The Boston Celtics' top stars could be trade targets this summer
Since the Boston Celtics were eliminated from the 2025 NBA Playoffs, trade talk has swirled among the fan base and the media. Jayson Tatum is set to miss next season due to injury, and the current squad will cost approximately half a billion dollars. Making some moves to retool and shed some salary makes perfect sense, especially if Brad Stevens treats next season as somewhat of a gap year.
Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and Sam Hauser are the three most cited players in trade talks. All three of them could have interested teams around the league, with Holiday reportedly being coveted by multiple Western Conference rosters. However, on Friday, June 13, ESPN's Shams Charania noted how the Celtics will 'one hundred percent' receive trade offers for Derrick White and Jaylen Brown.
"The Celtics prefer not to trade them, from my understanding, but listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything," Charania said on the "Pat McAfee Show." "And I think they're going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they're focused on. They're going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they're going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective."
Charania's reporting quickly led to a significant amount of chatter among Celtics fans and Celtics media. In a June 13 episode of NESN's "Hold My Banner," hosts George Balekji and Travis Thomas shared their thoughts on potentially losing one of White or Brown. They also reacted to some fan-submitted posts from social media, giving their take on fan reactions or trade ideas.

Celtics Make 'No-Brainer' Payton Pritchard Announcement on Friday
Celtics Make 'No-Brainer' Payton Pritchard Announcement on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While the Boston Celtics fell short of their championship aspirations in 2024-25, the team had some notable bright spots shine throughout this past year's NBA campaign. Advertisement Fifth-year Celtics guard Payton Pritchard put together the best season of his young NBA career, averaging a career-high 14.3 points on 47.2% shooting from the field and 40.7% shooting from behind the three-point arc. Pritchard accomplished these impressive statistics through 77 games off the bench in 2024-25. As such, he was recognized with the NBA's coveted Sixth Man of the Year trophy earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, Pritchard was also recognized as the Celtics' Sixth Man of the Year winner in an announcement on Friday. "The biggest no-brainer of our Awards Series: our Sixth Man of the Year," the team wrote on X. This Sixth Man of the Year trophy marks Pritchard's second honor of the Celtics' postseason award series. The former No. 26 pick was also recognized as the team's Most Improved Player. Advertisement The Celtics still have one more postseason award to announce: the Sharpshooter of the Year. Pritchard is certainly a candidate for this award as well as he boasted the team's best three-point percentage of any player averaging at least one attempt per game. Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard (11).Bob DeChiara-Imagn Images The Celtics' 2024-25 season came to an end with a second-round playoff loss the the New York Knicks. In Game 4, Boston superstar Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles tendon tear. With Tatum out for the majority of the 2025-26 season, Pritchard will likely serve an even more integral role in the Celtics' upcoming NBA campaign. NFL Star Lamar Jackson Sends 5-Word Message to Jayson Tatum
NFL Star Lamar Jackson Sends 5-Word Message to Jayson Tatum originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A little over one month ago, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles injury near the end of the team's Game 4 loss to the New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. While his timeline is still not fully clear, the expectation is that the Duke alum will miss all of next season. Advertisement As one of the top stars in the NBA, Tatum's injury is tough for the league and for the Celtics. However, the 27-year-old is seemingly still keeping his head eye in the midst of support from some of the greatest athletes in the world today. This includes Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who recently sent a message to the Celtics star. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (0).© Bob DeChiara-Imagn Images While recovering from an Achilles injury is never easy, there are reasons to believe Tatum will be able to bounce back, especially given his age. This is the hope for not just the Celtics organization or the city of Boston, but also for the Ravens star as well, who sent a five-word message to Tatum: 'Wishing you 100% recovery Champ!' With their star player likely out for next season, in addition to the likely roster turnover they will have this summer as they look to gain financial flexibility, the Celtics will be in a strange spot next year. After being legitimate title favorites over the last few seasons, they will most likely not be as dominant next season and may have a re-tooling year. Advertisement Hopefully for the Celtics, Tatum can come back from his injury and return to his pre-injury form. Until then, however, Boston will have to make do without their star player and look to shock the basketball world in 2026. Doc Rivers' Steph Curry Message After Giannis Antetokounmpo News
Doc Rivers' Steph Curry Message After Giannis Antetokounmpo News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. NBA trade chatter around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo intensified following another first-round exit for the Milwaukee Bucks against the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo followed up his MVP-caliber season with another impressive performance in the series against the Pacers, averaging 33.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. Advertisement However, the two time-MVP's standout performance—highlighted by a 30/20/13 triple-double in Game 5—was not enough to propel Milwaukee past Indiana, as his team fell short in a 4-1 defeat. The Bucks' disappointing exit for the third straight year raised questions about the team's supporting cast and trajectory, and rumors began to grow about whether Antetokounmpo might seek a fresh start elsewhere, with the most recent reports linking him to the Toronto Raptors (via Doug Smith of the Toronto Star). Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34).Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images Despite the growing rumors that Toronto could make a serious push for Antetokounmpo, the Bucks star recently made it clear he plans on returning to Milwaukee (h/t Eurohoops). Advertisement Following this news, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers addressed these speculations publicly during an appearance on the Bill Simmons Podcast, calling the trade rumors "ridiculous." The NBA Championship head coach also made a pointed analogy about Antetokounmpo's intentions to stay in Milwaukee, naming Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry. 'But with certain guys, I don't think Steph Curry would ever leave Golden State ever and I'm hoping obviously Giannis feels the same way," he said. "That's the way he's been so far and it's been great. It's been awesome.' Steph Curry's long-term tenure in Golden State is well-documented. Despite setbacks, he's remained steadfast, building a legacy that has culminated in four NBA Championships. Rivers draws that parallel, suggesting Antetokounmpo shares that DNA and will not opt to leave—despite external pressures. Advertisement Antetokounmpo, for his part, has repeatedly reaffirmed his loyalty. With a contract stretching to 2027-28 and no formal trade request, signs point to Antetokounmpo returning for another season with the Bucks.
