Three teenagers have appeared in court accused of murdering a 14-year-old as he was on his way to play football with his brother and friends.
Ibrahima Seck died in hospital after he was attacked outside the Fairway Inn in New Moston, Greater Manchester, at about 5pm on Sunday.
Magistrates heard he was on his way to play football at a nearby park when an alleged altercation took place. He was killed by a single stab wound to the chest.
Three boys - two aged 14 and the other 16 - appeared at Manchester magistrates court charged with murder and possessing a bladed article.
Each boy had members of their family in court as the proceedings took place. They were remanded in custody and are all due to appear again at Manchester Crown Court tomorrow (Thurs). The three teenagers cannot be named for legal reasons due to their age.
Police said a 37-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl - both arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender - had been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Det Ch Insp Tony Platten, of the force's major incident team, said: 'The last 48 hours has seen an extensive amount of police work, which has seen multiple officers working to help get the answers Ibrahima's family deserve.
'Now that we have secured three charges, a new level of proceedings is active, and we will continue to work on our investigation as this progresses.
'Ibrahima's family remain at the forefront of our minds and we will be remaining in close contact with them throughout the process.'
Following his death, Ibrahima's parents paid tribute to him as a 'well-liked young boy' who was "funny, caring and hard-working". They said; 'He was so smiley and always made everybody laugh.'
His father left flowers at the scene of the attack on Monday while his mother had to be held up by loved ones while his father showed reporters an image of his son on his mobile phone and repeated 'he's been killed' .
His headteacher Louise Hodson, of Greater Manchester Independent School, said Ibrahima's infectious energy 'lit up every room' and his death had left a 'huge hole' in the school community.
She said Ibrahima had a 100% attendance rate, was doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award and loved drama lessons at the school.
She said: 'Ibrahima was a lively, intelligent and engaging young man whose presence lit up every room. Known for his warm, chatty nature, his infectious energy and sense of humour, brought joy to students and staff alike.'
After he was stabbed, Ibrahima reportedly ran to a house on nearby Nevin Road. Officers have continued to appeal for doorbell or dashcam footage and eye-witness accounts from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Enough is enough."She founded the charity Mero's World Foundation after her son's death, and successfully pushed for the installation of more than 60 bleed kits across Greater Manchester. The kits are designed to stem severe bleeding from wounds. Ms Brown said she has spoken to a headteacher of a primary school in New Moston to arrange a talk with pupils about knife crime later this month."I feel it is very important to reach primary schools before the children transition to high school - normally I never get a reply to my emails to primary schools so I am grateful to this headteacher," she added. Boys accused of murdering teen on his way to football appears in court
Three boys, two aged 14 and one aged 16, appeared at Manchester Youth Court. A 14-year-old schoolboy was stabbed to death whilst on his way to play football in a park with friends, a court has heard. Three boys, two aged 14 and one aged 16, appeared at Manchester Youth Court, sitting at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court, on Wednesday accused of the murder of Ibrahima Seck - described by his family as a 'funny, caring and hardworking' boy. The youngster died from a single stab wound having been allegedly attacked by the youths in New Moston, north Manchester, at around 5pm on Sunday, The Manchester Evening News reports. He ran to a nearby house but despite the efforts of emergency services and staff from an air ambulance, he was pronounced dead in hospital less than an hour later, the court heard. None of the accused can be identified because they are aged under 18. They are all also accused of possession of a bladed article. Two of the accused, one aged 14 and the 16-year-old, were first brought into the dock at the court for brief hearings on Wednesday morning. Both spoke to give their names and addresses, and the younger boy, wearing a grey tracksuit, had his aunt and uncle in court sat alongside lawyers. The older boy, who had his mother and a social worker in court, wore a blue tracksuit. Rebecca Macauley-Addison, prosecuting, gave a brief outline of the charges to magistrates, telling the court Ibrahima was on his way to play football in a local park in New Moston when he was stabbed. The prosecutor said a post-mortem examination had concluded the cause of death to be a single stab wound and Ibrahima was pronounced dead just under an hour after the stabbing.
