Pharma staff among eight held for stealing over Rs 2 crore worth Semaglutide powder at Dr Reddy's Lab in Andra Pradesh's Srikakulam
SRIKAKULAM: The JR Puram police in Srikakulam district have apprehended a gang of eight individuals, which includes employees of a pharma company, in connection with the theft of around 450 gms of Semaglutide powder, an anti-diabetic medicine, valued at over Rs two crore from Dr Reddy's Laboratories warehouse situated at Pydibheemavaram in the district.

The arrested persons have been identified as Dronadulu Suresh (31), a chemist at Dr Reddy's Lab, Gajula Venkata Raghavendra (33), warehouse team member at Dr Reddy's Lab, N Appala Naidu (28), a chemist, Gollapalli Kantarao (35), a chemist, Guntaka Suresh, Reddy (40), a chemist at production section MSN Pharma company in Hyderabad, Ajmeera Tirupathi (32), a research analytical at Life scan Pharma Company in Hyderabad, Kalluri Balakrishna, (33) and B Naveen Kumar 33)
Srikakulam district police Chief KV Maheswara Reddy stated that Semaglutide medicine was produced at Dr Reddy's Lab production unit and subsequently stored in the freezer room of the FG warehouse on February 17, 2025.
Staff members later discovered that the medicine had been stolen from the freezer room on February 23, 2025.
Similarly, during the audit, staff observed that 3.38 kgs of Palladium Acetate, valued at over Rs60 lakh and stored at the warehouse within the production unit of Dr Reddy's Lab, had been stolen in May this year.
The police said Semaglutide is an anti-diabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management.
It is a peptide similar to the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), modified with a side chain.It can be administered by subcutaneous injection or taken orally.
Palladium acetate, or palladium(II) acetate, is a chemical compound.It is a red-brown solid and is widely used as a catalyst in various organic reactions, particularly crosscoupling reactions like Suzuki and Heck reaction
Based on the complaint, the police have formed three special teams to solve the grave offences. The JR Puram police inspector M Avatharam along with his team sub-inspector S Chiranjeevi and G Laxman Rao investigated the case in multiple angles and identified the culprits and nabbed the accused and recovered around 440 gms of stolen Semaglutide powder and also around 460 gms of fake Semaglutide powder from them.
Guntaka Suresh, Reddy (40), a chemist at production section MSN Pharma Company in Hyderabad was the receiver of the stolen chemicals.

Minor girl escapes kidnap by jumping off bike in traffic jam
Indore: A minor girl, who was being kidnapped by three bike-borne youths from a crowded market in Bori area of Alirajpur, escaped by jumping off the two-wheeler during heavy traffic jam. Man falls into polluted Buddha Nullah at Ludhiana's Tibba Road and body not recovered yet.
Ludhiana: A day of back-to-back tragedy unfolded in the city as the Buddha Nullah claimed the lives of two people — a 10-year-old boy and, hours later, a 35-year-old man whose body remains missing. The latest victim, Ram Krishan, a scrap dealer and resident of Tibba Road, reportedly fell into the polluted drain around 8.30pm on Friday while sitting on a bridge during a power outage. His wife, Om Wati, said he had returned home in an inebriated state and was sitting on the bridge with their two children nearby when the incident occurred. Om Wati told police: "He gave me Rs 50 to buy vegetables for dinner and sat outside. A few minutes later, our daughter came running and said he had fallen in." With no one nearby to help, Om Wati ran to a local fish market to seek assistance. Locals attempted a rescue but were unsuccessful. Divers deployed on Saturday were also unable to recover the body. Court order seeking FIR in EDC land fraud matter stayed
Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa stayed the order of a North Goa court directing the anti-corruption branch (ACB) of the directorate of vigilance to register a first information report (FIR) in connection with allegations of fraud related to land allotment at EDC, Patto. Initially, the trial court had directed the CBI to register the FIR but later assigned the task to the ACB. S Karpe, additional public prosecutor said that the order passed by the sessions court judge at Panaji in the criminal case did not take into consideration the consent as contemplated under Section 17(A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. According to the counsel, there was no reason given by the trial court for arriving at the conclusion that the FIR needs to be registered within 24 hours in accordance with the complaint. Subsequently, an application was filed for an extension of time, which was granted by the sessions court on June 19, extending the same by 48 hours. 'Issue notice to the respondents, returnable on July 11, 2025. Notice be issued by all the available modes of service. In the meantime, the effect and operation of the order dated June 9, 2025, shall be stayed till the next date,' Justice Nivedita Mehta observed. Activists had moved the court alleging that govt property was allotted to EDC to house certain offices, but they allegedly leased and sold land without obtaining permission from the govt, causing a loss of Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer. Even if permission was obtained, they ought to have deposited 50% of the amount with the govt or the EDC, which has not been done, the activists had alleged. 'In the present case, the FIR ought to have been registered. There is nothing exceptional in the present case that warrants a delay in the registration of an FIR on the ground of a preliminary inquiry. Even if there were exceptional circumstances in the case, any preliminary inquiry could not have, under any circumstances, exceeded two days,' the sessions court Judge Irshad Agha had stated. 'In the present case, the FIR ought to have been registered and a preliminary inquiry ought to have been carried out by the investigating agency. However, there is enough material to directly register the FIR,' the judge had said.
