RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) – A cat died from smoke inhalation during a house fire in Ripon on Thursday morning, with the home suffering significant damage. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office reported that dispatch received a call at 10:24 a.m. regarding smoke at a home located at W13819 Skyline Circle, with black smoke reportedly filling the interior. The preliminary investigation indicated an electrical fire started in a workshop after a tool reportedly failed while plugged in. The homeowners were not home; however, a cat inside died from smoke inhalation, while other pets were safely rescued. The rest of the house was significantly damaged by smoke and soot and has been deemed uninhabitable. IPOH, June 20 — An 84-year-old woman died in a fire at a two-storey house in Jalan Raja Abdullah, Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan here, last night. Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, in a statement, said the police were alerted about the house fire at 9.19pm. He said initial investigations found the house occupied by six family members. 'An 83-year-old man was rescued and sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), Ipoh, for treatment, while an 84-year-old woman died at the scene. 'Four other family members, aged between 18 and 49, were also rescued and did not suffer any injuries,' he said. Abang Zainal Abidin said further investigations were being conducted to determine the cause of the fire and urged those with information on the incident to contact the Ipoh District Control Centre (DCC) at 05-2542222. — Bernama

Around 2:20 p.m. on June 11, police responded to a house fire in the area of Primrose Court and Fairport Road, according to a Thursday release from Durham police. A 69-year-old woman was located dead inside the residence. Following a post-mortem, Durham police's homicide unit took over the investigation. Police now say the death was the Durham region's third homicide of 2025. On Tuesday, a 34-year-old Pickering woman was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder, police say. She was held for a bail hearing. Police say they have identified another suspect, who remains outstanding, in the ongoing investigation. Investigators say they believe the incident was isolated and there is no threat to public safety. Anyone with more information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

Tributes are being paid to a devoted partner who died in a Roscommon house fire overnight. The man who has been named locally as Des Deegan (72) died in a fire at a house in The Oaks housing estate, Frenchpark, Co Roscommon. Advertisement Emergency services were called to the house in an estate shortly before 7pm on Wednesday evening Locals said that Mr Deegan who was originally from Dublin was a devoted partner to Alice Hetherton (63). The couple had lived at French Park for the past 25 years having met in London and lived in Kerry for a number of years previously. Tragically Ms Hetherton suffered a serious bleed on the brain and an aneurysm in 2023 and as a result was admitted to a nursing home in the area in July 2024. Advertisement Mr Deegan had launched a campaign locally to adapt the house and bring her home and had set up a Go-fundme page in April of this year. Locals say he had spoken on local radio about his campaign on a number of occasions. Speaking at the time he said'' I've started this fundraiser on behalf of my partner Alice Hetherton, formerly of Oldcastle Co Meath. "Alice is 63 years old, she has worked all her life caring for others as a care worker in hospitals and nursing homes across the UK and Ireland. "Ironically Alice finds herself now in need of the support she has given to others''. To date the fundraiser has raised almost €7,000. In a statement gardaí said Fire services extinguished the blaze and the body of a man was recovered. His remains were removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. The scene remains sealed off for a technical examination. It is unclear what caused the fire, with witnesses reporting an explosion just before the blaze broke out. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
