* Less is more — don't use too much blush to avoid bright red cheeks

Will There Be a Season 3 of ‘America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?'
Season 1 of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders first graced the screen in June 2024, and the docuseries became a huge hit for Netflix. The second season debuted this month on June 18, and fans already want more. Here's what we know about season 3 of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Netflix has not officially announced a season 3, but the team has been teasing the audition process for the coming year. They even shared a finalized roster of 36 cheerleaders this June for training camp 2025, and a clip featuring guest judge, Kacey Musgraves—who would be a huge get for a new season. Each season is an examination of the young women auditioning to perform on the cheerleading team for the Dallas Cowboys, following those who make it to training camp as they grow and develop their skills. Season 2 followed both the rookies and the seasoned veterans who will ultimately find their place in one of the 36 spots on the official squad. Training camp is led by DCC director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell, who will most likely be back. Musgraves seems to be involved in some capacity, and some girls will be returning from past seasons. The team also shared their 'rookie roundup.' Fan favorite Dayton might make an appearance, though this fan-made TikTok explains she did not make the final round. If the show is definitely continuing, it seems likely that it would be released next summer, since season 1 and 2 both came out in June, one year apart. This post will be updated.

Man Builds Electric Fence but Dog Outsmarts Him Instantly
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A clever Great Pyrenees has captured the hearts of internet users after outsmarting her owners not once—but twice—in a viral escape story that has earned over 3.2 million views on TikTok. The text layered over the video, posted by Samantha Vicha (@ said that the determined dog initially digging under a backyard fence, prompting a creative intervention from her owners. It added: "My husband spent [three] hours putting electric along the bottom of the fence line so she would stop digging under." Just two days later, the resourceful Pyrenees called Haleesi found an even more impressive escape route: she scaled up and hopped through a small gap above the electric line, completely bypassing the new barrier without breaking a sweat. Two screenshots from the viral video showing Haleesi the dog climbing up and jumping through the gap. Two screenshots from the viral video showing Haleesi the dog climbing up and jumping through the gap. TikTok/@ This escape artistry may come as no surprise to those familiar with the Great Pyrenees. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says these dogs were historically bred to guard livestock in mountainous terrain, often working alone and making decisions independently. While the breed may not always leap to obey commands, early training and socialization can channel that intelligence into loyal companionship. The Great Pyrenees' instinct to roam, guard, and find their own solutions is deeply embedded in their DNA. TikTok Users Share Similar Tales The viral video has resonated widely, with owners of Great Pyrenees and other dogs chiming in with their own stories of canine cunning. "My female chewed my male's electric collar off so they could both escape together," one user posted. Another added: "My Great Pyrenees lives at the local Dollar General and sometimes visits me at my house." Others admired the dog's ingenuity. "I mean it worked! I saw zero digging!" one user commented. Vicha responded: "That's one way to look at it." Another fan simply said: "She's a problem solver." 7 Ways To Keep Your Dog in the Yard Here are some clever ways from the AKC to keep your four-legged Houdini safely in the yard where they belong: 1. Extend Your Fence Raising the fence height isn't your only option. Instead, add a top extension that tilts inward. This visual and physical barrier discourages jumping and climbing. A lean-in is made by attaching farm wire or mesh at an inward angle from the top, forming an awning-like overhang that visually deters climbing. An L-footer works similarly but extends horizontally inward from the top of the fence. Both make it appear as if the fence continues over the yard, confusing and deterring escape attempts. 2. Eliminate Climbing Aids Survey your yard and remove anything near the fence that could serve as a step up. This includes: Firewood stacks Garbage or recycling bins Patio furniture Playground equipment Large rocks or landscaping features 3. Install Coyote Rollers These ingenious devices are long, spinning bars mounted to the fence top. When a dog (or coyote) tries to grab hold, the bar rotates—making it impossible to get traction. Originally designed to keep wildlife out, they are just as effective at keeping pets in. Full kits are available online and include brackets and end caps. 4. Use Landscaping as a Barrier Plant thick shrubs or hedges inside the fence line. Not only do they add beauty and privacy, but they also increase the difficulty of getting close enough to jump. 5. Install a Bottom L-Footer Prevent digging by attaching chicken wire, hardware cloth, or chain-link fencing at the base. Extend it out along the ground inside the yard (in an L-shape). For a neater appearance, you can bury it. Or, leave it exposed and weigh it down with mulch, stones, or planters. 6. Pour a Concrete Footer For persistent diggers, a concrete barrier is the ultimate solution. Pour a strip along the entire fence perimeter and embed the bottom edge of the fence directly into it. This creates a solid, unbreachable base. 7. Block the View Many dogs are triggered by what they see outside the fence. Reduce visual stimulation to help keep them inside. For chain-link fences, thread plastic slats through the mesh. Attach bamboo or reed fencing to any fence type using zip ties—it is affordable and effective. Plant fast-growing vines or climbing shrubs along the fence line (but protect them until they are established). Newsweek is awaiting for @ to provide a comment.

Sofia Richie Grainge dramatically cuts off her hair for a short French bob
Move over, long locks — Sofia Richie Grainge has officially entered the chic world of jaw-grazing bobs, and we're absolutely here for it. The daughter of Lionel Richie stunned fans with a fresh "French bob" debut on Instagram, documenting the dramatic chop right from her luxe South of France getaway at Hotel du Cap‑Eden‑Roc. Quelle surprise! Gone is the era of sleek buns and whisper‑soft waves. Instead, Sofia's new chin‑length 'do is razor‑sharp, subtly textured, and effortlessly Parisian. "She was nervous, but super excited," London hairstylist and the genius behind the look, George Curran shared with Vogue. Like us, friends, fans and followers of Sofia were just as shocked at the debut, taking to the comments section of her post to share their thoughts (which, included praise from none other than Vanessa Hudgens, may I add...). And not only that, but her husband Elliot gave it two enthusiastic thumbs‑up in her TikTok video documenting the chop. "I think it's really really pretty — it's like...'90s New York,'" he said. Get you a hubby who hypes you up like Elliot hypes up Sofia. #CoupleGoals. Far from a subtle trim, Sofia has lost around six inches of hair, making this French bob a dramatic transformation, to say the least. The style itself is a textbook example of a 'clean‑girl' transformation: minimal effort, maximal impact. Think bold, blunt ends with just enough texture to catch the light — and wind — in all the right ways. And with that, you best believe I'll be taking Sofia's IG post as a reference pic to my hairstylist ASAP. Bobs, here we all come! Follow Lia on Instagram.
