"We heard a huge bang": Roof obliterated as fire ravages house with five rushed to hospital
Residents told of the moment they heard a 'huge bang' after a fire ravaged a home in Bury on Sunday evening (June 22).
The roof of one home on Sandgate Road was left scorched and exposed after the blaze, which saw five people rushed to hospital from the scene at around 5pm.
Emergency services, including police, fire crews and paramedics, were scrambled to the residential street following reports of the blaze at a 'domestic property.' Five people were assessed at the scene before being taken to hospital. The full extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Pictures from the scene showed the road taped off with multiple fire engines in attendance, along with police vans. Officers were stationed at either end of the cordon as fire crews were seen entering and conducting investigations at the home.
One family who live nearby said they heard a 'huge bang' that they described to being 'like massive fireworks going off' shortly before 5pm. Moments later they saw smoke filling the air and the roof of the house obliterated.
'We just heard this huge bang," they said. "We can see it from our window. It was like massive fireworks going off.
"Then we saw all the smoke and the fire brigade before we knew it. It looks like it spread from the house next door."
The roof of the home was exposed and smoking on Sunday evening, with the attic of the property seeming to have been the worst hit by the blaze. It's cause has not been confirmed.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: 'At just before 5pm today (Sunday 22 June) fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a domestic property on Sandgate Road, Whitefield.
'Six fire engines from Manchester Central, Whitefield, Heywood, Salford, Broughton and Agecroft quickly attended the incident. Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
'Five people were assessed at the scene and then conveyed to hospital by North West Ambulance Service. Crews remain in attendance.'

‘Too much to count': Monroe man in custody after shooting inside apartment, police standoff
A Monroe man is in police custody following a standoff on Saturday night. Police responded to Nottingham Apartments on Castleberry Court, off Highway 74 in Monroe, around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving calls about a man firing shots from inside a second-floor apartment. But neighbors did tell Counts that Lockhart often sat on his balcony and seemingly talked to himself. Lockhart was taken into police custody and taken to a nearby hospital for a mental health evaluation. Upon release from the hospital, police say Lockhart will face criminal charges. One in seven people ‘have lost money to fraud in past year'
One in seven people say they have lost money to fraud in the past year, according to a survey. Some 14% of people surveyed in February said they had lost money to fraud in the past 12 months, financial insights company TransUnion found. Half (50%) said that a fraud attempt had been made against them in the past three months. The 'consumer pulse' survey also found that a significant proportion of people favour account security processes over ease of access, with over three-quarters (78%) saying they do not want access to their accounts without being explicitly authenticated first. Nearly half (49%) of people said they do not mind being authenticated again after an initial login, for example, when making a payment or changing a password. Chad Reimers, general manager of fraud and identity at TransUnion in the UK said: 'Quick and seamless journeys have become the norm. 'However, consumers are increasingly demanding trust as part of their interactions with digital channels. 'There are increasing demands from consumers to ensure security and authentication – and this spans across sectors, from financial services, to gaming, to online dating.' TransUnion commissioned Dynata to carry out the survey among 1,000 people aged 18 or over across the UK. As well as reporting incidents to the police, people who are concerned that they may have fallen victim to fraud should tell their bank or payments provider as soon as they can. 'This may help the provider to claw the money back and could also help to prevent further fraud attempts on the account. Many banks have signed up to the 159 service – a memorable number that people can call if they have received contact that they suspect to be fraudulent.
