Grieving mum 'felt pain' of stab victim Ibrahima Seck's parents

A mother whose 16-year-old son was fatally stabbed said she had tried to console the "broken" parents of a teenager who was killed in Greater Manchester earlier this Brown, whose son Rhamero West was murdered on his way to school in Old Trafford in 2021, attended a march against knife crime following the death of 14-year-old Ibrahima Seck in New Moston on 8 Brown said she came face-to-face with Ibrahima's parents at the "emotional but powerful" gathering."I was just staring at his mum and she is broken, and it just took me back to when I first heard Rhamero had been stabbed, I felt her pain," she said. Three boys, two aged 14, the other 16, have been charged with Ibrahima's murder and possession of a bladed article. Ms Brown told BBC Radio Manchester: "I spoke to his dad – I held his hand and said 'I know how you are feeling'."He looked at me right in the eye and I said 'I have lost my son too'. Then we just hugged each other." The mum turned knife crime campaigner said the march was "a brilliant idea" and communities affected by knife crime were stronger together. She said: "We need more of this to tackle knife crime, everyone is being affected by knife crime. When is it going to stop? Enough is enough."She founded the charity Mero's World Foundation after her son's death, and successfully pushed for the installation of more than 60 bleed kits across Greater Manchester. The kits are designed to stem severe bleeding from wounds. Ms Brown said she has spoken to a headteacher of a primary school in New Moston to arrange a talk with pupils about knife crime later this month."I feel it is very important to reach primary schools before the children transition to high school - normally I never get a reply to my emails to primary schools so I am grateful to this headteacher," she added. March against knife crime held after boy's death

About 1,000 people took part in a march against knife crime following the fatal stabbing of a teenager who was on his way to play football. Ibrahima Seck,14, had been walking with his brothers and friends to a park in New Moston, Manchester, when he was attacked on 8 June. His parents, who previously said he was "funny, caring, and hardworking", led the march near where he was stabbed on Broadway to mark a week since his death. Karen Birch, who worked with Ibrahima at his school and helped organise the event, told BBC North West Tonight the community was "devastated and in tears". Ms Birch said: "We are holding this in memory of him and of all the other youths in the area who have died through knife crime. "We can't keep putting a plaster over this and thinking that it's not happening. We have to stop it and that starts at home, it starts with parenting, it starts in schools. "We need basic skills bringing back into our classroom – what is right, what is wrong." Marchers gathered at the nearby home of a couple who had tried to save the injured Ibrahima after he asked them for help. The teenager's father led the crowd in chants of "I don't want to die" after it was reported that his son made the remark to the couple. Ibrahima had a 100% school attendance rate and had been doing the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, according to his head teacher at Greater Manchester Independent School, who described him as a "lively, intelligent and engaging young man whose presence lit up every room". Two 14-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to their ages, have been charged with his murder and possession of a bladed article. They will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday. Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
